Plumbers from out of state are needed in Texas to help repair frozen pipes, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) said on Friday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow.Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) temporarily waived certain state licensing requirements to allow out-of-state plumbers to work in Texas. An NBC affiliate in the Dallas-Fort Worth area reported, “Abbott’s office announced Friday it is giving out provisional permits to out-of-state plumbers, and waiving some fees and examination requirements for plumbers whose licenses have expired.”Roy explained, “I do know that Gov. Abbott has changed the rules in allowing people from outside of state.

Common sense way to help residents return to normal.
My husband's company sent five crews to Texas to help with disaster mitigation. As soon as those pipes thaw water will be everywhere. I hope that people were told to turn off their water at the source when the deep freeze arrived.
Up here where it's always cold in the winter, every year we get calls from people returning home from warmer climes only to discover that the homes were destroyed by water and the they receive a sky high water bill. The other guarantee is that at least one realtor will show a home and forget to turn the heat on or close a window. Those have led to rooms where the furniture is encased in ice blocks and frozen waterfalls cascade from the windows.

Some fees? Sounds like any plumber who wants to volunteer to help out is still going to have to pay out of pocket to hoop jump even before they can help. Since the state governor and legislature set the wheels in motion which contributed to this disaster, let them pay, and better yet make Biden and his WH pay.

In the early 90's we went to Chicago to visit TK's family for Christmas. His uncle was a retired plumbing inspector for the City of Chicago, and his sons owned a plumbing business. Another son lived in Houston and they had a huge ice storm and his pipes froze. On Christmas Eve we drove Uncle Bud to O'Hare where he hopped a flight to Houston. He called back up to Chicago the next day and told the "boys" what was needed. They loaded up the plumbing trucks and headed south to help out their brother. Cousin John was the first on his block to have water flowing again. His neighbors asked how he found plumbers so fast and he answered, "I grew up with them!"
God bless plumbers!

I'm surprised that people wouldn't drain down their pipes if they knew that they were not going to keep the heat going. I have done this, not exactly rocket science.

In 1998, my home town suffered a catastrophic hail storm. We needed a lot of roofers. Happily, the state government got out of the way and we had roofers from all over the country come to help replace thousands of roofs.

We just had a major plumbing job done two months ago when the plumber gave me the bill I commented, "my surgeon doctor who replaced my knee didn't charge that much". My plumber said, "I know I used to be a doctor I gave it up to make more money as a plumber". God bless Texas and the plumbers helping to recover from the devastation along with the linemen who kept the electricity flowing during the cold. Those people are real heroes.

Now there's a governor who has respect across the country. Duds like Whittmer, Cuomo, Wolf, Newsom, Northam only wish they could do something smart or effective.

Those of us who live in colder climates and are used to really low temps know that running a small stream of water in a couple of bathrooms or a kitchen will help prevent pipes from freezing. However, those of us that live in colder climates also know our pipes are also buried a lot deeper in the ground. I'm assuming pipes in certain parts of the south aren't buried as deep, and would be more apt to freeze doing the kind of temps they experienced last week. In which case, there is going to be a lot of water flooding a lot of homes and neighborhoods.

Fun fact: If you have one frozen pipe, chances are you have multiple frozen pipes during a thaw. Don't know what will come up in the Spring, but I watered my little chunk of old Route 66 out front all night. It just allows you to forget having to use bottled water to power a toilet flush. ( he screamed as he tore at his clothes) When is the Globe going to Warming?
