This year could end with a bang.Scientists recently spotted an asteroid on a direct collision course to Earth — projected to hit a day before the presidential elections in November. The flying space object, known as 2018VP1, is expected on Nov. 2, according to the Center for Near Objects Studies at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The asteroid is 6.5 feet in diameter, according to NASA data, and first identified at the Palomar Observatory in California two years ago. The space agency says there could be three potential impacts “based on 21 observations spanning 12.968 days,

Six and a half feet? I was worried just for a couple of eye-blinks there. That will most likely burn up and hit the ground as dust. If it was six and a half miles, then we’re talking.

Wow, killer hornets and COVID 19 didn't work. Let's try a baby asteroid.

Never mind. This was handled nicely by the first four posters. Good morning 1, 2, 3, 4...you are bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and right on this morning.

The size described is very small. Others of that size easily burn up in the atmosphere. That is the good news, but of course, it gives the illusion that our doom is sealed!
Time for levity, with apologies to Hee Haw--sing along!
Gloom, despair and agony on me!

If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all--

I don't know how a 6 ft. meteor qualifies as an asteroid. It would either burn up or be whittled down to the size of a nice souvenir.

This is like trying to safely bring in Apollo 13..."Flight, we have a meteor coming in the prime recovery zone. Should we tell them?...Anything they can do about it?... No...Then they don't need to know about it...Copy that."

"...the chance of impact is less than 1%." And no way that they can accurately predict where it will hit, if it does.
OK, 99% unlikely to hit Earth at all. Far less likely to hit any particular person. Ignore.

Our media is trying to create another panic. Beginning to think they like doing that.
Once again reminded of the first 'Men In Black' movie where an alien battle cruiser is threatening to blow up the Earth. The one agent wants to warn the world, and the other immediately stops him. Why? Because there is always something threatening to destroy the world, and the only way people can get on with their lives is if they don't know.
CV19 and this cosmic pebble are the same thing. There will always be another virus or asteroid threatening to kill millions of humans. Sometimes the best course of action is to handle the problem quietly without drawing any attention to it.
Seriously, look how much damage CV19 has caused when the media and our government ran with it the way they did. All of that could have been avoided. All previous virus were handled that way, but CV19 wasn't because people wanted to use it to get Trump.

The Chelyabinsk meteor/asteroid was 10 times the diameter, so 1,000 times as massive, assuming similar density material. The Chelyabinsk event caused a LOT of broken glass, some cracked walls and such, but the biggest damage was due to the bright flash causing auto/truck accidents by blinding/frightening drivers.
More a scary boom-flash than any real threat. Most injuries due to flying glass and auto accidents.
This is a nothing-burger. 1,000 times less mass than this:
