Carter issued a preliminary injunction Tuesday ordering the city and county of Los Angeles to ensure that every homeless person living in the notorious Skid Row district has housing by October 18 this year. The Los Angeles Times reported: Judge David O. Carter granted a preliminary injunction sought by the plaintiffs in the case last week and now is telling the city and county that they must find single women and unaccompanied children on skid row a place to stay within 90 days, followed by helping families within 120 days and finally, by Oct. 18, offering every homeless person on skid row

Based on the well-established constitutional right to get everything for free if you don't want to work...?

And what feel-good, made-up 'right' makes this legal? Send Judge Carter the bill.

The Midnight Mission did a great deal to help the skid row folks. Clancy died last year but I'm sure their efforts are reinforced.

I suggest that the Judge open the doors to his home, and let them live there...

Does the judge not realize that there is a percentage of homeless who actually LIKE to live out on the street? Yes, they have mental issues but they are like this.

Nitwit-in-black-robes appointed by Clinton, the Rapist-in-Chief. Stinking up things using powers NOWHERE granted in the Constitution for 23 years, and being a poster child for Term Limits on *ALL* federal judges.
FIRE this fool! Today is good.

Then Judge Carter should be getting ready to have a couple of dozen house guests sharing his residence.

Moving out of LA would be the much easier choice. This judge is daft and there is a lot of that going around today.

Good. Send the homeless to LA. If the Dems can send illegals by bus around the country, why can't the homeless be sent to LA for free housing?

Years ago there was an influx of Haitian refugees that just had to be housed somewhere. Some new apartments were going up over by the university, so in they went. That area is a cesspool to this day.
So hope that there are no apartment complexes with empty spots near you.

That is not within the judges power. And systemic racism? I guess I've been shown the wrong group of homeless. Are they going to throw this systemic racism crap in our face for everything now?

What will the judge do to the homeless people who refuse to go into the designated housing? Have them arrested for vagrancy?
That won't work - the U.S. Supreme Court, in the Gideon case, effectively eliminated the enforcement of vagrancy laws.

Oops! I stand corrected.
The vagrancy case was Kolander v. Lawson, coming out of the 9th circuit, and upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in a 7-2 decision written by Sandra Day O'Connor.
She disappointed me, even back in 1983.

How long before our government starts confiscating property 'to house the homeless' or is it already happening?

Oh this should be a real improvement. Holiday inn express should do it. Free WiFi and breakfast. Now we are talking. So a judge on his own just decrees this and it is so. This is a King not a judge. Give him a People and gold robe, a crown and scepter and a big red and gold throne.

This will be the next rallying cry. First, it was health care, then, forgiveness for student loans. Next, it will be a multi-trillion dollar bill to pay for mortgages for the homeless because the government must help. Americans are incapable of helping themselves.

Why not? We are forced to house every illegal alien who happens to make it over the border. We also give them food, money, and free health care. Why shouldn't they be forced to house the homeless also. How about free stuff for everyone!

A very good solution is place them all in the closed Sears building just off Soto.
Has multiple stories, and a very large parking lot to expand.
They can park a mobile clinic there and ensure they're treated and taken care of.
Of course, what could go wrong with a State-run institution, right? After all, those mental health institutions were so well run.

I have 2 homeless people that live under a bridge near me. They get their spending money at the intersections. Their water by breaking into the city water system. Social workers have offered them clothing, housing, and a path to clean up, find a job, and rejoin society, but they don't want that. They have tried that approach, and always come back to the bridge. Frankly, I wish they were picked up and housed somewhere else. I prefer beauty, not seeing homeless people bathing in public, or being hounded trying to get through an intersection. Society has offered to house and feed the homeless to get them out of their neighborhoods, but they want take the offers.

Problem: Many of the homeless do not want a place to stay. Places to stay involve discipline, no drugs or alcohol, limited storage for their possessions. Often, curfews. A fair number would rather “live free”.

Those who wonder why the homeless like California disregard the moderate climate. Little extreme cold, little extreme heat in the places to which they gravitate. As has been described here, many do not want a place to live. I have had a personal experience with trying to help two homeless women. The first was a remarkably well-maintained middleaged woman who “lived” somewhere near my library. She may have used the library restroom to clean up. Her cart was full of orderly bundles of her clean clothes. I approached her one day and asked her if there was anything she needed, anything I could do for her. Her response: “No”. And she turned and walked away. On another day I saw a somewhat older woman in the market. She was buying single serving cans of foods that required no heating. The weather was cold. I had a nice coat of my late Mother’s that I knew would fit her. I asked her if I could bring it to her. “No”. For their own reasons they resist aid.

Won't lots of homeless people from other areas now move to Skid Row? Knowing they'll get free housing?
