Mount Pleasant - U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace, a freshman South Carolina Republican who drew Donald Trump’s ire after openly criticizing the former president in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol attack, fended off a fierce primary challenge from Katie Arrington, surviving Trump’s public political crusade against her. Arrington, a Summerville Republican who jumped into the congressional contest in early February, conceded to Mace shortly after 11 p.m. June 14 at about the same time Mace was on-stage delivering a victory speech. Arrington endorsed Mace as she looks toward the general election, agreeing Mace won the race “fair and square,” prompting some of her supporters

Stark contrast from a South Carolina who seceded from a government they didn’t like. Half their voters were conned into supporting a tyrannical establishment government. Don’t let the establishment drive a wedge in between MAGA voters! We have to stick together for once!

Received Mace campaign mailers, text messages 5-1 over Arrington, who was drastically overspent by Mace. While is was an uphill battle, honestly, Arrington was not a great candidate. Anything “Citadel” in SC is sacred and means a lot to the casual voter despite the fact that Mace eschewed a military career after graduation. Mace is another RINO who enjoys the “club” in DC. I’ve spoken directly to her and she’s not very bright. Conservatives just need a better candidate.

I voted for Arrington yesterday but am not surprised by Mace’s victory. Three things - name recognition and the fact that her district is getting more blue all the time with the influx of people from NY and NJ. And open primaries. How many demonrats crossed over and voted for the candidate who was NOT endorsed by PDT? I don’t know what I’m going to do in November. I suppose that she’s better than a demonrat, but not much.

The Land of Lindsay continues to disappoint. It's such a great place to live and visit, why can't the politics go in the right direction? Speaking from Pennsylvania where we have the same problem with democrats and RINOs always rising to the top like pond scum.

FTA: "Mace did not join the 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump, nor did she join the 35 Republicans who voted for a bipartisan commission to investigate what happened on Jan. 6." Mace's sin was apparently to minimize FPDT's future in the Republican Party. I suspect there are many who agree with her, Republicans and independents. They support the movement, not necessarily the man. It's more than mean tweets...

Can't win them all. We'll just have to hold our nose on this one. I'm assuming that the Democrat is even worse, although if the "Red Wave" is strong enough, maybe we can sacrifice this seat for 2 years.

Republicans are actively courting Hispanic voters in key competitive House districts, hoping to peel away voters from Democrats repeating their historical pattern of investing little and late in reaching out to Latinos. The GOP’s approach is a danger to Democrats, as Hispanic voters are likely to play a key role in at least a dozen districts in the November midterm elections. “It couldn’t be a starker contrast between Republicans and Democrats as we engage and do outreach to minority voters, and specifically the Hispanic community,” said Danielle Alvarez, communications director for the GOP.

Joe Manchin on Thursday rejected Senate Democrats’ proposed energy and climate investments, as well as their goals of increasing taxes on the wealthy and large corporations, according to a Democrat briefed on the discussions. Instead the West Virginia senator said “unequivocally” during a meeting with Majority Leader Chuck Schumer that he will only support reducing drug prices and a two-year extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies as components of a party-line bill designed to evade a filibuster, the person said. Manchin’s rejection at the meeting blew up weeks of discussions over a larger legislative package. It leaves a slim health-care focused bill as the only option

In a Wednesday tweet, the Associated Press Stylebook reiterated guidance advising journalists to refrain from using the terms “assault weapon” and “assault rifle,” which they call “highly politicized.” “The preferred term for a rifle that fires one bullet each time the trigger is pulled, and automatically reloads for a subsequent shot, is a semi-automatic rifle. An automatic rifle continuously fires rounds if the trigger is depressed and until its ammunition is exhausted,” reads a July 2022 style tip, recommending their usage over more general references to “assault” weaponry. According to the Stylebook, which is adhered to by newsrooms across the country,

We need to shut them down here in Massachusetts and we need to shut them down all around the country.
