A group of asylum seekers being housed at the expense of the British taxpayer in a Reading hotel have staged a hunger strike, protesting against the quality of the free food they are given. Great logic. The portions are small, so let’s go on a hunger strike to make sure they’re smaller. An appropriate response would be: “You may have a good point there, so we are going to study the situation and we should be back to you in about two months.“

Interest in a third political party is intensifying and now has reached an unprecedented level of approval according to a new Gallup poll. “Americans’ appetite for a third party has never been greater in Gallup’s nearly two decades of polling on the subject, and now a majority of Republicans are joining the usual majority of independents in wanting that option,” wrote senior editor Jeffrey M. Jones in an analysis released Monday. “Sixty-two percent of U.S. adults say the ‘parties do such a poor job representing the American people that a third party is needed,’ an increase from 57% in September,” he said.

Bartow, Fla.—A teacher for Polk County Schools was arrested for physically fighting two students following a Bartow High School basketball game, police said. According to the Bartow Police Department, a group of students were involved in an altercation at a Bartow High School basketball game on Friday. After the game, the students went to a nearby McDonald’s. A rocket attack at a U.S.-led military base in Kurdish northern Iraq on Monday killed a civilian contractor and wounded five other people including a U.S. service member, according to initial reports, the U.S. coalition in Iraq said.
