Susan Page believes debates are designed to help voters. To her, they aren't for the news media or the candidates. By that standard, last week's presidential debate didn't make for a particularly good viewing experience. Page, USA TODAY's Washington Bureau chief, presided over Wednesday's vice presidential debate between Mike Pence and Kamala Harris in Salt Lake City. Leading up to the debate, Page said she sought ways to create a different kind of conversation. That task required a more aggressive moderation than she'd planned to allow equal speaking time for both candidates, and she had to cut a planned segment on immigration.

Susan Page needs to buy a STOPWATCH so she can tell when 2 minutes is up-she was CONSISTENTLY cutting off Pence at 1:20, 1:25. She even cut off Pence at the 30 second mark in a 1 minute rebuttal. We will re-elect Trump on Nov 3 not because Pence trounced Harris at the debate but because we don't want to see power restored to a political party that has nothing to offer them American people. The Democrat Party exists to service itself only.

What she means by "helpful for voters" is "convinced them to vote for Kamala for President".

I don't believe she knows just how helpful that debate was. We finally got to see Pence in action and he did a great job. Well done Mr. VP, and great job taking her apart at the seams and standing up to that moderator.

Don't flatter yourself, Susan. Despite your efforts, Pence wiped the floor with Harris.
Better than that smarmy dork Chris Wallace is not exactly a high bar.

Page has always been a Dem partisan, and showed it again last night.

Chris Wallace was clumsily, grossly, biased. Susan Page was a bit more finessed, crafty-- but not much. The Republicans are so stupid to continually agree to hostile moderators....

A 'real' moderator wouldn't have to make up excuses for how they performed. Right now, we are two for two, making excuses.

I watched the entire debate and immediately thought this was a Wallace copycat. I agree with above posters about the time allotted was always in favor of Harris whose dramatic ability fits a Hollywood backlot. What a disgrace she is. Her rudeness with "I'm speaking" repeated showed how dominating and bossy she is. No thanks. The moderator is also writing a biography of Nancy Pelosi. Discrimination???? Nah...the media is disgusting and I don't trust any of them even Fox people except for Tucker.

Thanks Susan. You allowed Harris to show all of us how much she thinks of herself and how she had to “explain” things to her dumbed down followers. Yep, she would fit in well in Hollywood just like Meghan Markle.

Ms Page was pretty forceful in her "mean mama" voice to tell Vice President Pence that his time was up, happily, he ignored most of her demands.
When Ms. Horizontal Harris went over time, there usually was no response from Ms. Page, or at best a meek response of Senator, when you get a chance could you finish up in the next hour or two in a little girl voice.

Pence got 36 minutes, Kamel-face got over 38 minutes - THAT isn't fair.
But it was a certainty that a biased person like Page would NOT be fair, would help the Dem and do her best to harm the Republican. Why is there NEVER a Mark Levin or similar person moderating a debate? I'm sure that they Dems would scream "too partisan", but they are fine with their partisans.

We need two debate moderators.
Susan Page can moderate Mike Pence and ask him questions and interrupt him all she wants.
Newt Gingrich can moderate Kamala Harris. No interruptions required.

All debates, including this one, serve one and only one purpose: prove that a voter's mind is made up beforehand.

My opinion. Ms. Page did a very good job. She surpassed my expectations. She asked both sides tough questions, fairly asserted control and stood down when the participant would not heed. She did not become the center of attention like Wallace.

I thank Susan Page for embarrassing Kamala as she insisted on a rebuttal and then simply recited points she had just made! To her credit, Page called her out on that. Susan Page was far and away more professional than Chris Wallace.

Regarding the packing of the Supreme Court, the GOP are once again missing an opportunity. You would think they'd take advantage of the situation and propose a constitutional amendment (before the election!!!) to freeze the number at 9 justices - but nooooooo, can't even think of something as simple as that.

Page has been one of Bret Baier's panel members many times. She is always a strong Dem advocate. She had no business moderating that debate.
I would suggest this solution to the moderator problem. Trump selects a questioner for Biden, Biden selects a questioner for Trump. Sure, they will be biased.....but Trump already has a biased questioner, and Biden gets a free walk and a wingman helping him out. My way, Biden gets asked hard questions and Trump gets asked the same hard questions. Win for fairness.
