Former President Donald Trump called for legislation that would allow the executive branch to call for the National Guard to be deployed in areas where “there is a true and total breakdown of law and order, where citizens’ most basic rights are violated.” “The federal government can and should send the National Guard to restore order and secure the peace without having to wait for the approval of some governor that thinks it’s politically incorrect to call them in,” Trump’s said during his speech at the America First Policy Institute’s summit in Washington, DC on Tuesday. I'm not sure I like this idea. There would have to be some checks and balances. If poopy pants had this power he surely would abuse it. Maybe when it's in dispute it should immediately go to SCOTUS?

Conservatives typically call for less federal government intervention. Trump might use such power sparingly but his future presidency might give way to an AOC like character or worse. This idea is antithetical to federalism, regardless of whether or not the power would be abused.

We either insist on law and order or go back to sleep and let the criminals have anything they want. That is how it is in California. Newsome lets criminals steal anything they want from any store they want anytime they want and no one does anything about it.

JFK did it in1963 for civil rights. Maybe Trump should have sent them into Seattle for the same reason that people's basic civil rights were being violated by commies and the local government had a total breakdown of law and order.

The left takes advantage of our laws and government authority all the time. If our side doesn't start doing something with the laws that exist, we'll keep losing our country to the outright lawlessness of the left.

I am not advocating for the use of our national guard to keep the peace, but we all know that democrat governors will not enforce law and order so what are the people supposed to do that live in those states. These governors also will not ask for help from the President. We have seen them decline any help when rioters were burning down their cities. I know the proper solution is to vote democrats out of office but that is very difficult to do in cities where there is a large segment of democrat supporters in addition to who knows how much voter fraud. As easy as it is to tell the people caught in this mess to just move, that is not as easy as it is said. It’s expensive and people have ties to where they living going back decades. It’s not easy just to pack up and leave. So what do we do? Let these people continue to be victims of an uncaring political party? Can we petition our state governments to call them in? We petition them for recalls. Why not be able to petition the governors to call for help where crime has gotten out of hand? Set a number and if the will of the people exceeds that, then the Governor must call in the national guard to protect innocent citizens caught in a desperate situation. Just throwing this out. People need help when they are being assaulted by criminals and ignored by their elected officials.

House Democrats on Wednesday delayed a plan to fund the police amid infighting before midterm elections. Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was unable to win enough support to fund police and has instead pushed the much needed funding off until the House returns after its August recess, Punchbowl News reported. Establishment Democrats, such as Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), had been trying to pass the police funding for months to shore up their political vulnerabilities head of the election. But far-left Democrats, led by Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), have opposed the funding of police.

Sen. Joe Manchin III has once again changed his position on a budget reconciliation package, announcing Wednesday that he and Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer have agreed to legislation that would include climate and tax provisions that two weeks ago he was not ready to support. The duo said in a joint statement that they'd "finalized legislative text" that would lower deficits by $300 billion over a decade, devote $369.8 billion to clean energy and climate change programs and extend expanded subsidies to purchase health insurance on the 2010 health care law's exchanges for three years. The measure would preserve the prescription drug pricing deal Manchin and Schumer had previously

Former President Donald Trump should announce his election bid for 2024 on the Tuesday after Labor Day. Here’s why. Trump is an asset—and not, as beltway insiders like to assert—a liability on the campaign trail, especially in key Senate and gubernatorial races. Donald Trump revitalized a crumbling, corporatist Republican Party and began making it his own America First party, which reinvigorated it. He turned it into a party that welcomed the working class, Hispanics, black Americans, and Asian Americans. Now these groups are voting red, or at least leaving the Democratic Party, in staggering numbers;

For about 70 years, the definition of a recession has been simple: Two straight quarters of negative GDP growth. Everyone who has taken an Economics 101 class was taught the same thing, and until recently, there has been no argument on the matter. In fact, the only time in modern history where two-straight quarters of negative growth didn’t define a recession was at the beginning of George W. Bush’s term. In that case, a single quarter of negative growth was used as the deciding point. (Tweet)

Don’t go, Boss! That’s my strong advice to President Trump as he prepares to deliver a speech in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday at his alleged “think tank,” the America First Policy Institute (AFPI). Yes, it is important for President Trump to have a well-credentialed stable of policy experts capable of both building a 2024 platform and finding solid MAGA talent to populate a new Trump Administration. But the AFPI Trojan Horse—whose leadership is now bragging about how it will staff Trump’s “shadow cabinet”—is decidedly not that.

Speaking virtually to attendees at the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives conference in Orlando, Florida, Biden said that Republicans who refused to ban so-called “weapons of war” are not telling the truth when they claim to support law enforcement. In particular, Biden called out Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott (R-FL) for refusing to support Democrats’ gun control efforts. “Being a cop today is a hell of a lot harder than it’s ever been,” Biden said during his speech.

I recently wrote a column about why I believed Trump should not run in 2024. I was wrong. I allowed my distaste for Trump’s personality to override his virtues, which are considerable. Some people want Trump without his vices. I was among them -- until yesterday, when I watched and listened to Tom Klingenstein’s speech titled “Trump’s virtues.” It was masterful and shamed me that I did not make the distinction between Trump's character and his virtues, the former being deeply flawed, the latter being almost perfect. I need to man up in my defense of the former President's virtues.
