According to the California Department of Corrections, the state is set to release up to 18,000 prisoners by the end of August to ‘slow the spread of COVID-19.’Officials in California say releasing prisoners will help protect the “health and safety of the incarcerated population.”“These actions are taken to provide for the health and safety of the incarcerated population and staff,” Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Secretary Ralph Diaz said in a news release. “We aim to implement these decompression measures in a way that aligns both public health and public safety.”
No worries....... what’s the worst that could happen?

Well never mind protecting the innocents that will impacted by this outrageous political ploy by a crazy governor...and silly me, I thought shelter in place was the new norm. What better place to shelter in place than prison? Too logical I suppose...I’m beyond angry at this point.

Of course, that plan will hasten the spread of crime in the state, but, most probably, someone weighed the importance of votes vs.the importance of safety for citizens.
Votes won.

I would must rather have 18,000 Covid people running around than 18,000 criminals.

The first Civil War was to force the states to stay in the Union the next may be to expel them.

I think those of us, who don't live in CA, should have the right to vote them out of the "United" States. We can't just have a State like CA join the rest of us. I mean, the Governor, Mayors and a lot of the people in that State belong on an Island. The should be all by themselves. We don't need 18,000 of their prisoners jumping the Border of Califoristan and coming in to other States. Lets cut them loose! Put up a Wall, like the one keeping out Illegals, and let them do whatever the heck they want!

I'm confused. If these masks are stopping covid, why don't they just force all prisoners to wear masks?

Residents in nursing homes and assisted living residents are kept locked up but criminals are released.

Exactly #10. They tell us masks work. Must be something else to this "release", ya think? It's not about Covid, votes maybe?

How do prisoners who can go nowhere get COVID? Prisoners get COVID from guards and visitors
So to try to keep COVID out of jails we should monitor/test all non prisoners entering the jail. Simple, right?

Isolation from the public and cell-distancing would better protect the prisoners. Release is just a brainstorm idea from some dark leftist lair. The left likes it because they regard criminals as brothers in arms, and because release endangers the public. But why do officials bow and scrape before this idiocy?

Huh. I would have thought that confining the inmates to their prison cells would contain the virus.

This just shows how screwed up the leftist and liberal Democrats really are, as at the same time that they are releasing tens of thousands of legitimately convicted criminals, using the COVID as an excuse, they want the Republican gadfly Roger Stone, an old man with underlying medical conditions, thrown in a federal prison for years, a prison that has a COVID outbreak among its inmate population, for committing a politically based “process crime” that Congressional Democrats and their DC “Deep State” operatives themselves commit all the time with no repercussions.

I suppose they will be exempt from COVID-19 testing because it wouldn't be fair to make them have tests. The best thing that could happen to California is that it droped into the sea and cleansed it.

California has made masks mandatory. If masks work, why aren’t the prisoners issued masks instead of being released?

Have the inmates wear masks, they do it in Florida and the inmates make the masks out of discarded prison uniforms. What's the problem, you are releasing death and destruction on the people on this country. Trump 2020

Many of these prisoners won't have a place to live once they're out. There are no jobs for most/many either, so how do you wonder many will "make a living"?
The State recently transferred a bunch of inmates from one prison to another, and they ended up with a massive outbreak of COVID (part of the reason for the spike in positive cases).
So, you have the social engineers creating the perfect storm with people not having a place to go, a job to do, and police being told they need to ease-up.
I also presume they'll now be eligible to be counted in the census.

Real reason is to cut spending. Aren't prisoners already social distancing, and quarantined. New prisoners can be kept from the general prison population for 14 days. I fear California will turn into another hell hole. I is very sad what these Democratic governors are doing to their states.

Even if it were to "slow the spread" of Wuhan flu - it will increase the spread of blood and death across the state in the population of innocent people.
Dems - always supporting criminals, never supporting honest citizens.

I just signed the recall Newsome petition yesterday. Has enough yet my fellow Californians?! Slow the spread of the virus but accelerate felony crime exponentially. Insanity knows no limit. On the upside they can use the empty jails to house the homeless.

All the while ranting to defund the police. Is this the definition of oxymoron? So far over 100,000 prisoners have been released and the crime rate is rising, especially incidents involving guns wounding or killing people. People wonder why gun shops are selling more guns than ever.

The logic of these people just kills me. Release 18,000 felons so they can murder more people on the streets than the virus ever could? Sometimes I find myself imagining walls around California and New York with Coast Guard patrols of the sea traffic to make sure they don't escape the zoos they are creating. Maybe one day they can sell licenses for big game hunting trips inside the walls. The art of Taxidermy would make a huge comeback.
