Many whites are ashamed, saddened and feel guilty about our history of slavery, Jim Crow and gross racial discrimination. Many black people remain angry over the injustices of the past and what they see as injustices of the present. Both blacks and whites can benefit from a better appreciation of black history.
Often overlooked or ignored is the fact that, as a group, black Americans have made the greatest gains, over some of the highest hurdles, and in a shorter span of time than any other racial group in history.
For example, if one totaled up the earnings and spending of black Americans

Often I wish Dr. Williams was not such a gentle soul. His whispers have been drowned out in angry rhetoric as has the voice of minority interests. Seeing whites riot as if they speak for blacks is disheartening especially when blacks are pandered to by the violence and destruction of their own neighborhoods as if this was actually best for them.

Many whites don't assume blame for their problems or their whining or their history. Much of that history was built on the backs of general American achievement except for some outstanding black men like George Washington Carver, Thomas Sowell or Ben Carson who are truly great men. The Tuskeegee Airmen are true heroes not the BLM terrorists. Black spending done with EBT cards provided by working people is not a matter of pride I have a black friend, a military veteran and a computer programmer with whom I have worked side by side and he doesn't agree with any of this tearing down of society that they think they will use to achieve progress status and I like to believe that most blacks are like him.

I've never been registered as a Democrat, so I'm not ashamed about slavery, Jim Crow and gross racial discrimination.

I never owned a slave. None of my ancestors owned a slave.
The real black history is that of Benjamin Banneker, Elijah McCoy, Dr Charles Drew, and other pioneers of science and invention. Those are lives that mattered. The lives of felons who resist arrest--not so much.
BLM might as well run full-page ads calling for more black felons.

One of the crying shames in this nation's education is that a lot of whites understand black history better than some of the black community. We accept it and we welcome it. It is a shame that thanks to liberals controlling our educational system, blacks don't know their historic contributions to this nation. They only know what democrats tell them, and what they tell the black community is simply so much self serving garbage. Some of the comments here today are so excellent. There are real black heroes in our history, if only the blacks in this nation knew more about them.

I was born in 61. My descendants came to the US after the civil war, or fought on the side of the North.
I'm not ashamed, because slavery and oppression have been with humanity since the beginning and will continue until its end. The strong, regardless country, race or religion have always subjugated the weak. Was it right? No....but that's the way that it was. Indians enslaved other Indians, Africans enslaved other Africans, Europeans enslaved other Europeans until the found easier pickings elsewhere and Asians enslaved Asians.
What does anger me is that we don't get any benefit for the progress that we've made in a relatively short period of time. Systemic is so pervasive, that people have to invent episodes of racist activity and then declare themselves as victims. Its to pervasive, that they have to invent bogus statistics, its so pervasive that they have to find new words, phrases, gestures, images etc to be offended by. Its to pervasive that the claimants have to cite an institution banned 150 years ago and something that they themselves never were subjected to.

Nobody cries for the Irish slaves that were brought over here. The Jews were Egyptian slaves for 400 years as well.

The problem is they don't teach true black history in schools. Do the talk about the NAACP was created by white people in NYC? Do they mention there were also blacks in the south that owned slaves and worked them for farmers for profit? Do they teach that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was carried by the Republicans? When the Act was passed LBJ made the comment, 'If this passes every n-word in the country will vote Democrat for the next 100 years. Just the use of the n-word tells you the character of the person.

No, we aren't. I am living in the here and now. I have never owned a slave, you have never been a slave. As I told one black woman "If you are always looking in the rear view mirror, you will never enjoy today or see the possibilities of tomorrow"
