Falls Church, Va.—A Black defendant’s right to a fair trial would be harmed if the jury heard the case in a courtroom lined with portraits of white jurists, a northern Virginia judge has ruled. The upcoming trial of Terrance Shipp on charges of eluding police will be held in a courtroom that has no portraits on the wall, said Fairfax County Circuit Court Judge David Bernhard. Bernhard noted that his usual courtroom has no portraits. But jury trials that were postponed during the coronavirus pandemics are now being held in larger courtrooms. The walls of those rooms are lined with portraits of retired judges

The Left’s “long march” through our institutions is nearly complete.

We used to advocate ideas in this Country -- liberty, equal protection, and due process. Our culture revered those people who administered those ideas faithfully.
The Left has succeeded in inserting the pursuit of insidiously appealing, Hallmark, non-ideas -- diversity, equality and victimhood. These are conditions, not ideas and certainly not values.
We are now seeing the next step in their twisted, incremental progression toward statist totalitarianisms -- the reverence of those who bring you those ridiculous memes and the denigration and destruction of those who stand in their way.

Put blackface on them whitey judges’ faces then there will be fair trial. How hard was that?

Time to impose total segregation in the USA.
Black African Americans do not want to live in peace with White European Americans.

2. Leave him there.

Take 'em all down. No pictures, no statues. Just abstract art. Donated. Time limits on display. Keep rotating; we'll like some, not others but it'll change. We all get something to look at. No tax dollars involved, nobody gets butt hurt for very long.

This is carrying the race farce too far.
The next step will be that a black man cannot get a fair trial in a courtroom painted white

Great Idea! Take all those honkies off of the wall and replace them with black American heroes. To make the defendant comfortable, I would put up pictures of notables that he should be able to identify with. I propose pictures of Stepen' Fetchit, Amos and Andy, Butterfly McQueen and Buckwheat.

So, by that criteria, they can't try him if there is snow on the ground (it is white you know).

We currently have the most miserable judiciary that I have ever seen in my 40+ years of practicing law.

And I definitely do not want to be tried in front of a black judge!

If I happened to be a judge I would decorate the walls of the courtroom with people hanging from high oak trees, heads locked in a guillotine or blindfolded against a wall waiting for the firing squad. A little fear might go a long way toward preventing future crimes.

Then send him to Africa and let him be tried there.

We are losing one of the most critical features of our Constitutional Republic and that is a Body of Laws under which we are judged by the facts and the law, not "of men" so that we are equal under the Law, not subject to the petty, biased in any way judges or juries.
We are not perfect. We never will be in this world. But we strive to be better. There might be portraits of white jurists, but here's a black man, having his day in court, represented by an attorney or attorneys.
Our Founders, as realists, knew that we would always need to work toward "a more perfect union."
There are racists on the other side of the spectrum who are determined to tear this country to shred.

Total insanity. Just put pictures on the wall of all black inmates who committed murders and rapes so he can feel more at home. Whats happening to our country is sickening.

Just curious, what did Judge Ito have hanging on his walls when he presided over O.J.'s trial? That year-long farce was the beginning of the end of our justice system.

Fairfax County Circuit Court Judge David Bernhard is WHITE!
Should all black defendants insist on black judges?
Should all defendants insist on masked judges?
Should all witnesses appear behind screens?
We don't need no stinking right to face our accusers, do we?
We're much too progressive for that, aren't we?
You're governed by morons,
and you permit it.
You get what you deserve.

While he is at it, why not proclaim that all documents related to the case be printed on black paper, with slightly blacker ink?

This judge is a showboater. He needn't have ruled on the "fair trial" status of the defendant. He should merely order all portraits taken down while he's sitting as judge in that particular courtroom. No need to replace the portraits with anything else. Just leave the walls bare.
