Dixie Beer will join a growing list of U.S. companies changing their names in light of the sweeping protests against systemic racism across the country, billionaire owner Gayle Benson announced Friday. “With inclusive input from all of our community stakeholders, we are preparing to change the name of our brewery and products that carry the Dixie brand and these conversations will determine what brand will best represent our culture and community,” said Benson, who owns the New Orleans Saints football team and NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans.(Snip) Benson said she recognizes the “critical conversations” that are going on around the nation about the “immeasurable pain

What about PEOPLE and PETS named Dixie? And Lee? What do we do with them? A month ago that would have been an absurd question...

Maybe name it ''Union Beer?'' Some people would sell their soul to make money. Dixie beer seems to have sold it's soul. It has also lost most of whatever customer base it had. Do they think BLM and Antifa will suddenly drink whatever they name it now? I suspect that the owner, Gayle Benson, is not a Southerner anyway. At least not in spirit or culture. Billionaires don't care. They have all the money they need, so they can eliminate jobs.

I didn't know that they were still brewing that swill. Back in the day it was advised to get Dixie beer as cold as possible so you couldn't taste it if it was the only beer available. Either that or abstinence.

College buddy who graduated a semester before me in 1979 came to campus with a case of Dixie in his car. Good lord I swear they brewed skunk scent glands in that stuff. As we used to say, "Made straight from the waters of Lake Pontchartrain."
Gaack!

One of the biggest gold diggers in the country, is now going to earn her 'woke' credentials by caving to a bunch of rabble rousing racists. At least it's not something that will be missed, after the really bad run they had some years ago, most folks down here wouldn't drink it anyway.

They used to have a tasting room right in downtown New Orleans on the river, just west of Cafe de Monde. Lots of fun back in the 60's tasting LOTS of beer.

Another stupid white woman sells out her principles in the name of pandering and money. She also owns NFL and NBA franchises so naturally her money is on the black folk.

Are they going to do like the Dixie Chicks, who changed their name to the "Chicks", and change their name to "Beer"?

Maybe one day sense and sensibility will return and these venerable brands can once again assume their original names. Loved the Dixie beer stories. I have used it for cooking in recipes from Nawlin's that specifically call for Dixie beer as an ingredient. Seems to work as long as you aren't drinking it.

If the pain and oppression of our bLACK and BROWN communities are immeasurable, then why not hand the company over to bLACK Lives Matter as a humble first step toward reconciliation? Hand over the NFL and NBA teams too, Karen.
