A recent article in The Atlantic tells us that the pandemic has families leaving the public school system in droves and embracing homeschooling. This shift, we are told, may be permanent. From the article:“Homeschooling families, which included roughly 3 percent of school-age children in the United States in 2016, have lots of different reasons for wanting to educate their own kids. But they’re united in a common assessment: They want out of the traditional system. The question is whether COVID-19 will cause a temporary bump in homeschooling as parents piece together their days during the pandemic or mark a permanent inflection point in education

Great! We get to teach our kids the basics and scrap the leftist propaganda. Should have done this long ago. Parents have control, not faceless beurocrats.

FTA: " . . . the school system has let the truth slip: we don’t actually need it. Society can function without it."
Finally! Finally - - someone other than myself has realized that government involvement in education is the real problem. The only solution - - as I posted in the previous thread - - is to end all government ownership, operation, or subsidization of schools. Let the free market decide when, where, what, and how children - - and adults - - are educated. Free markets TROUNCE socialism every time. L-Dotters - - of all people - - should realize this and fight to completely end government schools.
Thank you, Matt Walsh - - I am not alone - - I am not alone!

Public schools are "day care centers" more than anything. That's the big whine, that parent(s) doesn't have the time or ability to teach or manage their kids at home. What the kids learn at school...
Parents demanded schools teach their kids "values" and now they have that. Problem was/is that many have discovered those values don't comport with theirs. They elect teacher union dominated school boards filled with "education activists". Now they get what was demanded. As Mencken said, they deserve to get what they wanted good and hard.

This is a silver lining coming out of the covid hoax; an (I'm sure) unintended consequence that the left didn't see coming. They are short-term thinkers.....when they think at all.
I do not have school age kids but I have noticed numerous signs along the roads pointing parents to alternative schooling choices available to them. One is posted outside one of our local middle schools which has closed again temporarily due to two covid cases.
I'd be willing to bet that a good number of parents are taking steps to look into alternatives.
May the school bell toll for the death of the public school system....not to mention teachers unions.

This is a great reset opportunity. Leftists believe anything government belongs to them, and they can use it however they please. These fools have babies as young as three years old under their control.

Leftists have made the government schools into enemy propaganda indoctrination centers. Shut them ALL down. Give the parents right to direct the tax funds now wasted on NEA horror shows to any private school that they choose.

we don't need the public school system as it is administered today. it is a shameful exhibition of using propaganda and tidbits of facts to demonstrate that the United States is the worst country ever to exist, in the history of mankind. communists are foaming at the mouth thinking that they will someday control this country. they forget that this is a very big country and can only be governed with the consent of the governed. that's us!! I'm not ready for that and I don't think there are many of us who are ready for that.

The biggest impediment to decent educations for our kids has always been tenure and the unions. Both work tirelessly and very expensively to hinder parents being able to clean up their local districts. Get rid of tenure and make teaching merit based again. This profession should never be allowed to ever protect the rotten, incompetent or the bullies of that profession ever again.

America's children would be better served if government schools ceased to exist. Remove all taxpayer money from government "education" at every level.

My niece recently moved to NC and was very unhappy with the government schools. We send some money to them each month to subsidize their Christian homeschooling system that they are now doing. Fortunately, both my nieces now have their kids out of government schools. One more nephew to head in that direction, but that may be a problem, his wife is a school teacher. But it is SC, so perhaps the schools will hang on a bit longer teaching the right stuff.

Public education was actually excellent, PRIOR to the federalization of it and the creation of teachers' unions, thanks to Jimmah Carter. It's no wonder curriculum has become so politically biased and corrupt. This article shows that the unions are irrelevant to getting children educated. I hope enough parents are realizing this, that their children are enjoying the many benefits from actually learning something, and break away from the quagmire of the federal system.
