While the Good Lord makes the final decision on these things, there are sure a lot of despots, domestic and international, who you would have thunk would have, in the words of the late, great, El Rushbo, "assumed room temperature." I heard Mike Pompeo the other day saying that he's heard that story (name the despot) so many times that he doesn't think we should be making any policy on that outcome. Anyway, there are some people that Heaven doesn't want and the Devil is worried that they'd show up and take over.

Nevertheless, depending on what form of cancer Putie has and what treatment lies ahead for the guy, his remaining time on this earth won't be particularly pleasant. Meanwhile, so bombing the stuffing out of Ukraine and killing 4,000 Ukrainians achieves martyrdom in his view?

Mofongo post 6... I have watched video after video of the interaction of Putin and President Trump. It challenged my belief that Russia and Putin are all bad. I also have observed that it is the United States that tends to send our precious military around the world to "take out terrorist leaders." A young contractor came to work on a renovation project. When asked about his accent, he said he and his family moved here from Russia. He has some friends left in Russia. I asked if he had kept in touch with his friends about what is happening there. He said, "No. That would be too dangerous." I asked about Putin being photographed in church. He said that is propaganda. He appeared so uncomfortable answering my questions, I stopped asking anything more... Fact: Russia/USSR have fought on our side in past World Wars. Conclusion, I withhold my opinions about "real" news for now.

Roger Scruton was a British philosopher who spent his life defending conservative values. Sir Roger, as he was after his knighthood in 2016, saw the antagonist culture as a rejection of inherited values, including gender distinctions, capitalism, patriotism, religious faith, and everyday morality such as honesty and prohibitions against theft, adultery, and other evils. No one understood antagonism better, on a theoretical level, than Scruton, and he wrote with passion and clarity. For anyone wishing to understand the culture of antagonism, Scruton's books, including The Meaning of Conservatism, The Aesthetics of Music, and How to Be a Conservative, are a good place to start.

With the jury out in the trial of former 2016 Clinton campaign counsel Michael Sussmann, the usual odds-takers appeared on cable news, rating the chances of a conviction. Despite the seemingly overwhelming evidence against Sussmann, the jury’s makeup seems strikingly favorable for the defense. One verdict, however, appears to need little deliberation. It concerns the Department of Justice, and particularly the FBI. The trial confirmed what many have long alleged about how top officials eagerly accepted any Russia collusion claim involving former President Trump’s 2016 campaign.
