The company has changed its website so that it now just shows a goodbye message. Fry’s has more than two dozen stores mainly across California and Texas. There are six stores in Northern California, eight in Southern California, eight in Texas, two in Arizona, and one store each in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. There is a unique theme to each store. The Bay Area locations are: Fremont: 1893 World’s Fair

What is depressing is the Biden/Harris train wreck is just starting. I wonder how many people lost jobs from these closings.

Is it time to learn how to make solar panels OR is it time to develop a business dedicated to the disposal of solar panels?

Sad to see it go. It was every technophile's magic emporium. A Disneyland for nerds. I admit, I was a Frequent Fryer.

This has been a long time coming. One our local Fry's has been like a zombie apocalypse for many months now.

The end of another era although I have to admit we haven't been to a Fry's since 2000 when we permanently expatriated from the Golden State. Great fun back in the 90s, toys for men.

Never heard of it, but another business killed by the Demonrats and their fake pandemic, which is actually negligably different than the more harmful variants of the annual flu virus, yet was intentionally and fraudulently weaponized to destroy Trump.

Much as I would like to blame this on Joe Biden and the Democrats as some are doing here, this has nothing to do with either. This has been a long time coming as the local Frys stores have been virtual ghost stores for years now. They just couldn't seem to make the transition to online commerce. This changing environment almost took out Best Buy, too, but they managed to adapt, at least for the time being. This is the law of the jungle: adapt or die.

Another victim of the Amazon effect. Anyone who wasn't competitive in the online market was eventually eaten alive especially if you were in large footprint stores with very high lease rates.

Too bad. I have been to the location in Burbank (the one across from Bob Hope Airport with the space ship crash on the front) a couple of time while in California on Business. I'll certainly miss doing that. Man, the stuff you could get there!

Agree with some of the above. There was a time when you waited 20-30 deep in line to approach one of a dozen+ cashiers. Stopped by last year (granted, we were locked down) and there weren't more than 3 customers in the entire store and only 1 cashier. It was spooky.

Milenials and Gen X folks don't seem to own any sort of sound systems or electronics other than a video game and their phone, so no sales for stereos and such.

The left is throwing a party celebrating destruction of capitalism and free enterprise. Mission being accomplished in a daily basis.

I have to agree with #7. If you can sit at your laptop and order specialty electronics by mail there is not much reason to go in person. Then along come Newsome's lethal lockdowns that become the coup de grace that kills another business.

I loved the store in north Phoenix. We would travel clear across the valley to go to that store. The people working there were more than helpful and knowledgeable. Since moving to Iowa, other than Best Buy, there isn't anywhere to get electronics. All you can do is order online and hope it is what you needed.

That's too bad. I always enjoyed going into a Fry's to check out the latest in geek gear.
It was like an auto parts or hardware store for nerds.

Fry's was not killed by Amazon. Being California based was part of the problem. The decline in people shopping for computers, software, printers, etc. The lack of needing to upgrade all the time. Smartphones doing everything. Inventory too expensive. Labor too costly. This started about eight years ago and picked up steam. They never made the right adjustments. I use Amazon for research only and then buy elsewhere. I won't support the fascist Bezos.

Another story mentioned that much of their inventory was on consignment. They could no longer afford to buy the products on their shelves. This will probably create an unpleasant ripple affect within the industry among electronics parts suppliers.

Back at the beginning of 2020, Frys -- who had been suffering for several years (probably another victim of Amazon more than anything) -- announced big plans to restructure their supply lines. It sounded promising.
But then Covid-19 hit, and massive government over-reach was the final nail in their coffin. Sadly, while have a few stores in Texas (I think 8 all together), the majority of their stores and their management were in Cuba-fornia. They were doomed!!!

Too bad, loved that store. And liké #3, I built several graphics computers for my business. As for #15, the North Phoenix store was out on either Thunderbird or Bell Road. It was a One Stop Shop for us geeks.

So my in-house warrantee (that I didn't buy) on my new 3year old laptop is not in effect ?
Business success ... pick ONE thing you are VERY good at and do it.
Do not pick 50 things that other people are doing and try to out-price them because you can't out-price all of them.

End of an era - back in my SillydotcomValleyDaze there were more than a few times where "Going to Fry's" was a valid excuse for an afternoon!
Between Fry's and Radio Shack many a trade show or demo was rescued at the last moment by a quick trip.
