I&I/TIPP Poll: Finally, Something Dem
And GOP Voters Agree On — Don’t Kill
The Filibuster

Original Article

Senate Democrats recently threatened to eliminate the filibuster if their “Build Back Better” and “For The People” bills weren’t passed. Such a strategy, however, holds serious political dangers for elected Democrats: A bipartisan majority of both Republicans and Democrats support keeping the filibuster, a new I&I/TIPP Poll shows. Responding to recent events, the monthly I&I/TIPP Poll, posted also at TIPPInsights, asked the following question: As you may be aware, the filibuster is a Senate procedure that has been used to prevent the Senate from passing controversial legislation, even if a simple majority of 51 senators support it.

Power by a simply majority is a tyranny. The use of a simple majority states, you no longer have a majority. Strictly partisan only one opinion allowed. This is not freedom of, by, and for, the people.

I don't believe even the average Democrats wanted to end the filibuster. All of that idiocy was coming from Chuck "the Schmuck" Schumer.

I believe many dim Senators see what harelip Reid did with simple majority vote for judges and how it came back to bite them so many times. They know they are likely to be a minority again and will need the option but they are afraid to stand up to schmuck schumer who controls the money and legislation. They are secretly praying Manchin stands fast and prevails.

Stagflation Stages A Comeback 10 replies

Joe Biden got his start in politics in the 1970s and appears determined to recreate the world as it existed back then. Misguided federal policies have pushed energy prices to punishingly high levels. Americans are struggling with inflation. Radical Muslims are holding American citizens hostage in the Middle East. Our adversaries, including Russia, are on the march. Even bell bottoms are making a comeback. And, now, the pièce de résistance of the 1970s is also making a comeback: stagflation. Stagflation. It’s a term that most young people and plenty of not-so-young people have probably never heard before

Fast-Food Minimum Wage Is Already An Economic Disaster

California Democrats who pushed through the state’s punitive new minimum wage must be feeling mighty proud about now. Not only are fast-food joints closing or replacing low-end employees with overseas workers and robots, now the law is costing the very people it was supposed to help while decimating consumers’ wallets. Well done! The $20-an-hour wage floor foisted on California’s fast-food restaurants, dubbed with the innocent-sounding moniker Assembly Bill 257, was signed into law last fall. It didn’t take long to become a disaster. Hoover Institution senior fellow and economist Lee Ohanian showed just how quickly bad policies can wreck an economy. And the damage was done even before the law

Let’s say tomorrow, or in 10 years or even 15, that by some feat of magic that wind and solar could fully power the global economy. We could then stop extracting oil and the natural gas that’s a byproduct of drilling. Right? No, it wouldn’t work that way – because it can’t. Even in a world that ran entirely on renewable energy, it would still be necessary to drill for crude. Why? Because of, as Dustin Hoffman’s character Benjamin Braddock was told 1967’s “The Graduate,” plastics. “There’s a great future in plastics,” Mr. McGuire, a family friend, told Ben at his college graduation party.

‘How much should people freak out over Thursday’s SCOTUS oral arguments about Trump’s claims that he can’t be prosecuted for election crimes due to presidential immunity?” asked the Trump-hating Bulwark in a post last week. Answer: How deep is the ocean? How high is the sky? The Bulwark itself showcases the freakout, with an article asserting that the Supreme Court handed “another decided win … for the dark forces that threaten to convert our system of government from a democratic republic ruled by the people into one in which unconstrained power could be lodged in a single, despotic man.” Keep in mind that

While Americans brace for another contentious presidential election, the Democrats have a better idea: Subvert the Constitution in the name of “democracy.” Once again, the party of the left shows why it’s losing Americans’ trust. Quietly but steadily, the Democratic Party has been advancing its latest bold idea to create a uni-party state: A “National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.” In case you missed it, the Associated Press reported last week that “Maine will become the latest to join a multistate effort to elect the president by popular vote,” the 17th state to do so. As the AP noted, “Under the proposed compact, each state would allocate all its electoral votes

It’s not entirely coincidental that just weeks after President Joe Biden announced his latest plan to cancel student loan debt, antisemitic protests broke out on elite college campuses across the country. Biden’s bailout schemes only embolden these entitled brats. Students at some 18 colleges have staged anti-Israel “encampment” protests. At Columbia University (where a four-year degree will set you back north of $350,000), the protests got so out of hand and so virulently antisemitic that a rabbi at Columbia urged Jewish students to “return home as soon as possible” and the university moved to mostly hybrid classes. This has been going on for more than a week at Columbia

