A government television broadcast in Cuba this week urged citizens to eat guinea pig and other rodents, suggesting rodent meat is more nutritious and “sustainable” than pork or beef, Cuban outlets reported on Wednesday. The Communist Party has presided over major food shortages in Cuba for decades, beginning almost immediately following the Cuban Revolution in 1959. In recent years, the Castro regime has blamed President Donald Trump for extensive food shortages and failed distribution of government-mandated rations. While the Trump administration has imposed significant sanctions on the regime in response to the increased frequency of human rights violations against pro-democracy dissidents in the Obama era, these sanctions have targeted elite individuals

Eating rodents? That's exactly how some North Koreans survived their multiple famines. I once read a book written by someone who had escaped that Communist hell-hole. He explained that after you capture a rat, you tie a long string to its neck and it will lead you to its underground collection of food scraps, which the rat hunter would also eat.

I didn't think Cuba could sink any lower, but apparently they have. They deserve the same kind of shunning that South Africa got for decades.

Last I heard guinea pig was a main dish in places like Peru or Chile. Anyone ever had squirrel or rabbit? Yeah. Bugs Bunny is a part of the rodent family.

Yes, people in the U.S. still hunt and eat squirrels and rabbits, but it isn't a major food source except in very poor rural areas. Still, it isn't something people should be sustaining themselves on. I am sure the left here won't be happy til we get rid of all our cows and pigs (CO2 you know) and end up eating rats and eventually our pets in desperation. Ain't communism grand?? ugh...

Hi #7. "... but it isn't a major food source except in very poor rural areas". I live in a suburban area and use the doggie door as a sniper's nest and a Gamo pellet gun to take out squirrels that come into the bird feeders. I grill them up with a little butter, salt, pepper and garlic.

That's just gross, #13. Everyone knows that you are supposed to wrap them in foil and suspend them over the hot coals.

Cuba was one of Kennedy's biggest failures when he pulled the plug on the Bay of Pigs. A group of ragged jungle fighters and a couple of old planes beat the US Military thanks to Harvard style leadership and the panic of youth.
If rodents are all that stand between you and starvation, you will eat rodents.

No, #6 — rabbits are not rodents. They are in the family Leporidae of the order Lagomorpha (along with the hare and the pika).
Although once considered rodents, lagomorphs like rabbits have been discovered to have diverged separately and earlier than their rodent cousins, and have a number of traits rodents lack, like two extra incisors.

When you're hungry enough, you'll eat anything. The Donner party, the survivors of the plane that crashed in the Andes, you do what you have to do.

This is not the end game for marxist governments. Check out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor for what may be the next step at control for the people of Cuba. The posters which warned mothers not to cook the children was not satire.

Once the Russians could no longer afford to support their Communist Comrades, the writing was on the wall. It's rather hard to plow a field with a 54 Chevy BelAir.

Hi #14. Your exactly right. I forgot the aluminum foil. And when I say a little bit of butter, I mean a whole lot of butter.
