Fourteen Senate Republicans crossed-party lines on Thursday to advance legislation creating a one-time filibuster carveout so Democrats can unilaterally raise the nation’s borrowing limit.
Led by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, the 14 Republicans voted alongside all 50 Senate Democrats to end debate on the topic. The move sets up the legislation to be passed later on Thursday by a simple majority within the Senate.
GOP lawmakers said the one-time carveout is a win because it pushes Democrats into raising the debt limit, a cap on how much the government can borrow to pay for federal expenditures, on their own.

Republicans are so accommodating. We desperately need an opposition party.

Y'all know my thoughts on this. I've been beating the drum for a new party ever since Mitt Romney threw the 2012 election.
Nothing since has changed my mind. The GOP elites will simply "wait out" MAGA types, and even DJT should he regain the Presidency.

Regardless of the party, the profligacy will never stop. Why should it when the elected clowns provide “free stuff” to the fools using the fools’ own money or borrowed money. Just imagine the low taxes and budget surpluses that would result if responsible people could be elected … don’t hold your breath.

If the shoe was on the other foot, do you think that the aggressive leftist and socialist Democrats would flinch like that to help out the wimpy Republicans? Not a chance unless their constituencies could suck up most of the cash.

At first - - I thought this was the typical Pubbie jellyfish squishathon - - but then - -
- - but then I saw that Fightin' Roy Blunt voted for it - - so I knew all is well - - because nobody fights for freedom and the Constitution like Fightin' Roy. Where does he get all that energy from? He's on our TV screens more than Mike Lindell and Joe Namath combined! What do they eat out there in Missouri? Whatever it is - - I want some! I'll have what Fightin' Roy had!

I agree with #4, there's an old saying when you find yourself in a hole stop digging. Inflation doomed Carter and the democRATs in 80s. The spending by this admin will not end inflation but increase it.
2022 elections are just 11 months away - no way the RATs get it under control.

How Garishly Goreish.."I voted for it before I voted against it".
The FACT is that Dems needed to have a budget by Last June, by LAW. Didn't.
HAD to have it passed before the fiscal year ended in Oct. Didn't.
Repubs gave them a short extension at that point and said "Last Time", get something we can pass on a bi partisan basis by dec...or that's allll on you."Not ONE repub vote!"
Letting them off the hook for NOT doing their job with this "Half Truth" bit of slight of hand? Makes it a whole Lie.
Repubs worry that THEY will get blamed for "Shutting down the Govt" even though dems have LITERALLY shut down much of the country many times over the last 2 years...NOT because of budgets, just because they could.
The People are TIRED of shutdowns, make the Dems do it, right before Christmas, or make them offer up a REAL budget that can get passed.
How long does THIS extension last??

There is nothing so meaningless as the debt limit. The uniparty wants to spend the country into perdition.

The Republicans who vote along with the Democrats on "must pass legislation" like this, which should not pass, remind me of battered women who keep bailing their abusive husbands/partners out of jail then going back to them in hopes that they will change or get along better. Of course, they always get beaten and abuse again. Democrats will spend and spend and always beat down and abuse the feckless Republicans who just want to get along.

Why didn't these weird "Republicans" just vote to increase the limit? It's the old politician shuffle: Vote in a way that enables the Democrats to pass bad legislation without your vote so you can go back home and say that you, yourself, didn't vote for that legislation. They do it again and again. Vote them out!

If Rinos were serious, the debt limit creates a Balanced Budget. You can't borrow any more, so you can't spend what you don't collect.

The RNC called me today trolling for a donation. I thanked them for stabbing me in the back yet again, and refusing to hold the line on the debt ceiling.
Republicans think this little trick keeps their fingerprints off the debt ceiling increase. We are not fooled. We know we have been raped by the Republican Party and Cocaine Mitch yet again.

These Senators MUST be replaced. Don't forget, and get someone to replace them. Worthless, rotten, cowardly pukes.
And worthless Roy Blunt, the sometimes conservative is right in there.

LIke Hell they do!!! Nobody pays that much attention. They just know that our great grandchildren are more in debt today than they were yesterday. And the Republi-Can'ts didn't do anything to stop them. Once again, the Republi-Can'ts look weak and spineless. They have the Demon-Rats on the ropes, but they just keep bailing them out.

McConnell will be 80 in February. This is likely his last 6 year stint in the Senate. At this point in his life he simply doesn't give a ****. He'll do whatever he has to to move the Crat agenda forward.

So the GOP voted to sharpen the knife the Dems are using on the rest of us, hoping they will trip and fall on it while stabbing the country in the back??? Are there ANY normal, sane adults in Washington D.C., or are they all so addicted to their %$#&&% games that they believe more in point scores than in the consequences staring them in the face? I have given up on most of the Republicans' having anything approaching good sense... either they are licking Dem boots, or they still haven't figured out that, with the rigged political, electioneering and media games, nobody EVER holds Dems accountable for the most blatant of offenses, and Dems are perfectly happy winning "dirty", as long as it's still a win they can take to the bank.

John Cornyn AGAIN---
He needs to shack up with Yertle the Turtle-- he has forgotten promises HE MADE that he would not go along with this sort of spending, and that Benedict McConnell was going to demand that they ALL would stand strong and NOT vote for raising the debt ceiling--
I was on a conference call when He HIMSELF PROMISED-- gave his word-- that he would not vote to raise the debt ceiling on December 3rd!!! With this, HE LIED to me for the last time--
I will support ANY opponent if the dares run again in a primary-- he burned his bridges with myself and a lot of other Texans-- don't show your face in Texas....
