Since when do they make this decision? I doubt they 'own' the school. Wouldn't whoever does have the final say? I'd love it if these self righteous morons voted to change the name and have the real owner go, "uhhh... no."
I can see them threatening to leave, followed by, "Well, there's the door."
"Memo to self, Do not hire Liberal teachers..."

Does the good professor know that Spanish explorer, conquistador and Governor of Hispaniola Ponce de Leon is believed to have accompanied Christopher Columbus on his trip to the New World in 1493? Is he prepared to offer an apology and change his name? Also, why would someone uncomfortable with the name of their college apply for admission?

So it's just going to be "Washington & University", since there already is a Washington University in St.Louis?

Why bother - most of the kids going there think Lee is a brand of blue jeans.

Gen. Robert E. Lee was married to Mary Custis, the great-granddaughter of Martha Washington, and who's father George Washington Parke Custis, owned the land that Mary inherited that later became Arlington National Cemetery after she was unable to pay the taxes owed of $92.07 in-person (she sent someone to pay) but the law only allowed it to be paid by the owner in-person.
That property was auctioned off, and the only bidder was the Federal government who purchased it for $26,800 on land that was valued at $34,000, at that time.
The State of Virginia was a Confederate State, with their headquarters at Richmond. Lots of monuments, parks, streets, etc.. are likely connected or named after people whom the Left/Progressives/Democrats are against now.
Yet, in 1864 their party platform was to let the South secede so they could end the War. This would have allowed slavery to continue, and would have ended up giving the Confederate States their first official recognition (no other country in the world recognized the CSofA in any official capacity).

The restoration of Washington College following the war was a massive accomplishment of Robert E. Lee. That place was about ready to shut down until Lee showed up and provided his leadership. It is shameful that the current faculty there are ignorant of this, or indifferent to it, but it is a fact that they would not be working there had he not taken on that post-war task.

Lee was the President of Washington College from the end of the Civil War until his death. His name was added to honor his service to the school. He married a descendant of Martha Washington’s who had slaves at the Custis family home at Arlington. I guess the Peruvian professor De Leon would just as soon blow the place up and start over again.

Most of my life I have thought that the Ciivil War had the best outcome by maintaining the Union. No longer. Considering what this country has become, I now wish the South had won Lincoln’s illegal, bloody war.

1. If the College needs to change it's name, so does the crazed PC professor. Isn't Ponce De Leon and Spanish explorer who surely slaughtered countless "savages" during his exploration of the "New World"?
2. Students did not know that they were supposed to be uncomfortable with the college name until crazy PC Lib professors told them so. If a name makes you uncomfortable, you are not smart enough to go to college.
3. It is the Board of Directors responsibility to consider and make changes regarding the college. As a crazed lib professor, you are an employee. You are paid to teach based on facts and critical thinking. You are not paid to indoctrinate and oppose those who think differently than you.

Lee is buried in the chapel on the campus. Are they going to exhume him? Or are they going to raze the chapel that bears his name? What about his horse, Traveler?

Robert E.Lee's father and uncle were signers of the Declaration of Independence. I suppose according to the MOB in these " woke " days that's a negative thing.

Why not use truth in advertising and delete the word "university". Replace it with "indoctrination station" perhaps.

I just finished "Robert E. Lee on Leadership." Of course, he was on the wrong side. Our problem right now is trying to apply our current values, beliefs, and culture to what existed hundreds of years ago. Lee was not a monster. He inherited slaves, and he freed them before the war. He did not believe in slavery and wanted to phase it out. We forget (or never understood) that loyalty to one's state was far greater then (pre-Civil War) than now. States played a strong part in life. One was a Texan, or a South Carolinian, or a Georgian, or a Virginian. Units that fought in the war were identified by the states they came from, on both sides. Lee and his family were long-time Virginians, and Lee would not make war against his state and his family. I'm not defending him for fighting. Life is seldom as simple as a bumper sticker.

When I was a student nobody ever worried about making me feel comfortable. Washington is just as offensive as Lee. Rename the place Crazy Horse University. Their nickname could be the Paleface Pacifiers.

This is insane, because without Robert E. Lee, there probably wouldn't be a "Washington and Lee University" today for these "professors" to even be employed at:
Lee took of as President of Washington College in August 1865, only five months after the surrender at Appomattox Courthouse. Lee had turned down more prestigious and better compensated offers of President of the Virginia Military Institute, because it was a state-supported institution and President of the University of the South, because it was a religious school.
When Lee arrived at Washington College (Lexington, VA), it was in ruins from the war. Its few buildings were dilapidated, it library and laboratories destroyed. What remained was a four-man faculty with about 40 students.
Lee, because of his public adulation, attracted a number of donations and endowments and quickly rebuilt Washington College, restoring old buildings and building new ones, Within five years, the College had a 23-member faculty and almost 500 students (its current study body is about 2,220). He overhauled the curriculum, which had emphasized Greek, Latin, and moral philosophy, adding engineering, law, agriculture, commerce, modern languages, and journalism.
Shortly after Lee died, the college renamed itself "Washington and Lee University" in gratitude for Lee's accomplishments in rebuilding the school.
I wonder if most of these "professors" are aware of this history??
