Republicans in Texas have filed a number of lawsuits while sanctioning GOP Gov. Greg Abbott after he reimposed restrictions on businesses and other sectors of the economy after coronavirus cases reignited across the state. The suits come as critics of Abbott’s actions note that despite major increases in the number of coronavirus positives across the state, the vast majority of them involve patients who are asymptomatic or suffering mild conditions. They also note that the coronavirus death rate in Texas is remarkably low.A suit filed last week in Travis County District Court by Houston GOP activist Steven Hotze, former Republican state Rep. This is great news. I hope Greg Abbott is removed from the Republican Party.

The death rate over the last week is anything but minuscule, three times what it was just a month ago. Hotze is tilting at windmills in filing this suit, which will go nowhere.

I don't know what chance the lawsuit has, but Abbott and Patrick have really gone over the edge. Once the initial counter-measures were taken Patrick should have called for a special session of the legislature to map out further actions within the existing law, rather than let the governor suspend all legal protections and restrict businesses. I think there will be more of this coming down from some of the legislators, but I haven't heard back from my state senator after sending an email with my concerns. It seems everyone is go along to get along. An indicator of where we are going will be next week during the primary elections.

"Cases" don't mean much. Death rate and hospitalization rates are of interest.
And can we find out how many of these "Texas cases" are actually "Mexican cases" which managed to stagger over the border before collapsing in the USA?

Hospitalizations in Texas have jumped from 2000 to 10000 in just one month.

I live in Texarkana, our county has had a very small number of cases and deaths. A statewide mask order is stupid and overkill. I have not and will not wear a mask - period. Luckily I can shop in Arkansas or Louisiana and avoid the lunacy.

Hospitalizations everywhere are increasing, in large measure due to the fact that we have now opened our hospitals back up to treat those who should have been being treated all along. Tests and surgeries that were put on hold are now being performed.

#5, Border Patrol agents are getting sick due to the Mexicans fleeing into the US to get treatment. When the hospitals in Laredo and other border locations are full, the patients get sent to the bigger hospitals in Houston, San Antonio, etc. But the media does not want to report these facts. Probably have the same thing going on in Arizona, which has also had an increase in cases. COVID case increases are not due to policies in the state, but due to illegal immigration, uncontrolled by the Feds.

Sorry, hit Reply too soon. #3 & 6, COVID death rates are down nationwide by 88% since May. Hospitalizations are counted as anyone in the hospital, for anything, who tests positive for COVID, per the Texas Health Dept. The numbers are being cooked. The question is, is it incompetence or deliberate?

WRONG 3,6. Go to the TSHS website! Deaths have flattened and they changed the ruled midstream. One positive test = seventeen probable! I, in a mega church in Austin. 4 locations, 5,000 members. Pastor only knows of one couple that had it. He was 70 just over triple bypass heart surgery. He said he felt lethargic the first week and coughed two more weeks. Said he had been a lot sicker with the regular flu. This is now political. Do your homework on the data!

Cases were increasing very slowly until local hospital got their own testing machine. The increased testing and new "covid math" that has recently been put into use has exploded the numbers. With all this, especially the covid math, no one has a clue how many real and active cases we really have.
I agree with a comment I just read on another story. Everybody will be exposed sooner or later, all we can do is spread it out a little and protect vulnerable people. Trying to stop the spread like Abbot is doing will only kill a lot of people with other health problems, it already has, and stretch the pandemic so that it never ends - the Dim's wet dream.

Hospitals are a business. They want beds to be filled. Imagine an airline that had planes on the ground and no intent on flying them.
Hospitals are no different.

About 3 weeks ago, 60,000+ protestors and rioters started having their little party in Houston. No social distancing. Most weren't wearing masks. The mayor and police chief were out there partying with them.
But they are claiming that that doesn't have anything to do with the uptick in cases. It was a few people going to the beach, eating at restaurants, and going to church that caused all the problems.
They are all so afraid of being labeled "racist" for shutting down these violent protests and riots. I have lost all respect for Abbott. I truly pray a good conservative with a set of actual cajones will primary him in 2022!!!!
