The stringent coronavirus restrictions across New Mexico continue to take a toll on residents, particularly the elderly, as Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s (D) orders continue to create what has been dubbed “modern breadlines.”
“Suggested act of kindness- I received a heartbreaking report of an elderly man waiting in line to buy food. He waited so long, he had to publicly relieve himself. If you are able, consider allowing our senior citizens in front of you in line,” New Mexico State Rep. Rebecca Dow (R) said on Thursday. Her update prompted a response from former GOP Senate candidate Elisa Martinez, who has remained a sharp critic of the governor throughout the lockdowns.

They were standing in a line. Here, it 's all drive up. Like Covid testing, you can't walk up, your auto windows must be able to go down.
My state senator only has them in black areas, nobody else counts. Who is in those lines ? The elderly and some moochers who go from one place to another because they are greedy.
Why are the elderly in these lines ? Low income. People who get really sick and have to go on SSDI/SS early are punished. Millions earn under $12k a year.
In the meantime, welfare mothers are getting over $1000 a month in food assistance. The homeless get about $200.

This garbage should never happen in America. Period. But a tip...hit your local pharmacy type chains like Rite Aid, CVS, Walgreens...all carry basic food items and other necessities. No lines. Also, if you have small ethnic markets in the hood, isit those, heck even 7-11s and Circle Ks. Ask friends, neighbors and family to add your items to their lists. Every time I go out, I text my elderly mom (age 89 and yes, we got her a smart phone) and ask what she needs even though she’s still fit to go out shopping and does. Reach out, ask, do.

I need to return a microwave to Walmart, and have driven by there at least 3 times. The line is always too long for a 71 year old man with COPD such as myself to wait in. Just wait until I actually need to shop for food next time. This COVID stuff is ridiculous and I'm really tired of it. It's just a flu that is no more dangerous than that we have every year.

My partner is 69 and he's crippled because metastatic prostate cancer spread into his spine and destroyed several vertebrae. Ever since this crazy COVID stuff, we can never find an open restroom in the stores, gas stations nor fast food restaurants. We also live 25 miles from San Jose where he often has to go for various things. Anyway, I can usually hold my bladder until we get home even though it's often a long ride, but what is someone like my partner supposed to do?? These places don't even make exceptions. Even our veterinary clinic (where we had to take our cat for an emergency visit) wouldn't let him use the restroom after we had to wait a long time for the cat to be seen. This is ridiculous and harder on the elderly and infirmed more than anyone else. Yes, there IS a terrible virus, but we don't need to be doing these stupid lockdowns and limits on businesses. It is killing business, workers and everyone else trying to simply function. And worse, it hurts the vulnerable much more than it supposedly helps.

Maximum of 75 people in a store like Walmart or Costco is absurd. Especially if that includes workers too. 75 people can be in the checkout lines alone on a busy Saturday in those cavernous stores. In many rural areas, a Walmart can be the only grocery store. 300 people could be in such a store and hardly see each other. The NM governor is nuts. She has been draconian from the start and the state’s numbers are still awful.

I live in this wonderful blue state who supported Obama, Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden now this iron fisted feminazi governess is killing us all slowly. My wife needs a knee replacement but it's not going to happen because the surgery is considered not necessary. She has to do all the shopping because I'm house bound and cripple. She had to wait in the cold in line at the grocery/pharmacy a week ago because of this stupid quota in stores. Illegal Mexicans are avoiding this state because there's no future here because of governor Lujan Virus that's the real pandemic in New Mexico. BTW she did her own Nancy Pelosi caught shopping in a jewelry store for turquois jewelry, then a visit to her hair salon which she had them all shut down as non-essential businesses. She's a real piece of work.

Second post here in response to #9 not to be offensive. The state of New Mexico is an oil production state and mostly conservative but three cities vote these people in, the homosexuals in Santa Fe, Mexican population in Albaquriky who have relatives still in Mexico and the liberals is the college progressive city of Las Cruses they all keep this state blue. Trust me outside these cities we vote conservative red but Republicans don't have a voice in the Santa Fe round house.

Re #12 - same here in Virginia: Federal workers and contractors in Northern VA, college students in Charlottesville, and blacks in Richmond and Hampton Roads screw it for the rest of the state.
