Live crabs. Bras with rhinestones. Old shoes. Frayed electrical cords. Knock-off Louis Vuitton clutches. Disposable face masks. Mets caps. Illegal street peddlers hawking such items have taken over the outer boroughs, clogging sidewalks with their second-hand wares and pulling customers from pandemic-ravaged mom-and-pop shops. And everybody is pointing the finger at Mayor de Blasio. From Brooklyn to the Bronx, Staten Island and Queens, folding tables and mats rolled out on the ground force pedestrians to go single-file or step aside so they don’t get run over.(Snip) DianSong Yu of the Flushing Business Improvement District estimates 90 percent of the

If another Giuliani takes the mayor’s seat in NY, it’ll take his whole term and more to clean up DeBlasio’s mess. Liberals always leave trash for conservatives to clean up. Just like dogs.

But by golly, if you're a legitimate business and try to open your doors the hammer of government comes down on you swiftly and with all it's might.

New York continues to turn into a cesspool.
It seems fitting that the article mentions Flushing.

Pre-Rudy, this type of street activity was thought by many to be part of the fun and charm of NYC. Rudy cleaned it up, and the city saw a renaissance beyond imagination. It felt safe, family-friendly, and exciting to be there. It was glorious.
Now, as names of those interested in running for mayor are quietly surfacing, it's clear that there is no Rudy in the mix. It'll be doubling down on the wretchedness, with even more preposterous "fixes" and propositions. Well, at least I can entertain my grandchildren with tales of old, when NYC had Broadway shows, the Circus, sports and concerts at MSG, street fairs, parades, and just plain strolling and enjoying the sights. I wonder if they'll believe me.

My goodness but NY and NYC in general has turned into a hell hole. Remember it well from many decades ago. Why anyone would ever want to visit let alone live there is beyond me. What I will never understand is how those from NYC and California actually believe they are the elite and the country would do well if we would just follow their lead. Happy to live in the midwest far away from this scum. However, as these people escape from NY and other left leaning states, please do not move to our states and bring your crap ass liberal beliefs with you. If that is how you truly believe please stay home and leave us alone.

The report ends noting that enforcing vendor regulations will be taken away from the police department January 15, and left to the Consumer Affairs department.
Maybe they'll supply free nails and hangers to the illegal vendors, so they can hang their wares better from the boarded up storefronts.
I lived in NYC a long time. I can't tell you how sad it is to read these sorts of stories, and yet it's just a microcosm of the country as a whole.

In Afghanistan, they have bazaars for people to set up their temporary selling areas. They use the sidewalks for walking.
NYC sure is a backward place.

According to a recent NYT article, many of the vendors are illegal aliens. The Post article posted here cites a case where a customer got sick after eating contaminated crab from an unlicensed seafood market.
So, it costs a citizen ≈ $250K to run an open air market selling safe if not entirely legitimate products and a.) they aren’t allowed to open because of COVID b.) they are held responsible for their products. It costs illegals nothing to open live animal markets of the sort found in Wuhan China and if the products sicken or kill customers, oh well.
The longer this criminal leadership is allowed to go on the harder it will be to eradicate it. For law and order to return all illegals must be deported and the criminals in leadership positions in American cities should be hanged. The fundamental transformation of the country is not something we need to tolerate.

De Blasio ordered the cops to lay off the street vendors, presumably to enhance the Rotten Apple's Third World status, with the rabble scraping out a meager existence on the crumbling streets.
