Days before the crucial Republican primary in South Carolina in 2016, Sen. Tim Scott and then-Gov. Nikki Haley rallied for Sen. Marco Rubio in a desperate effort to slow down the Trump train. The image of the three young stars was seen as a glimpse into the future of the Republican Party that most insiders argued needed to appeal to a demographically changing American electorate.
Four years later, Scott and Haley appeared before the mostly virtual Republican convention to endorse President Trump, who had been formally nominated for a second term earlier in the day, unopposed. And Haley and Scott both felt the need to come to terms

If the GOP rejects President Trump's accomplishments, there will be no future for them.

Perhaps these three are simply wanna-be's, who grab whatever protective cloaking they think will advance their personal ambitions.

I'm "triggered" by one small comment by Scott, not at all a criticism of him nor Trump mind you. There is something terribly wrong when you need to open up an "opportunity zone" to help struggling people. The entire country as it was founded was an opportunity zone. So what makes the areas outside of opportunity zones not such and what do we need to do to restore the entire nation? You'll find thousands of nitpicking regulations and other unconstitutional restraints that offer patronage employment and corruption opportunity instead of real opportunity for the commoners. Just like when you need to offer tax breaks to attract business and somehow that doesn't illuminate the problem.

Sounds encouraging, doesn't it, and it would be even more so with the help of the numb-nut rinos in congress -- they literally make me sick !!

The Examiner has ALWAYS been a Never-Trump source, and they are sticking with it. Don't waste your time on this drivel.

I don’t know much about Scott, but I know that I do not trust th politically ambitious Haley or Rubio.
I trust Pence, but he doesn’t inspire, and I trust CRUZ.

The poor Washington Examiner, "Whether or not Trump pulls off another upset in November, or gets trounced, his influence on the Republican Party is likely to be felt well after he leaves office.", I can almost hear the sad sigh after the statement.
One thing all these sad sack Never Trumpers can't face is that Trump is not really a "changer", he is a restorer of America. Yes, he advocates change from recent times where Republicans had become almost indistinguishable from dems and America was drifting into Socialism. Trump is returning to America's roots and that wonderful idea seems radical against the twisted America that it had become through many decades of abuse and corruption.
The American People had become somewhat lazy over a couple hundred years. Having won themselves a nation, fighting to keep it united, and fighting 2 world wars to preserve the ideals of freedom, they thought they had a pretty good handle on things. But evil and corruption never rest. They are defeated by vigilance and vigor. Americans, having things very nice thank you, didn't want to face another rise of evil or the battle required to vanquish it. But that is what it takes from time to time and Trump has shown us the evil that exists, the way to fight it, and the reality that evil is often weaker than it seems when confronted. We just need the call and the courage. Trump is providing that and bringing to life a new generation of Patriots willing to fight the battle.
We need new guards at the gate. Congress has abdicated its responsibilities to make law, turning things over to the unelected bureaucracy to "fill in the blanks". Our courts have acquired the toxic idea that they are lawmakers above both the President and Congress and fixers of societal wrongs when their job is simply to arbitrate enforcement or clear confusion over existing laws. Our bureaucracy is broken; it doesn't serve our elected leaders or the People and carries out corrupt and illegal actions with NO effective oversight. Our media/"entertainers" are propagandists of the Left not providers of factual information. Our schools are corrupted by liberal teachers that indoctrinate instead of educate. Our scientists have become paid agents of the state instead of independant explorers seeking reality. Our churches have become political groups instead of groups to worship and humble ourselves before God. Truth has become fungible and "fact checkers" enforcers of Leftist orthodoxy.
We need alternatives for all these elements or HARD rules to keep what is there (for example, the bureaucracy) in check. We need continued vigilance beyond Trump or the government.

#7 - Excellent essay, as always. I'm as confident of a Trump second term as I was he would win in 2016. Last night's opening for the RNC convention was just confirmation. President Trump has already remade the Republican Party, the traitor wing of the Uniparty is still in denial but that will be swept away on November 4th.

I, too, mistrust Haley and Rubio. A lot! Mike Pence is a very nice bore, and for all his brilliance, Cruz lacks the ability to connect with his audience. Tim Scott is probably a member of the GOPe, which would mean business as usual if he were elected. Obviously, we need to look farther afield. Tom Cotton and Rick DeSantis have potential, but can they maintain the momentum? I guess time will tell.

#6 - Cruz doesn't inspire either. His 2016 run was a disaster.
Trump needs to get Kristi Noem front and center after the election and run with her. Clearly the best follow-on but the establishment will never allow it if given the keys to 2024. DC experience? Check. Governorship? Check. Values? Double check. A couple of years of grooming and she'll be a lock.

Not an American here but if I was I’d be looking for a Ric Grenell / Kristi Noem partnership in 2024.
