As the Holy War concerning filling Justice Ginsburg’s seat begins in earnest, one question which the Republican side and President Trump should certainly pose, is what would the Democrats do if the situation were reversed? (snip) here is a suggestion for how Collins and Murkowski can live with their decision to not vote for a nominee (snip) both Senators should abstain from the vote for confirmation if it is held before Election Day. If their opposition is to the timing and not the nominee, why should they vote no? Both Senators have made clear their opposition is to the timing.

What is with these two? While I am irked by Collins (she is a wimp) , Murkoswski (a Nancy Pelosi harpie) is a real piece of work. Trump is president until the inauguration in January 2021. RBG died on his watch (sorry, Ruthie, but your last wishes do not apply to proper Presidental procedure) and it is within his job description to nominate her replacement. Yes, you don't like it, I wouldn't either if I was you. But suck it up and stop acting like he is pulling a fast one. You would do the exact same thing if you held the presidency and the senate. And to Nancy Pelois, impeachment, again, really? This woman needs to return to CA and her expensive chocolate ice cream.

If Ginsburg was so brilliant and great as a judge on the supreme court she should know that the President picks Supreme Court judges,,,,not former Supreme Court judges or crazy left wing democrats.

Collins is our Senator and while I have always voted for her, the alternative this year is impossible. She is not loyal to the Senate and is very stubborn. She is losing right now here in Maine, and it would be wise for her to support our president. She considers herself an Independent so why doesn’t she run as one? I don’t know if she’ll win this election as many people here in ME think she is a traitor. Then we’re stuck with another democrat in her opponent who is a very dangerous power hungry politico. She has the voice of a “valley girl” enough to drive you nuts!!! I don’t think I can vote for Collins after all this. She’s destructive trying to play both sides!

I don't agree! I think they were voted into office by Republicans, so they owe it to those Voters to confirm a Conservative to the Court. I don't care that Collins and Murkowski don't think it's proper to vote so soon. Don't they understand what is going to happen on Nov. 3rd? It will most likely be the Supreme Court who will decide this Election and we can't have a 4-4 Court at that time. We need a new Justice confirmed by Election Day! If Collins or Murkowski don't vote with their Party they don't deserve to be in the Senate. I think they will Both lose their upcoming elections if they don't do what their voters sent them to Washington to do! I know Murkowski isn't up this year, but voters have long memories when it comes to something as important as confirming a SP Justice!

She's my U.S. Senator. I want her to vote for the SC nominee!

#4. You can't be serious! Sara Gideon, Collins' Dem opponent, will do exactly what Schumer/Soros tell her to do.. just like Angus King does. Collins may be "bad", but she's from Maine and love the American people. You MUST vote for her and, if you don't like her, then work at nominating someone who can win who appeals to you for 2026.

both Collins/Murkowski have now registered their opinions about voting before the election. fine. but when the vote comes up they still have a constitutional duty to 'advise and consent' on the nominee, not the process.

The timing is critical. Not just because of Murkowski, Collins, and Romney, but because of the ZonaDrama sitting right in everyone's face. In 2018, Martha McSally (R, AZ) was appointed, not elected, to replace John McCain. She's now running in a Special Election to see who will serve the rest of McCain's term. McSally's opponent is Mark Kelly, former astronaut and Gabby Gifford's husband. He's ahead by double digits in every poll. The winner of this race will be seated and ready to vote by NOV 30---not JAN as all the other Senate candidates.
Think about the timing from that aspect alone. The vote on replacements will have to be carefully navigated while McSally is still a Senator because the GOP will likely lose 1 more seat when Kelly is seated in NOV.
These are unprecedented times. Not all majority leaders are created equal so we're especially lucky that we seem to have the right person in place at the right time. McConnell is a master at procedure and execution. If anyone can steer us through this field of landmines, he's the guy who can.

Someone needs to have a very stern “Come to Jesus” talk with both of them very soon.

McCain's Maverick tendencies live on with Collins, Murkowski and Romney. None of them can be trusted. They like the drama and attention associated with being an uncommitted member of their team.
History will record that like McCain, their service will not be fondly remembered.

Investigate them--find a reason to remove from office. There must be plenty to find in their past. They agree with the DEMS too often to be clean.

Collins and Murko need to be sat down in kindergarten chairs and be spoken to in very threatening words what their behavior will bring to the country if they refuse to do their jobs at this critical juncture and vote to confirm. Keep an eye on their bank accounts for evidence of any payolla. Meanwhile, I see that Pierre Delecto is taking a lower profile and keeping some distance from them...hmmm.

Seems to me that if they abstain, then the Repubs would be ahead 51 - 47, depending on how other RINOs decide to vote.

Sorry for the second post. According to Robert's Rules of Order, abstentions are counted and noted, but not as a “yes” or “no” vote.

What's the point of winning an election if you are not going to stand on the platform that got you elected? These two "Republicans" think they won DESPITE support of Republican voters. How come Democrat Senators are NEVER so weak?

Collins and Murkowski should drop dead from the advanced brain rot that is so clearly eating away at their brains. I had my fill of those two morons during impeachment. Im sending a check to Collins opponent, I've never given money to a Democrat before.but Collins is just too stupid and too evil to have an (R) next to her name. Same goes for the Alaskan Hatchet Face.
