Ruminations from Idaho:
Is hope lost?

Original Article

Hope. Americans are in danger of losing hope. When I tried to find out when the cause of this despair, COVID, with all its isolation and lockdowns, would be over, here in Idaho, I was told that it would probably be next spring. Our local board of health has just extended the mask mandate another one hundred days. That is past Christmas. It's like the expression from Dante's Divine Comedy: "Abandon hope all ye who enter here." We are told to learn to live with a new normal. But wait a minute. Are we not admonished to "be strong and of a good courage"?

Thank you, Mr. Hollingsworth and poster. The lines are drawn, and will become more dramatic as the End approaches. Jesus be near us. That is our only hope.

What ever happened to the "Your body, your choice?" Most of the 'Karens' castigating you about your wearing or not wearing a mask, are probably the same feminists that demand that you allow them abortion rights!

COVIDS has been little more than a political scare "based on science" since it emerged with all sorts of lurid accounts, starting with the Chinese burning bodies in the street because they couldn't haul them away. In Italy they were stacking the dead on the curbs like cordwood at night. Hospitals were being crushed by the patient load everywhere in Europe. And Trump was a Xenophobe. Based on outrageous forecasts produced by bad models loaded with inaccurate and inflated data, this has been the most effective propaganda campaign in human history. Millions were going to DIE!! The Karens of the world were effectively frightened, and bullied others into compliance. Challenge the truth of the matter, and one is cast in worse light than Holocaust deniers. The edicts and incessant "public service" hounding, the masks themselves, are worn because the public is trusting and compliant. We are failing the civics exam with flying color.

They're complaining about a mask mandate?! Boo-hoo. We can't even eat at a restaurant, unless sitting at tables set up in diagonal street parking spaces....no thanks. Our county 'health czar' has opted to be more restrictive than Gov. Brylcreem!

More evidence that Breonna Taylor
was living on the dark side

When Breonna Taylor died in a hail of police bullets, she joined the pantheon of Black Lives Matter martyrs, men such as George Floyd, Michael Brown, Jacob Blake, and Trayvon Martin. Initially, she seemed anomalous because she was not engaged in criminal activity or resisting arrest when she died. New evidence, though, shows that, in addition to her relationship with a drug dealing ex-boyfriend (which is what caught the police’s attention), the boyfriend who shot the police was also a drug dealer. Taylor hung out with the wrong people.

The left lives on “narrative.” In other words, it tells stories. It tells stories about race, gender, criminal violence, and a host of other things. Occasionally, these stories intersect with the facts, but more often than not, they don’t. (snip) Georgia H describes how, as a teacher, she was force-fed the narrative about systemic racism in America. However, when Georgia was actually in the classroom, and again when she was working as a nurse, there was a chasm between what she was told and what she knew to be true – and of course, a chasm between what she knew to be true and what she was allowed to say.

There’s a delicate balance between hope and false hope. If we have hope, it’s incredible what we can do. (snip) Democrats are suddenly working hard in Pennsylvania. Or, as a Yahoo report said, “In campaign’s final stretch, Democrats claw their way back in Pennsylvania” – a state in which, according to Real Clear Politics, Biden’s lead averages 7.1%. (snip) If there were a lot of Trump defectors, the media would be profiling them and lionizing them and promoting them 24-7. But I haven't seen a single story about Trump 2016-Biden 2020 defectors.

Yesterday, while campaigning in Nevada, Joe Biden behaved spontaneously and demonstrated that he does not really believe masks offer protection against the spread of Covid-19. The mask mandate that Biden proposes is useful for demagoguing President Trump as a “super spreader” because he does not wear them 100% of the time but only when he is in close proximity to others. The governmental mandates and constant drumbeat of propaganda forcing people to wear masks whenever in public serve to accustom us to automatically do what we are told by government authorities, and symbolize our submission to them, while crippling nonverbal communication

Events are hurtling towards the election with strange and disturbing developments every day. Writers are openly discussing the possibility of a violent coup and civil war. 2020 feels like an unprecedented year, and in this context, a recent threat by Nancy Pelosi sounds particularly ominous. Asked about the possibility of President Trump placing Amy Coney Barrett on the Supreme Court, Pelosi replied, “We have arrows in our quiver that I’m not about to discuss right now.” What might those arrows be? How much damage will they do?

Presidential pollsters have short memories. It was a mere four years ago that most pollsters faceplanted after predicting a Hillary Clinton landslide victory. Rather than humility and introspection after such wildly inaccurate predictions, they have doubled down and may be falling into the same trap of wishful thinking as they did in 2016. Opinion polls are only as good as their samples. Assessing President Trump’s popularity in Boulder versus Sturgis would yield vastly different results based on the population being surveyed.

This was a significant vice-presidential debate because both Mike Pence and Kamala Harris are significantly younger than their presidential running mates. (snip) For leftists, the debate established that Kamala is a fiery black woman and that Pence is a perfect example of toxic white masculinity. In the real world, the debate showed that Kamala can recite prepared lines but lacks subject matter mastery, while Pence never lost control of himself and showed tremendous factual mastery. Pence had a more uphill battle because of Susan Page, the moderator. Her questions for Harris essentially asked what wonderful things she and Biden planned to do to fix the Trump disasters

What should have been a purely scientific response aimed at control and cure of a disease quickly evolved into the political-religious cult of Covidism. Objective scientific analysis of and responses to what is the contagious pathogen COVID-19 were almost immediately suffocated by a plethora of arbitrary pseudo-religious rituals. The capitulation of the churches to rituals radically modifying and even antagonistic to Christian rites may be because the Church, continually rent by internal crises and scandals, did not recognize the rival religion when it appeared.

In my household, the nightly self-administered dose of anxiety commences at dinnertime when my wife switches on MSNBC. As the president blunders through a press briefing leaving behind a trail of disinformation, my spouse invariably delivers an impassioned stream of expletives at the screen. Then we listen to the pundits, who have lately spent a worrisome amount of time commenting on the many devious ways in which our commander-in-chief could lose the election but remain president anyway. San Francisco experienced a 43% year-over-year decline in sales tax revenues during the pandemic, which has been credited to an exodus from the expensive city. San Francisco’s chief economist Ted Egan attributed the drop in revenue that occurred between April and June to a flight of individuals from the city, rather than a decline in activity due to the pandemic. Egan told Fox News that while areas throughout California experienced a decline in sales tax revenues, other cities saw an uptick in online sales – but San Francisco did not.

In mid-2016, the FBI got word that Russian intelligence believed Hillary Clinton’s campaign was planning to frame Donald Trump as colluding with Russia’s Vladimir Putin to hack her computers. Yet somehow, the crack agents never connected the dots when handed the Steele “dossier” commissioned and paid for by the Clinton campaign that claimed Trump was colluding with Putin. Instead, the Justice Department used that dossier as a pretext to spy on at least Trump aide Carter Page as it investigated the clearly spurious charges. Justice also distorted the facts about Page’s past relations with the CIA
