Report: Washington to Shed
‘Redskins’ Name Monday

Original Article

Posted By: Ribicon, 7/13/2020 12:48:16 AM

Ashburn, Va.—Washington’s NFL team will get rid of the name ‘Redskins’ on Monday, according to multiple reports. It’s unclear when a new name will be revealed for one of the league’s oldest franchises. USA Today, ESPN, The Washington Post, Washington Times and Sports Business Journal reported Sunday night that owner Dan Snyder is set to “retire” the name. Yahoo, on Saturday, reported a name change was imminent. The team launched a ‘thorough review’ of the name July 3 that the NFL supported. That came in the aftermath of prominent sponsors FedEx, Nike, PepsiCo and Bank of America asking the team to change the name.

Comments:

What if they played a football game and nobody came?

Another poster is welcome to set me straight - I will be checking this later. I noticed that the AP referenced Yahoo. Wasn't that the name of an Indian tribe somewhere. If so, MLB should cancel them!

Change it to the OrangeSkins. The sponsors will be begging to change it back. This is truly pathetic. Remember when American Express made the classic commercial when Tom Landry was surrounded by . . . Redskins. It's sad those humorous days are replaced by PC garbage of paying way too much attention to people who do little more than seek perpetual means of pretending to be offended.

This is just like a never-ending witch hunt. Anything fun or traditional has to have some racist, sexist or homophobic angle and must be stamped out. If you don't, someone will turn you in and will yell, "Burn the witch!" Scholars will look back on this period of mass hysteria and shake their heads.

The best suggestion so far: keep the name, but change the logo to a potato. Very appealing. Vegans would support it. And anyone opposing it could be shamed as being an anti-potatite. In time the fan base could be called the "couch potatos."

I dont care about sports so its no skin off my beak, but I really hate how the self appointed advocates are trying to wipe off the face of the earth any mention of American Indians. Its like the massacres and diseases they inflicted on the Indians in the 1800's werent enough. Now they are deleting them from butter labels and sports teams too. Why do they hate Indians so much?

As a former huge sports fan, I through with the NFL. My cowboys haven’t been the same since Landry/Staubach. No NBA either. MLB is questionable. Pro sports will never be the same due to “wokeness.” I did grab a Redskins jersey on Amazon out of spite as they reportedly liquidated all reference of said “racist” merchandise. Was able to pick my number! Chose 45! I’ll wear it to a rally if one comes to Texas any time soon. Yes, George Orwell, we are a corporate oligarchy!

These names were given out of admiration. What team would get a name out of weakness? It is probably the usual white liberals saying Indians should be offended. I remember reading Indians mostly supported the name. At least the Braves and Blackhawks aren't changing. The Redskins uniforms and helmet were great. Just another example of liberals ruining everything they touch.

I remember being told the legend of the Red Man. The maker was baking people in the beginning. One batch was over done, and came out very, very dark. The next batch was underdone and was too pale. The woke name change won't mollify anyone. In Minneapolis, they changed the name of Lake Calhoun to Bde Maka Ska . The lake is in the neighborhood where many of the stores were looted and the buildings burned to the ground. So much for name changes.

I am a bit confused. It is said that sponsors of the team, and sponsors of the cars at NASCAR refuse to sponsor the team and the cars until the name is changed. The sponsors pay to have their names on the stadiums and the cars because so many fans watch the teams and the cars. If no one watches because of the changes, how does that help the sponsors who need to STFU.

I hate caving to the incessant PC crowd, most of whom don't realize this is what native Americans called themselves and at the time it was meant to honor them, but I do think they should change the name. If they were naming the team today, they wouldn't go near the name "Redskins." That's the best logical argument I've heard for changing it.

Let’s poll the woke Leftists and unemployed looters and arsonists to see how many of them lay down large sums of money for NFL gear and game tickets. Somehow the NFL thinks it’s a great business decision to antagonize the vast majority of football fans to pander to this group. The overpaid players who think they matter more than their customers need to start saving some money. Those salaries will not be paid by the ‘resistance’.

