Wells Fargo chief executive Charles Scharf exasperated some black employees in a Zoom meeting this summer when he reiterated that the bank had trouble reaching diversity goals because there was not enough qualified minority talent, two participants told Reuters. He also made the assertion in a company-wide memo June 18 that announced diversity initiatives as nationwide protests broke out following the death of George Floyd, an unarmed African American man, in police custody. “While it might sound like an excuse, the unfortunate reality is that there is a very limited pool of black talent to recruit from,” Scharf said in the memo,

Oooooooh my! You can't say that. It may be true and you might have to fire over fifty percent of your diversity hires due to a whole boatload of reasons of which I could supply a bunch, but you can't say that.

There is a limited pool of QUALIFIED black talent. The black qualified black talent that is available is snapped up by HR Departments eager to show how virtuous and diverse their company is. Unfortunately, too many "black" people still feel that going to school and becoming educated and successful in business is being too "white" and not a part of their "culture". This is a "culture" that needs to be changed if black people / employees wish to legitimately move up the ladder in the corporate world.

It's culturally more acceptable for black males to shoot hoops than to be a grind in the library and go for an MBA, unless they are already in a 'talented tenth' family. At about 10% of the population, there IS a numerical shortage. Many of those black males also come from the West Indies and Nigeria.
If you notice, black women tend to fill the more traditional female slots of marketing, PR, community outreach, and occasionally finance. These areas allow for some semblance of family life and pay well. Some in healthcare do make it to the top level. And many talented women start their own firms, because the corporate rat race doesn't suit them.
Unfortunately, the Wells Fargo CEO just started the road to his forced retirement even bringing up the subject.

Maybe if blacks quit thinking that doing well in school is “acting white”...

Don't want to appear too white. After all participating in your own education is just a white thing. Rutgers did say that speaking and writing correctly in English is racist. I hope this guy enjoys his retirement.

Last year, I went to an emergency room at one of the supposedly finest hospitals in the world. I was treated by an affirmative action doctor, who asked the wrong questions, couldn't comprehend what I was telling her and wanted to perform a somewhat dangerous -- and very unnecessary -- test on me. What did I do? For the first time in my life, I walked out of the hospital. I'm not going to be PC when my health is on the line.
Here's a dirty little secret in the black community. They know about the drawbacks of affirmative action and for that reason, many blacks avoid black doctors.

You referred indirectly to the main reason, #5. Black mommies and daddies are rarely found in the same house.

As our economy becomes more and more information and knowledge based, this is going to get worse. In a nation of over 300 million how many blacks annually score over 1400 in their SAT each year? Hint - Michelle 0bama wasn't one of them!

Talent and Affirmative Action is an Oxymoron. A Specialized Institution or an organization will be forced to hire a black idiot to comply with the policy like Wells Fargo.

Commies like to tell you how many people to hire and what they are suppose to do.
The CEO of Wells Fargo needs to shut up and fill their quotas. This has nothing to do with running a business.

He must have failed to look at all the rehabilitated bank robbers and other Black criminals who are being released from prison these days. No doubt they would love to work in Wells Fargo Banks, and besides they know how to count money.

The large company I work for requires bachelors degrees for almost every job beyond line workers. Why would a Procurement Specialist (i.e., buyer) need a 4-year degree? The reason, an HR professional once told me, is that this keep the company out of trouble with the EEOC. If colleges aren't turning out a large pool of black graduates then it's not the employer's fault that all the applicants for a position are of another color.

Mothers generally do not teach children about work. And for sure, public schools do not teach students about work. Black boys need fathers.

I earned both a B.S. and an MBA in business administration. I could count the number of black classmates in just about any class on the fingers of one hand. I don't know what they major in, but it isn't business.

High comedy. Basketball and football teams find no shortage of qualified bLACK players, so why can't Wells Fargo, as a modest first step, create a basketball or football team, or maybe a motor vehicles department office?
