Cashiers at the Chipotle restaurant chain have been rounding off customers’ tabs a little too well, according to a lawsuit. Corporate bosses are likely behind the move, a lawyer told the station.
“It has become very clear that this is a top-down directive from the corporation, this is how they should handle the situation,” Frank Salpietro said.
Some of the chain’s locations in Pennsylvania have been keeping the change by hundreds of thousands of dollars, the suit claims, KDKA-TV of Pittsburgh reported.
The state attorney general’s office has received at least seven complaints, reports said.

Just another reason not to eat at Chipotle. Not only do you get food poisoning from this restaurant they steal from you. Never ate at one of their restaurants; never will.

Doesn't Kevin from Shark Tank own a piece of this chain?

Me, too, #3. I've had many confrontations with the cashiers at some places, one of whom argued with me that I was the very first person who had ever asked for her penny back (a 19.99 carwash paid for with a twenty). You're right. It's my money.

What's going on with the US Mint and Federal Reserve that has caused the coin shortage?

In the examples in the article, they always rounded up in favor of Chipotle. I actually don't mind rounding, but if it's $.50 or less how 'bout rounding in favor of the customer. That way it all evens out - unless they jiggle their prices and sales tax to make sure it's always $.50 or greater.

Which is why I always use a credit card. I don't have to worry about change or carrying around cash that attracts thieves and robbers. Even if the card is stolen, I'm not responsible for unauthorized purchases. I also use a card with a low credit limit, just in case.

Around our house we have a coin jar that accumulates a LOT of change. Next time I visit Chipotle I think i will solve their change problem . They better be prepared to count a lot of coins for my tab , it will be the exact amount.

On our first visit to Disney world with our children, we had lunch at a Rain Forest cafe.
The overpriced meal was OK, but when our waitress rang up the meal, and she brought the receipt thing back for my signature, I noticed that 15% had been added to my bill, for a tip, and that there was an additional space for a tip.
And with unmeasurable chutzpah, the waitress asked if I wanted my change.

Let ALL the facts come out. All we have here is the case from the prosecution.

I don't know if it's a hoax but a receipt from a grocery chain showed a surcharge on the top for .59 cents (donation) to BLM. You could have it removed but you have to catch it. If stores and restaurants start this it's best to check your tabs before walking away.
News like Chipotla doing this is not good for business I'll never eat there.

I've asked many cashiers over the last few weeks - including those standing behind the sign taped to the plastic barrier by the managers - if they've been experiencing a "change shortage." Nope, they haven't. Is this another blame-Trump-who-can't-even-run-the-U.S.-Mint conspiracy?
Another disturbing new practice: Fast-food joints with the card reader on the counter that ask you for a tip amount before the server turns around to move your pre-wrapped order from the food warmer into a bag. At least one of the options is "none" which is always my selection.

"...when you hide behind a coin shortage to justify taking more money than you should." Blah blah blah. That's how lawyers talk. They just make stuff up.
We like their burritos and go to Chipotle a lot. Our local one sometimes has a sign up saying "no cash". Maybe the "coin shortage" is what that's about. As far as I'm concerned, they can keep the change, coins are just a nuisance these days. Kind of like the old Green Stamps, you have to save them up and take them in (to a Coinstar) for redemption. They're not good for much of anything else.

I had a coupon for a free meal at Chipotle. Not impressed! Food is kept in big (pig) troughs. Easy to contaminate.
Also they had high tables and bar height chairs. I don't like my feet to tangle. I had to take my food home to eat.

The coin change dispenser at our local Panda Express has been shortchanging often. Keep your eye on those things at whatever business uses them.

Kroger has been doing this, apparently because of a coin shortage, but they credit it to your shopping card.

Some people just don't want my business and it's okay. Never been in Chipotle..
GoodWill has been asking if you want to 'round up' for years. No, you overcharge already.
About a month ago, I made a quick stop in 7-11 and they had a sign saying "If you don't have exact change, use a debit card" Not in all 7-11's, so is it the franchise owner's scam ?
