Seattle lawmakers are considering a law that would excuse suspects from most misdemeanor crimes if they can be linked to poverty or mental illness.
If approved, it would make the Emerald City the nation’s first to have such a measure on the books. The Seattle City Council said the proposal, crafted with input from local public defenders, would excuse suspects from minor crimes like theft, trespassing, or assault—but not in cases of domestic violence or driving while impaired, KUOW-TV reported.(Snip) The push comes as crime has spiked in Seattle this year, including during the Capitol Hill Occupied Zone protests

Why isn't being rich a defense ? Rich people have problems too. Ask the Kennedys. Or the Bidens.

How long before that is extended to felonies?

I'm too poor to afford a Ferrari. Obviously Seattle owes me one, so I'll just go up there and take one off the lot.

All part of the global reset to intentionally generate poverty with the government shutdown then when people get desperate just excuse their crimes are due to poverty and let them walk. Promise them income equality and higher taxes on the rich as well as promoting class warfare and demands the rich pay their fair share. Global socialism will be the only solution. Textbook stuff. Works on a good percentage of the mind numbed masses.

Yeah, and the only folks that can't use it are Bill Gates and the fourteen Republicans who haven't left town yet.

If I steal a mansion- you know, just forge the title to my name- which I cannot afford, is that a defense? Do I get to keep the mansion? If I steal an election and my friends are in charge of counting the votes and supervising the election because I can't afford to hire anybody any better, does that mean I get to keep it?

I was pondering the concept of felony vs misdemeanor and how things have been inflated to make so many items felonies. And that will be the argument for including them.
Notice that a DUI is not included. I could argue they shouldn't be that 'big a deal' until it actually harms someone else, I know, it's bad. Many have lost loved ones. And I will save that for some other time.
Anyway, DUI is far too much a money maker for too many people tied to the judicial system. Remember the Courts are supposed to be self funding, the required classes, the tow/storage fees/the lawyers, it all adds up. And each dime does nothing except fill the pockets of those tied to the system.
Full disclosure, I have never been arrested/pulled over for DUI. I am smart enough not to drive while impaired, be it by the radio, a sandwich, a cell phone, or a beer. I don't need a law involved.

Holding someone NOT responsible for their crimes is not compassion and whitewashing crime provides no motivation for changing behavior. It only encourages more crime. True compassion requires holding people accountable but punishment need not be draconian. Three strikes laws indiscriminately applied to trivial misdemeanors is a crime in itself and only breeds hatred. Prison sentences based on such laws ensures future criminal activity.

Why doesn't Seattle give a guaranteed income to everyone? By their belief, that should eliminate all their problems.

Just bring a copy of your ballot proving you voted Democrat and you can do anything. Hillary has known this secret for years.

The criminals will LOVE it!
If anyone has the slightest bit of brains, they will be moving away from their insanity.
But, of course, these fools will never change how they vote, even after running away from the predictable results of their destructive voting for socialists.

Don’t know ‘bout you but I intend to enjoy America’s last Christmas and try not to think too much about what’s about to happen to her and us - 244 years down the crapper.