Maybe insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. But insanity is also whatever the California Legislature is doing at any given time. The most recent example? A reparations bill that would establish the California American Freedmen Affairs Agency has sailed through the Senate Judiciary Committee. Senate Bill 1403, one of at least 14 reparations bills introduced in the Legislature, cleared the committee by a 8-1 vote two weeks ago, confirming one more time that lawmakers have descended into madness. Unless they regain their wits, reparations will break the state. But a return to reason is unlikely.

Democrats have already made it clear that they will stop at nothing – nothing – to prevent Donald Trump from winning in November. So, we aren’t surprised to read reports that President Joe Biden might declare a “climate emergency” this year in hopes that it gooses his reelection odds. Never mind that such a declaration would put the U.S. right on the path to a Venezuela-style future. Late last week, Bloomberg reported that “White House officials are weighing whether to declare a national climate emergency several months out from the 2024 election.” Bloomberg goes on to report that: White House advisers

In recent weeks, the Biden administration has distanced itself and U.S. policy from Israel’s response to attacks from Hamas and Iran, two of Israel’s bitterest enemies. Americans show sharp political divisions in their support of Joe Biden’s policy shift toward the U.S.’ long-time Mideast ally. Hardly a day goes by without more news from the Mideast, much of it related to Israel’s retaliation following Hamas’ shocking Oct. 7 invasion, resulting in at least 1,200 dead and 240 kidnapped and held as hostages in Gaza and elsewhere. This month, after Israeli missiles killed the Iranian general who masterminded the raid, Iran launched a massive missile and drone strike against Israel.

It seems we’ve reached “peak EV,” with sales in trouble and assembly line workers losing their jobs. The hard truth is electric vehicle sales would have never reached the level they have if the government had not trespassed into private matters. The EV troubles are all around. Sales are slowing. Unsold cars have piled up in lots. Surveys plainly indicate that fewer Americans want them. In response to dramatically slowing sales, Ford announced last fall that it was delaying $12 billion in EV investments. Which should surprise no one, considering that the company lost nearly $73,000 on each EV it sold in the second quarter of 2023.

Just after Ronald Reagan won the presidential election in November 1980, economic adviser David Stockman wrote a memo warning the president-elect that he faced an “economic Dunkirk” thanks to the disastrous economy he was inheriting. Among Stockman’s warnings was that the Carter administration had set a “ticking regulatory time bomb” that would blow up the economy. “They have spent the past four years ‘tooling up’ for implementation through a mind-boggling outpouring of rulemakings, interpretative guidelines, and major litigation – all heavily biased toward maximization of regulatory scope and burden,” Stockman wrote.

Has there ever been a more hypocritically thin-skinned occupation than journalism? Day after day these relatively uneducated writers piously dish out opprobrium on those they don’t like and then respond like whiny spoiled brats when anyone dares to criticize them. Behind the levity, though, there was something darker, a darker undercurrent, if you will, and a point that the president had to make. And it was more profoundly serious. Joe Biden’s total silence and lack of action is only going to make things worse for them. Axios reported: Democrats enter panic mode as Gaza protests erupt..House and Senate Democrats’ anxiety is spiking as pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses around the country kick into overdrive. Former President Donald Trump has been having some serious sit-down meetings with some significant national leaders, and it's annoying the Biden administration. These kinds of meetings aren't all that unusual during presidential elections, but as usual, Donald Trump is doing this his way: In less than two months, Trump has hosted Polish President Andrzej Duda, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, former Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso and David Cameron, the former British prime minister who now serves as the U.K.’s foreign secretary. He’s also talked with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and others by phone. It’s not unusual for a party nominee to meet with foreign officials —

Five West Virginia middle-school track athletes who protested the participation of a transgender student in a recent competition have been barred from future meets and are now engaged in a legal battle with their school district that could end up at the Supreme Court. On April 18, during the 2024 Harrison County Middle School Championships, the student athletes — all girls — made local headlines by stepping out of the shot-put circle, choosing to forfeit rather than compete against a 13-year-old transgender female.
