A New York City firefighter has been moonlighting as a stuntman—while also raking in a $136,684-a-year disability pension, according to court documents. Firefighter John A. McGinty retired with the lucrative annual payout in 2016 after 25 years with the FDNY. But it turns out McGinty, 58, works as a professional movie stuntman, according to his own LinkedIn page.
McGinty—who also goes by the stage name John Mack—says he is adept at fighting, driving stunts, falls below 30 feet and small fires, according to a profile on management site CMG Talent.(Snip) People who know McGinty blew the whistle

No one working in government should earn a six-figure pension.
Sadly, far too many do, and that group is growing fast. And many will claim with a straight face, "well, we don't get social security checks, you know".
To put it into context, if you have $1,000,000 and earn 5% annual return, that would be $50,000 .So, the government needs to have at least $2 million to payout $100,000, and more if the return is less, or the payment is more.

"People who know McGinty blew the whistle on the stuntman and retired disability pensioner’s double life after seeing The Post’s recent story that nearly all the firefighters who retired last year had annual pensions that topped $100,000, mostly on three-quarter disability. … The FDNY’s practice of awarding of three-quarter disability pensions has been a simmering issue over the years. The Post reported a decade ago about a firefighter who obtained a disability pension for a respiratory illness—then went on to compete in triathlons."

#4, yup. Half the stories of disability fraud from this group never get told. My sister’s ex is a retired fireman with lots of pals retired from big city fire departments. You would not believe it if I told some of the 9/11 stories.

I am so thankful that I have never used the word hero for "first responders".

I'm betting that he won't be collecting that disability for much longer.

You know it doesn't work that way for government #3. They have money invested in their retirement pension funds, but NOWHERE NEAR enough to cover ALL their pension liabilities. So when they fail to earn enough through the market they come right back to the 'source' - the bottomless 'TAXPAYER WELL OF DOLLARS' and WE get it in the backside - AGAIN !!!
If you tried this in the private sector and got caught ( it HAS happened, far too rarely however ! ) the source of your disability income will not only stop your disability payments ( at least until the case works its way through the courts ) but will usually sue for repayment of any and all monies paid out. This is called FRAUD pure and simple and WE get to pay for it !!
That's exactly what should be done to this creep.

Very ridiculous. Most full time employment agreements bar other jobs. Can't the City of NY handle basic employment arrangements. The HR department heads should be fired for this kind of nonsense.

Sounds like fraud, and they are likely to claw that money back.

There are many people out there doing the same thing and nobody does a follow up when an award like this is made. I once knew a truck driver who got 100% disability for a "bad back" but rode a Harley every day.
