Truck yeah! The US Postal Service on Tuesday unveiled a modern replacement for the iconic Grumman LLV mail truck that has been in use since the late 1980s.The new design consists of a waste-high front hood that resembles the front beak of a duck in front of an extra-high windshield.Oshkosh Defense has been contracted to build between 50,000 and 165,000 of the new trucks over the next 10 years — replacing vehicles that have been in service for as long as three decades, USPS said in a statement.Oshkosh’s design is not completely finalized,

I ordered an item from a provider in Maine to my home in Connecticut. The tracking was 'in transit' for 18 days and finally had to be abandoned and remailed by the provider. I would rather they fix that.

Do they have a quick, plug-and-run electric module so they can run on electricity generated by green unicorn flatus?

FTA: "The new design consists of a waste-high front hood". Does that mean the hood is only as high as the piled up trash in the urban areas of the country?

Oh Wow!!! Now they can screw up our mail service in style. How about selling off the zip codes to the private sector and be done with it?

Doubt that they will improve the timeliness of modern postal deliveries, but they'll look cooler driving around, I guess.

It won’t happen if Trump had anything to do with that contract, instead we will find that the contract will probably be redirected to a Chinese entity that has a connection to some guy named Hunter.

Well, the USPS has finally figured out how to build on their $85,000,000,000+ annual operating deficit!
In my two block subdivision, I see UPS, FedEx vehicles circle through numerous times -every DAY. Why are we not letting a profit motivated, private company do this?

OK. Here are some examples of competence. I placed two orders from an internet vendor on the same day. (Not Amazon). They were both shipped that day by usps. One showed up about four days later. I decided to track the second package. It was sitting in a facility in Saint Louis. It sat 5here for two days. The next time I checked it was sitting at a facility in Las Vegas. Now since I live in Ohio it appeared to this package was kinda maybe heading the wrong direction. Anyway, it sat in Vegas for three days then just disappeared for another five days and to my surprise finally showed up in my mailbox.
Next, it seem I can no get my utility bills in prior to the due date. Have had this happen at least four times. I did check on line for amounts and made sure they were paid on time.
A friend living in Maryland sent me a Christmas card on December 7th. I received it January 22nd.
I sent in payment for my property taxes with a ten day lead. The treasurers office is about 10 miles from here. Guess what? It did not show up on time. I was penalized 10%. But, worked that out after the payment was received.
Hey, I am just one person. If all of these are happening to me I can’t imagine how much of this incompetence is really happening. The Postal Service has been inefficient for a very long time. Everyone knows it. No one does anything about it.
As far as the trucks go. The current design is old but functional. If buying new they should keep the current body and frame design and upgrade the engine, drive train, suspension and electronics. What good is the duck bill. Anyway, has anyone noticed a day in the week that you don’t get mail on most of the time. For us it is Thursday and has been going on for years.
Sorry about the rant!

Have to agree with #!...I ordered something from Kalifornia early November, didn't come and didn't come, mid November I contacted them and they said it was sent...reordered and it arrived within a week...original mailing then showed up December 15th...since then they have lost my grand daughters birthday card and check, a check to our church 5 miles away, a birthday card to my sister in law with gift card inside...yesterday I hand carried an insurance bill to the office and paid two bills online...and adding more...used to be you could depend on your mail getting through...no more...next time I send anything important it will be with a tracking number and signature required...

Just get my stuff here in a timely fashion.

Unless theses trucks can sort and deliver properly what's the point. I can get as many as three different addresses delivered to me in one day and I live in an ordinary subdivision in a midsize town. I have to use post office instead of fedex or ups to send care packages to my granddaughters in college because they have P.O. boxes and it is a crap shoot if they get them let alone in a timely manner.

And now this long standing gubmint bidness is changing from two day first class mail delivery to three to five day first class mail delivery. And still losing mail and billions of dollars in the process.
So we have new trucks to lose mail and money but at a slower rate. Sounds like a gooberment operation to me.

I'm super disappointed. I was hoping that Oscar Mayer would win with its Wienermobile. Not only would it be safer in either a front-end or back-end collision (with the latter a design requirement by our new Secretary of the Posterior, Bootyboy), but it would also be a good reminder that getting screwed by our government will be a daily occurrence now.

Have to give them their due- Mail-In Ballots provided the individual activist Democrat postal route workers a perfect chance to ';make a difference' by selectively dumping ballots from people with Trump signs in their yards.
Or swiping them before they could be filled out and filling them out for Pluggo.
That would go a little way toward explaining why so many people went to vote in person on Election Day and were told 'You already voted'.
Either way, it was the opposite of secure voting.
When Trump returns the whole lot should be scrapped and contracted out.

Why does this seem like an immense waste of money? The USPS has far worse problems than how “sleek” its vans are.

Those little trucks will be hotter and less comfortable on the eyes than the current model, due to the oversized windshield.

I tried to send my daughter a small package with 3 day priority mail. It arrived in DC 3 weeks later. Tracking had it at a distribution center in Maryland for over a week. Upon arrival, the contents had to be left outside and sprayed with Febreze because the stench of pot was so bad.

If they aren't electric, then go back to the drawing board and bid process.
The USPS delivery trucks, in particular, are prime examples of what should be an electric option since it hardly needs much of a charge since the distance they travel are very small and local.

Re #6. Apparently, the proofreaders are gone from almost all media. Misuse is common now....words like 'baited' breath instead of 'bated' and the incorrect use of it's and its. Journalism schools still manage however to teach their students to love Marxism and radical left ideas.

It sure would be nice if they employed editors who have a functioning understanding of vocabulary and who don't rely overly much on spell check. Because spell check doesn't catch grammar errors editors.

I hate the post office...but I must admit that our little suburb west of Minneapolis has an excellent office. I had a package lost and we called yesterday and got the Post Master. She was extremely helpful and my package arrived today. I hope they can maintain their level of service! Hate the design on the new truck...butt ugly!

That's nice. Where is my package ? Last summer I mailed a birthday gift. It took five weeks mailed from the clerk's desk to go 18 miles. I had to call the route supervision at the other end. In January I had two birthday cards returned with the corner torn. Looking for gift cards ? I mail the gift separately from the clerk's desk to go 10 miles away. Never got it. Called the other post office twice and was told "It might be in a bin. We are having a hard time since COVID" Then I filed a report with the inspector's office. NADA.
However, if you pay for priority mail versus first class, they get it the next day. Extortion.
