The “1619 Project” of the New York Times, which falsely claimed that the American Revolution was fought partly to preserve slavery, has been named to the “Top Ten Works of Journalism of the Decade” by New York University’s journalism school. The Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute announced Wednesday that the “1619 Project” had made the decade’s top ten for “placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of our national narrative.” (Tweet)

At that time, slavery was a world-wide practice and America was one of the first countries ever to abolish it. Why can't they just say "thank you" and shut up? If our Africans had been sent to someplace in the Middle East their current families might still be slaves. You're welcome.

The left always tries to get us to judge yesterday's actions with today's eyes. They want to remove issues from their historical context. #3 is exactly right: Slavery AT THE TIME was a worldwide practice. Nobody knew any better. The focus should be on the fact that America was one of the first countries to abolish it---to understand it was wrong and to do something about it. Shouldn't we learn from these incidents? If we erase history, yes, we can pretend tragic things never happened. Should we rewrite textbooks deleting the name of JFK? Or never mention the Vietnam war? We could have a pure, guiltless history that way...but it would be fantasy. Oh well, we already have fake news---why not fake history?

May as well give the NYT a Nobel Peace Prize, an Oscar, and a statue to be pulled down later. These awards are marks of distinction. Just not the kind of distinction the Left seems to believe they are.

The question is whether the Democrats can block Barrett’s nomination through this ploy.I don’t think they can. A quorum in the full Senate is 51 members. In the Judiciary Committee it’s nine members including two from the minority party.
