5,000 Burmese pythons
removed from Florida Everglades

Florida wildlife officials announced last week that 5,000 invasive Burmese pythons have been removed from the delicate Everglades ecosystem since setting up elimination programs three years ago. Teams with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) worked together to reach the milestone effort, the agencies said in a statement on Tuesday. SFWMD Governing Board Member “Alligator Ron” Bergeron called the milestone “another win for the Everglades.” “Every snake counts,” he said. “Each invasive python eliminated represents hundreds of native Florida wildlife saved.”

It’s a good start, as the old joke asks “What do you call a bus load of lawyers that falls off the bridge and sinks into the river?”

There should be a bounty on them. IF I lived nearby there, I'd be a python hunter whether they paid me or not. I saw one cut up for the table on a TV show that didnt last long, I think it was called the butcher. Looked like good eating to me.

The " “Every snake counts” quote is a keeper. Someone should combine it with another popular quote and double down on virtue signaling--with a T-shirt that proclaims: "Black Lives Matter -- Every Snake Counts"

Snakes are the "companion animal" for potheads. They get too big for the potheads and to the swamp they go.

Probably just a very small percentage of the Burmese Pythons that are now inhabiting that swamp.

Pay better bounties, and you'll get rid of more of these damned things. Should be absolutely BANNED as pets, none in pet shops.

This article was written to support the jobs of Park Rangers. Those guys know perfectly well that they can't just zoom around the Everglades, and collect snakes. If you look at the dumb website of the "Everglades Foundation" you'll get some nonsense about tax returns. Those freeloaders aren't going to list their actual salaries. https://evergladesfoundation.org/support-us/give-a-gift-today/financial-info/ The whole thing is a scam. The Everglades can't be "managed". The only thing we can do is put a big fence around the place, and then leave it alone. Forever.

‘Defund the Police’ is a media fantasy 13 replies

A new, exhaustive study by Gallup and the Knight Foundation found that Americans across the board are losing trust in the media. Some people might be shocked by this finding, but I suspect more people will be shocked to learn that the media had any trust left to lose. Either way, I think a separate poll conducted by Gallup might illuminate the problem. If you’ve paid any attention to the news, particularly cable news, over the last couple of months since George Floyd’s killing by police in Minneapolis, you might think “defunding” or “abolishing” the police is a widely held and even somewhat mainstream desire.

A convoy consisting of thousands of bikers headed for a South Dakota rally will not be allowed to cross Cheyenne River Sioux checkpoints on their way to the event, according to a Native American spokesman. The spokesman said Saturday that the band of travelers would be stopped on their way to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, in the name of preventing coronavirus from spreading any further. The seven tribes that make up the Sioux Nation are now in a fight with federal and state officials, who deemed such checkpoints to be illegal.

The Babylon Bee reported last week that presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden said he couldn’t wait to find out who he’d picked for a running mate. Neither can we because the element of truth underlying the Bee’s report is Ol’ Joe’s not-so-great cognitive abilities indicates that if the Dems take the White House, Biden’s vice president could quickly become president. The political pressure to create the first female president of the United States will be overwhelming, perhaps enough to dump Biden in his first year in office.

Hillary Clinton joined the chorus of Democrats blasting President Trump’s executive orders on Saturday – calling them “a stunt” and “unconstitutional.” Clinton, the 2016 Democrat presidential nominee, weighed in on Trump’s executive orders during an appearance on MSNBC’s “AM Joy.” “It's a stunt,” she said. "There's no doubt about it, it's most likely, as even Republican senators have said, unconstitutional, bypassing the Congress, trying to spend money that he has no authority to direct."

Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown has urged Sen. Kamala Harris to "politely decline" a spot on Joe Biden's ticket if the 2020 presumptive Democratic nominee chooses her as his running mate. In an op-ed headlined "Brown: Kamala Harris should say no to vice presidency" published by the San Francisco Chronicle on Saturday, Brown, who has openly discussed his past extramarital relationship with Harris, urged her to reject the vice presidency and request instead to be considered for the role of attorney general in a Biden administration. "Harris is a tested and proven campaigner who will work her backside off to get Biden elected," Brown wrote.

Hillary Clinton leveled a jocular broadside against New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd on Saturday, pointing out that the writer appeared to forget wholesale that Clinton chose a man to run as her vice president during the 2016 election. Writing on the 1984 vice presidential candidacy of Geraldine Ferraro ahead of Joe Biden's announcement of a female running mate, Dowd in a Saturday column wrote that it had been "36 years since a man and a woman ran together on a Democratic Party ticket." That claim ignored the 2016 presidential election,
Why are black Americans likelier

Only part of the dramatic racial differences in age-adjusted COVID-19 death rates can be explained by racial differences. The remainder reflects a substantially lower black survival rate because, we are told, of poverty and inadequate access to healthcare. Once taking into account Latino outcomes, however, these factors alone are unlikely to explain the lower black survival rate. Why are the outcomes for Latinos so much better than for black Americans? There is no comprehensive national measure of cases by race and ethnicity. The CDC has estimates for only 57 percent of national cases. Using these partial estimates, together with population data,

Coming soon to a screen near you is an intriguing and creative new film documentary on Donald Trump, and yours truly and The American Spectator is here offering the first glimpse, courtesy of the talented filmmaker, Robert Orlando. The film is calledCitizen Trump, inspired, yes, by Citizen Kane. Here’s the parallel that Orlando plays out: In 1941, the story of a powerful, larger-than-life, media-driven business tycoon would emerge on the silver screen in a groundbreaking film. The film was a morality tale of the mogul’s bid for high office. The story was Citizen Kane, and the real-life portrait captured in the film was that of William Randolph Hearst.

Florida’s hanging chads from the 2000 Bush vs Gore contest will look like a walk in the park compared to what it will take to declare a winner this year. COVID-19 has completely upended how votes are cast and counted. It is inevitable that in competitive states such as Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania delays will happen in getting to the final tally. This is why it is so critical that election officials, starting with Secretaries of State, make it convenient to vote and put in place proper safeguards from the start.

Instead, this source said, the interview will mainly consist of technical questions. At first glance, Joe Biden's strategy of avoiding the spotlight is paying off. He maintains his consistent lead over Donald Trump in national polls. In June, in the aftermath of the Lafayette Park fiasco, his advantage in the RealClearPolitics average expanded to 10 points. The critical swing states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Florida are trending his way. His lead gives him the freedom to mollify the progressive wing of his party by shifting leftward on policy. (Snip)There is no question that President Trump is in trouble. But look again at the polls.

You know there’s an election this summer because every time you greet a neighbor on the street saying, “It’s a nice day,” he answers irritably with whatever random information he just read in the press: “But what about the damn unemployment figures?” Last night I went to get an ice cream and when I asked the woman at the counter for “two balls,” she smiled at me knowingly, flashed me a V with her fingers, and winked furtively while whispering, “Yessir! I should explain: I don’t mean the man himself, but Hannity the book. Adbusters was the group credited with creating the Occupy Wall Street movement that ‘occupied’ not only Zuccotti Park in downtown Manhattan, but much of our news coverage in 2011. Occupy Wall Street never went away in spirit. In many ways, it set the stage for and is the inspiration of the current Anifa anarchist movement. Now Adbusters has a new project, a 50-day ‘siege’ of the White House in the run up to the November 3 election. September 17 is significant, because that was the date in 2011 that the occupation of Zuccotti Park started.
