Tiger Woods has no memory of the accident that left him with a shattered his right leg — and appeared to be unaware of how badly injured he was when the first deputy arrived at the scene, according to reports.“At the hospital he was asked about it by the investigators and he had no recollection of the crash itself,” LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva told CNN, according to the Times of London.Sheriff’s Deputy Carlos Gonzalez, who arrived first at the scene, told NBC’s “Today” on Wednesday that the golfing legend was calm, but appeared to be unaware of how badly he was hurt.

I really hope we aren't going to have to listen to lengthy Tiger updates in the news all week or I'm switching to The Match Game!

I'll bet he has a concussion. The memory will come back, but it will take time. I don't think he was impaired with drugs or alcohol.
I have driven those hills and they are very tricky because going downhill you can find yourself going much faster than you intended and with all those curves it would be easy to just drive off the road. Remember Tiger lives if "flat as a pancake" Florida with lots of traffic, but no hills. It will be interesting to see if the police can reconstruct what happened.

Sorry, but that's just too convenient. The reports said he was conscious and lucid when they got to him.
I sincerely hope he has a full recovery, but I'm going to disregard any "news" about Woods in between.

In a picture taken the day before, he looked exhausted. Having to get up early for a photo shoot may have been partly to blame. He may have dozed off trying to get to the photo shoot on time since he was late getting started. It happens. It was an accident. I hope he has a full recovery.

The reports clearly state he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The way the accident happened (wandering into the median) a good guess would be he fell asleep behind the wheel. I wish him well and hope he can get #83.

The crash happened around 7am, didn't it? I doubt if he was impaired. I am interested in updates on his condition.

Tiger says he has no memory, having talked to his lawyer. I suspect Tiger never will remember what happened.

Crashes happen every day and since the car was new it was most likely driver error. For most people this news would never spread beyond the local news but, you know, it being black history month and all...

I had a similar blackout last Oct. while standing along the road near my home and watching my dog sniff the leaves on the ground. All went black and I knew nothing until I was being put into an ambulance. My medical alert called for help and I have no memory of it at all and have never recalled any memory of about 45 minutes.
Dr. thinks it was a sudden stop in blood flow to the head which will do that and now I'm undergoing all kinds of heart tests. Had stress test this week and it was a stressful experience for sure.

I am a racing fan. On two occasions, both which happened at the Road Atlanta race course in the 1970s, I had an opportunity to ask professional racing drivers about their crashes a short time after they had had a fairly bad crash, although neither was injured at all, not knocked out, walking around just fine, each got out of their car after the wreck by themselves.
I was surprised in each case when, after I asked about their crash when each said, "Did you see it? Did you see how it happened?" Both drivers, although completely uninjured had the memory of the accident somehow knocked out of them by the impact. Neither had any idea of how the crash happened, and were interested in understanding what had happened from witnesses.
I was helping one driver (Peter Revson) to load his damaged car onto a trailer after the race, and he was examining the skid marks and trying to judge what went wrong since he had no idea. We discussed it for several minutes. I did see the last part of that one, and was able to tell him that it looked like he had a tire deflate, but that it seemed to have happened over the crest of a hill before I could see him. Examination of the pavement showed magnesium ground into the pavement by the wheel rim, starting over the crest of the hill, which showed that a tire had disintegrated, causing his loss of control.
I'm not surprised that Mr. Woods can't remember this, it is pretty common with a hard impact like this to have the short term memory erased. Apparently, somehow a few minutes of memories are stored in some sort of a volatile storage, and if not transferred to a longer term storage method, like in a crash trauma, those few minutes are just lost. I doubt that he is faking it. The racing drivers had no reason to fake this, I'm sure they were telling the truth, too.

I guess this will be the Princess Diana deal all over again. I was in the wilderness country backpacking for two weeks when that happened. When we got out, it was the only thing on all channels. It was hours before we could discover that it had happened several days earlier and was STILL the only thing on all channels. We kept the TV off in the motel.
The news idiots are just crazy about this sort of stuff......BORING.

#13 - I doubt Tiger was in racing performance mode. You know the reason race drivers ask is because they are completely focused on their driving the car, hitting their lines and marks. A deteriorating tire is a catastrophic failure putting them virtually out of the driver's seat and into passenger mode. Jim Clark's fatal is another example.
There is more to this story than being told.

It's a well-known phenomenon called retrograde amnesia which happens in situations of extreme physical or mental stress. I didn't believe what someone told me I did under fire in Afghanistan until I saw the blood all over the fingers of both hands, but I could not remember what caused it, and still don't.

This article quotes the deputy at the scene. Another 48 hours has gone by since the accident. Bits and pieces of what happened may be coming back to him. #13, 16 give excellent explanations over what might have happened. I go along with #12. I think he may have had a TIA. I also know not too long ago I was driving on a highway with no shoulder. I looked back at something that caught my eye. I darn near lost control of my car.

Sometimes the mind will shut down some of the thought processes to protect the victim from remembering the traumatic situation and the pain. I truly hope the media isn't going to make it seem like Woods is trying to hide something here. Chances are good since he probably had at least one rollover that he hit his head. That would do it. It is a shame that some folks are willing to believe the worst about somebody before they get all the facts.
I seem to remember the awful accident that Barbara Mandrell went though several decades ago where she was in such bad shape she had temporary amnesia and didn't know where she was. Wound up punching an orderly as I recall too. It might take awhile for Woods to remember fully the accident. I hope the LE respects that and doesn't try to knit a problem out of whole cloth.

You can bet your boots that Tiger will never want to remember what happened in that accident. Can you imagine the result if there was a fire.

Actually, this is believable. I was in a terrible car accident as a teen, as was my sister. To this day neither of us remembers a thing about the accident and we're both in our 70's.

Tiger Woods has had a rough time the last few years. I hated seeing the spokesman talking to the press at length. A simple statement and then go silent. Of course, the gossips were going to speculate the worst scenarios.

#15, my point was that a hard crash can literally wipe out a short stretch of memory. It has nothing at all to do with what "mode" either Mr. Woods or the pro drivers were in. They lost ALL their memories because they were in a crash, even ones that didn't injure them.

I haven't seen anyone speculating on an 'unsuccessful' suicide attempt....seems unlikely, but I wouldn't rule it out.....
