Some bad breath just can’t be covered up.
Now that dentists have reopened their doors, they’re having patients show up with a nasty set of symptoms, which the doctors have dubbed “mask mouth.”
The new oral hygiene issue — caused by, you guessed it, wearing a mask all the time to prevent the spread of the coronavirus — is leading to all kinds of dental disasters like decaying teeth, receding gum lines and seriously sour breath.
“We’re seeing inflammation in people’s gums that have been healthy forever, and cavities in people who have never had them before,”

Wearing a mask tends to increase mouth breathing ( instead of breathing thru the nose)
This is a mess. In no way should people have to wear a mask for hours a day.
Mouth breathing causes dry mouth & less saliva. Saliva fights bacteria and cleanses teeth.
Saliva neutralizes acid in the mouth & helps prevent tooth decay and gum disease.
While masked up people get dehydrated as they drink less water (& may drink more coffee etc.)
To counter these effects: Drink more water - Cut down on caffeine - Use a humidifier to moisten the air - Use an alcohol-free mouthwash - Scrape your tongue - Don’t smoke - Breathe through your nose! Best yet - don't wear a mask!

Mask mouth is not a problem in my household. When at the stores, we only follow the mask-wearing thing long enough to get what we need to keep store management happy, and then once back at the car, off it goes to inside my Cubs hat which is always on my head. Probably isn't the smartest thing to do on a hot day, but, oh well.

Anyone wearing a mask should change it every day. The moisture from breath creates a haven for bacteria growth. Masks do not stop penetration by bacteria, or virus, but creates a nice environment for them.
Like another poster, I wear a mask only when required by the facility. So far, only doctor's offices. Retail establishments requiring masks have not benefitted from my patronage.
After being told that wearing a mask is like trying to stop mosquitos with a chain link fence, why bother, unless you have a cough or need to sneeze. Then, just cover your mouth with a hanky.

1) This is a crock! The mask wearing has not been a directive for months. Just a few weeks. In most places, only a couple of weeks. This is a bucket of poop! For $$$$$. 2) When 99% of people wear a mask they are not wearing it for hours on end. They only wear it when going into a public place. FEW wear it all day. Even those in public spaces have opportunities to lift the mask. What a load of poop! 3) NO ONE needs to spend a bunch of time on all the procedures for how to fight mouth breathing, bacteria, oral hygiene. 4) What it does highlight is that most of us egotistical, self absorbed, snowflakes have come face to face with the real truth: your breath stinks, you don't breathe correctly, and you are a moron IF you wear your mask in the car, or walking alone, or exercising, or all day long. Oh vapors!

The original guidelines on masks still makes sense. Only people with active symptoms and those providing care should wear masks. For others it is not only useless but harmful.

#4 Please note that 'essential' workers, like in grocery stores & at factories making PPE & other needed products have had to wear masks at work all the time since March. Cafe & restaurant workers wear masks all day at work. Retailers in order to open have mandated their employees wear masks since June. Lots of people who work are having to wear masks more than 10 hours a day - and they likely have only one clean mask a day. On top of that - if you live in NYC - you have to wear a mask outside. If you don't there is a huge $$$ fine and worse some Karen will come & lecture you or fling herself against a wall, screaming that she is being assaulted by the breath coming out of your bare face.

Funny how there were no mask mandates at the height of the scamdemic.

You nailed it #6. I carry a pile of masks in my car along with hand sanitizer. I only wear a mask when entering a store where required. When I get back to the car I sanitize my hands and then take the mask off. The one I used gets tossed in the laundry when I get home.
The whole thing is stupid. Our governor has mandated masks indoors and business establishments have posted on their doors the masks are mandatory for service. I do not have the option to go to another store for what I need as the requirement is for all stores.

If wearing masks were as effective as some believe, why hasn't it been standard practice during flu season? Darn old side effects. All the holy mask wearers should hear about this!

I can barely tolerate the amount of time I have to wear a mask it takes to go grocery shopping. Don't know how anyone can wear facemasks for long periods of time. I don't know how the medical industry copes. Different masks?
This is just another reason why what is being done to combat covid is simply not sustainable. The facemasks are one example. Another is social distancing. Third has been the lockdowns. THIS CANNOT BE THE NEW NORMAL. It doesn't matter what the talking heads on TV are saying be they government, media, or medical.

It is 95 degrees out in Texas. Go from outside to inside an a/c store and it takes only a minute or so before you have a wet mask from mouth breathing and sweat running off your forehead. For older Americans who are sucking all the air they can get, the masks inhibit breathing, and can cause a person to faint. Where is Johnny Paycheck to tell the government and the store CEO's where to take their masks and shove them?

Yesterday, I saw this adorable little girl, about two years old, walking down the street with her mother, wearing a mask, and I thought that there is something wrong with this picture. Any doctor knows it is a bad idea for adults to never breathe out toxins, but especially for the little ones.

Fortunately, I don't wear a mask beyond 5 minutes or so at at time when I absolutely have to go get something at a store. I NEVER wear one otherwise.

Going to my dentist in a few days, but this won't be a problem. I wear a mask perhaps 5 minutes every second or third day when I absolutely cannot get out of it.
