Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell will ask Democrats to delay the start of Donald Trump's impeachment trial until early February to give the former president's legal team time to prepare a defense. McConnell revealed his plans on a phone call with Republican senators Thursday. 'Senate Republicans are strongly united behind the principle that the institution of the Senate, the office of the presidency, and former President Trump himself all deserve a full and fair process that respects his rights and the serious factual, legal, and constitutional questions at stake,' McConnell said in a statement.(Snip)McConnell and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer have been working

OP is right. I read that Cocaine Mitch told PDJT he wouldn't press impeachment if PDJT didn't pardon Assange and Kiriakou (don't know who he is). Evidently he is going ahead with the impeachment. PDJT should have gone ahead with the pardons. Turtle wins again.

What a complete weasel. No one respects him except the dems - guess that's important to this RINO. This is just really disgusting. Everyone knows President Trump didn't encourage the few people who broke into the White House just like everyone knew he was innocent the first time. Guess old turtle neck doesn't really realize he has lost President Trump supporters. That will make a difference during the next election.

Somebody tell Mitch McConnell that citizens can't be impeached. I believe that the Constitution provides for impeachment to remove someone from office. They are trying to impeach Trump to bar him from running in 2024.
I don't know how the current Supreme Court would rule on this one but who knows how they would rule on anything these days.

Well, Turtle, isn't that mighty nice of you. Meanwhile, read the Constitution. Conducting an impeachment trial for past presidents isn't in it, pal.

mcconnell is the most disingenuous and deceitful member of the senate, ever, and that's going some to give him that much praise.

Didn't I read that the WaPo stated that Trump didn't incite the Capitol matter?
Believe it was buried in their legal section which means they're concerned with possible lawsuits.
Even with a public figure, if you KNOW the truth, and still distort, or slander, the person, you can be held liable.

These pols are really putting themselves in danger with all these "shows of force" they're engaging in.
Mitch, the Antifa/BLM gangsters know where you live... they're not going to be impressed with your treason to your Party. They'll just see you as even more weak and evil than they already think. No one likes a traitor.

The depth of stupidity is astonishing. Looks like I can be impeached too. I once held office in government.

Biden won. What more do they want? Do they really think they can change the hearts of people who voted for President Donald Trump and miss him?

McConnell is leading the Republican party over a cliff like lemmings. The more they try to banish Trump, the madder we get.

Well, except for Biden...and the Whore...and PIAPS...and that bulbous-nosed pedophile, Bill...

Consider the ramifications of the precedent they are setting: After an election when a new party takes power they can retroactively impeach members of the previous party in power on whatever bogus charges they can dream up and thus ensure their opponents can never serve in office again. Can you get any more banana republic?

The people ruling America don't care about the Constitution. The sooner we acknowledge that the better. Know thine enemy, accept the truth, and you'll process information thoroughly and form better war plans.

There can be no trial. This is unconstitutional.
But, we now know that the Constitution is used to wipe your feet in Washington.
This is a travesty. Hideous, wrong on many levels.

This story, if true, tells you something about the current state of the law profession in the USA, by insinuating that there are no lawyers in the USA who would defend a former President in an unconstitutional action that amounts to a unconstitutional bill of attainder against a private citizen by the US Senate.

McConnell, if you hold that trial, the Republican Party is over with. You will have a party left supported by about 50,000 people, and some rich billionaires.

OK, so can we impeach 0bama now? And Clinton again?
They want to convict PDT so that he can’t run again, but an unconstitutional conviction would be meaningless, so he CAN run again.