Hey! The NFL is culturally appropriating, "Vikings". Vikings is a term used by Nordic peoples to designate warriors in the Nordic Peoples. Same as Pirates, Privateers and Buccaneers (formal legal definitions by European Authorities) There are many others. Most of these teams are populated by Black Athletes. Bronx Zoo officials this week apologized for putting a central African man on display in the zoo’s Monkey House 114 years ago. The man, Ota Benga, was taken as a slave from his indigenous Mbuti people in the Congo and sold to an American man—who brought him to New York, where he was placed in the exhibition for 20 days in September 1906. Zoo officials on Wednesday described it as an act of “unconscionable racial intolerance.” “In the name of equality, transparency, and accountability, we must confront our organization’s historic role in promoting racial injustice as we advance our mission to save wildlife

Sanctuary! Sanctuary! A struggling Manhattan church has been forced to block off the steps to its front door to keep homeless druggies from defiling the sacred space, The Post has learned. Prayers alone weren’t enough to protect the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Hell’s Kitchen from temporary residents of The Watson Hotel nearby, so a makeshift barricade built out of a clothes-drying rack and twine now bars the entrance to the house of God. “These people would come and crap all over the stairs!” an outraged church member said Wednesday.(Snip) The super, who gave his name as George, said the front door has to remain

President Donald Trump again tried to position himself as the champion of the suburbs, as those voters could determine whether he spends a second term in the White House. 'I am happy to inform all of the people living their Suburban Lifestyle Dream that you will no longer be bothered or financially hurt by having low income housing built in your neighborhood,' Trump tweeted as he flew to Texas Wednesday, adding that 'crime will go down.' Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a former 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, called it 'blatant racism from the President of the United States.'

If the spike in shootings isn’t keeping NYPD commissioner Shea up at night, the protesters must be. A group of demonstrators shined lights and blared sirens at the top cop’s W. 73rd Street home at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to video posted to social media. “This is a raid, Commissioner Shea,” the demonstrators yelled in one clip. “If we don’t get no justice, then you don’t get no sleep,” they continued, citing the early morning clearing out of Occupy City Hall last week. NYPD officers, in riot gear, emptied out the remaining 60 or so City Hall protesters around 3:40 a.m. on Friday.

It’s the Great Black Tar Way. A cluster of junkies has turned Broadway into a shooting gallery, injecting drugs unhampered in broad daylight and then shuffling around in a zonked-out stupor, seemingly oblivious to the Midtown bustle around them, The Post has learned. If that wasn’t enough, the addicts are peppering the area with used syringes, turning individual planters on 40th Street and Broadway into mini needle parks. “They’ve taken over the tables, blatantly using needles and shooting up heroin all day long,” said a local worker who asked that he only be identified as James. “There’s no police action, there’s no reach-out.

The state of New York faces a budget deficit of $30 billion over the next two years thanks to the COVID-19 crisis, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday it’s up to the federal government to fill it. Without that help, Cuomo told reporters that funding for local governments and hospitals would take a significant hit. Education will too, unless the federal bill requires states to fully fund education. His comments come a day after Senate Republicans in Washington revealed details of their latest COVID-19 relief package proposal, called the HEALS Act. Cuomo sent a letter to the state’s congressional delegation urging them to push for $500 billion in unrestricted

Admiration for George W. Bush doesn’t win you much praise in today’s Republican Party, but I don’t care. On Thursday former President George W. Bush attended and delivered a speech at the late Congressman John Lewis’s funeral. George W. Bush had every reason not to attend Lewis’s funeral, let alone eulogize him. Lewis may have been a famed civil rights leader, but he was also a bitter partisan Democrat congressman, who boycotted both of Bush’s inaugurations. Bush barely mentioned the political division between him and Lewis. “John and I had our disagreements of course,” Bush said.

The D.C. Court of Appeals has agreed to rehear the case against retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, the court announced on Thursday. The court’s decision prolongs an already three-year legal battle between Flynn and Department of Justice that federal prosecutors asked to be closed with all charges dropped back in May. Federal District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan denied a request to immediately dismiss the case and instead brought in a retired judge to assess and potentially continue the prosecution. Oral arguments in the D.C. Circuit Court are scheduled for August 11.
