Poppies of Flanders Fields

Original Article

Flanders Fields, Belgium, 1915: Poppies, the hue of human blood, blow in the gentle breeze. The scarlet blooms decorate thousands of Allied soldier graves. Graves of mud transfused with the blood of fallen brothers. 1,043 American soldiers perished in Belgium during World War I, 368 of whom are interred at Flanders Field American Cemetery. Today, Memorial Day, we remember their courage—and the courage of all American veterans—by revisiting the story of the vermilion poppies of Flanders Fields. Flanders Fields is the name for WWI battlefields on the border of northern Belgium and France.

Good story, and I have seen the fields of red poppies blooming there. And the poem is a touching one. Many times over the years I have purchased a 'bloody poppy' from someone collecting for veterans. Is the editor of this piece so totally ignorant that he/she selected this picture "of a soldier" and got a picture of that traitor Vindman at the top of this article? He has nothing to do with it, and is a terrible example of a soldier to use with an article like this. Disgusting picture takes away from an excellent story.

I thought the Poppies Theme was for Veterans Day in the fall? Not that I object to seeing it brought out twice a year...I love poppies.

We visited NE France around the Battle of the Somme area, which was a main battle area early in WW1. The numbers of dead are almost incomprehensible. Every tiny village of 4 or 8 homes has a WW1 cemetery. There are WW1 cemeteries at road junctions....a stone wall around a 100 ft by 100 ft or larger, filled with grave markers, and often to a single British Unit, with the name "53rd Queen's Hussars" or whatever. Alongside a road, you'll find a large walled cemetery, some 500 ft by 200 ft, and usually to a single unit. These sad reminders are everywhere. They still dig up unexploded shells, and find undiscovered bodies. We visited the Lochnagar Crater, 98 ft deep, 330 ft across, where a huge underground explosion was set off to breach German lines, and 'make a breakthrough'. After this gigantic explosion, hundreds of thousands of British troops poured out and tried to take the German lines. Dirt was thrown 4,000 feet in the air. On that single day, July 1, 1916, 19 such giant 'mines' were detonated, and on that one day, 30,000 British troops died in their largely unsuccessful attack. On ONE DAY, the opening day of the Battle of the Somme. 30,000 dead on the British side alone. The Battle of the Somme raged on for 5 months and resulted in about 600,000 dead on the Allied side, and about the same on the German side, although numbers are imprecise. Visiting WW1 battlefields is a sad and sobering experience. And if you visit in June and July, the bright red poppies are blooming along the roads, in the fields. And the poem comes to mind.

Love that poem Can remember my great-uncle reciting it sometime. He was in war and I think saw a lot of deaths.

The Washington Post thought it was doing the Lord’s work in fluffing Dr. Fauci’s reputation with an article about 866 pages of emails produced pursuant to a Freedom of Information Act request. The emails purportedly give a window on Fauci’s world in the thick of the 2020 global pandemic, and how he handled things under the pressure of that Bad Orange Man. You see, for the American public, the bloom is off the rose. Oh, you will always have your Cult of Fauci and people who believe that had it not been for Fauci, the entire nation would have been dead.

We saw after BLM/Antifa rioting and demanding to “defund the police,” that the cities that moved in that direction saw a big spike in crime, shootings and murders. Among the people being adversely affected by this, black people. So the very people BLM claims they’re fighting for with all this are some of the people being harmed by the defunding as well as the rioting. We’ve been reporting on this for months but the Washington Post appears to have just discovered it, as we reported earlier. But this isn’t the only place where the left and the media are getting it wrong.

Well this sounds a little racist. Joe Biden on Tuesday delivered a speech on the 100-year anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre. Biden was being his old perverted, racist self on Tuesday. He just can’t help himself. Joe Biden made a racist remark during his speech after telling little girls in pigtails they would get ice cream if they sat through his speech. “The data shows young black entrepreneurs are just as capable of succeeding given the chance as white entrepreneurs are, but they don’t have lawyers, they don’t have accountants, but they have great ideas,” Biden said.

Via Real Clear Investigations Democrats and much of the media are pushing to make permanent the extraordinary, pandemic-driven measures to relax voting rules during the 2020 elections – warning anew of racist voter “suppression” otherwise. Yet democracies in Europe and elsewhere tell a different story – of the benefits of stricter voter ID requirements after hard lessons learned. A database on voting rules worldwide compiled by the Crime Prevention Research Center, which I run, shows that election integrity measures are widely accepted globally, and have often been adopted by countries after they’ve experienced fraud under looser voting regimes.

A drunken teen in Milwaukee broke into an Airbnb and passed out — only to wake up and find the rental was occupied by three out-of-town sheriff’s deputies. The Montana lawmen, who were in town for emergency vehicle training and had been sleeping, got up and saw the back door of the property open. When they went upstairs, they found the 19-year-old man knocked out cold in one of the beds, they explained in a Friday TikTok video. “This silly guy found the one Airbnb in all of downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin, loaded with cops,” one of the deputies said in the viral video. “He woke up in handcuffs.”

How much has the psychology of our nation been upended by this pandemic? We’ve seen people blindly turn over their lives to the dictates of the government. The government shut down businesses, jobs and destroyed lives. Children went without in-person school. Every other illness or condition seemed to be suborned to the interest of fighting the pandemic. When the CDC said that fully vaccinated people could now go without masks, one would think that those on the left who said “Follow the science” would have been happy. This meant they could drop the masks. But instead, people who previously accepted the government dictates then refused to accept that one.

A Houston-area hospital is being sued by 117 employees over its mandate that all staff must be vaccinated against COVID-19 by June 7 or they will be terminated. The hospital’s employees claim they are being used as “human guinea pigs.” The civil suit was filed on Friday. It contends that the mandate violates the Nuremberg Code and U.S. statutes that permit Americans to legally refuse “unapproved” medical treatments. The suit also claimes that it violates both Texas labor and employment laws. Lead plaintiff Jennifer Bridges told KHOU that the hospital “trying to force you to put something into your body that you’re not comfortable with to keep your job is just insane.”

The 78-year-old President of the United States, Joe Biden, is not well. He is suffering from an obvious mental decline. Americans are not sure of his exact condition because he has not released any mental competency test results. When he was asked about it during the presidential campaign, he responded in anger and accused the news reporter who posed the question of being a “junkie.” Clearly, Biden does not exhibit the same mental acuity that he did as a United States Senator. Comparing videos of Senator Biden versus President Biden shows he is a shadow of his former self.

What were they thinking? It’s pretty clear after decades of failures and the rise of the Marxist left in the US that Republicans are not the brightest politicians and strategists. They somehow stumble into wins. President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) may consider a plan to bring deported illegal aliens back to the United States, presumably paid for by American taxpayers. The open borders lobby shared a plan with the Biden administration to bring illegal aliens deported by former President Donald Trump’s administration back to the U.S., according to the Associated Press (AP). More than 935,000 illegal aliens were deported by the Trump administration. The plan, open borders activists with the corporate-backed National Immigrant Justice Center suggest, could be done through executive order by Biden and create an office inside DHS that allows deported illegal aliens to submit requests to return to the U.S.
