A tsunami has struck the West Coast of the United States after a massive undersea volcanic eruption triggered a 7.4 magnitude earthquake near Tonga. 'A tsunami is occurring. Remember - the first wave may not be the largest. Move away from the shore and head to high ground,' the National Weather Service said in a flash bulletin on Saturday. 'If you are located in this coastal area, move off the beach and out of harbors and marinas. Do not go to the coast to watch the tsunami. Be alert to instructions from your local emergency officials,' the agency warned.

Gosh, could California be washed away? No great loss and apologies to my conservative friends there.

If a four foot wave is causing you some problems, perhaps you live a good bit too close to the ocean. Just sayin......

People often think that tsunamis are gigantic lateral walls of water but they can be relatively shallow waves that just keep coming. Four feet of water doesn’t seem like a lot at a shore but a four foot surge can knock anyone over and if it is still rolling a mile inland (carrying cars, trees, building material and people) there is the problem. I have friends and family members who are dedicated surfers and they are a different and fearless breed.

I saw video from Marina del Rey earlier and the surf was so low, not anywhere near the winter storm surf that surfers love. In years past I knew men who took long wooden Hawaiian boards out to the end of Point Loma in San Diego to surf the storm surf…
They know nothing of this in the UK.

'Gosh, I sure hope California is wiped out and 36m people die because I disagree with the politics of 40% of them"
---said the fake conservatives who don't care about human life
Fortunately, 4 foot waves won't do anything but flood out a few low lying beach front homes.

Re #10, lighten up yourself. Appears you totally misunderstood me. I’m a native Californian who grew up on the beaches and lived near them for long (not long enough) periods of my life. San Diego (Point Loma), Huntington Beach, Hermosa, Santa Monica, Santa Barbara… Love the surfers…and I liked your reply. Some of the others, not so much. Relax.

Why should CA residents stay out of the water? They've already been proven stupid by keeping to put demonrats in office.

When will we stop reacting to our government's instruction to be very afraid?
I no longer value any tornado or hurricane warnings, because they have cried wolf so many times.
