MINNEAPOLIS—The Minneapolis City Council on Friday unanimously approved a proposal to change the city charter to allow the police department to be dismantled, following mass public criticism of law enforcement over the killing of George Floyd. The 12-0 vote is just the first step in a process that faces significant bureaucratic obstacles to make the November ballot, where the city’s voters would have the final say. And it came amid a spate of recent shootings in Minnesota’s largest city that have heightened many citizens’ concerns about talk of dismantling the department. The proposed amendment next goes to a policy committee and to the city’s Charter Commission for a formal review,

I really hope that they do this, and quickly. It will be a horror show.
Getting this horror show rolling and on display will be a real education for these fools who imagine this will be an improvement.
Be careful what you wish for.

The useless media does a million interviews with the crazies that want this stupidity, but never ONE person that is against it. You mean EVERY single soul in that area can't wait to be without the police? Who's going to help and protect them, the Give-A-Hug Patrol?

This is like getting a splinter of wood in your finger and the medical treatment is to cut both hands off.
Brilliant genius at work. So what law enforcement department will step up to fill the void? State police? County Sheriff? Ohhhh that's right.... they will set up quick response community organizers and social workers. Perfect. Popcorn is ready, ice tea brewed, recliner all set, fresh batteries in the remote. Just hit my 4K 65" screen with some Windex. Go for it.

I agree I hope they do this quickly. They will be surprised at how good and hard the results will be. The only problem I have will be those that can escape will and bring their corrupted values with them. All this will do will destroy another livable community.
I truly wish there was a way to force these people to live with the decisions they are going to make.

The tragic irony is that the poorest communities will be totally defenseless against the criminals. Minneapolis should do a 30 day free trial. No police anywhere, and then let the public comment.

The obviously replacement would be the Black Panthers. That would make it all better.

To be replaced, ultimately, by some form of political policing headed by committed activists and community organizers and staffed with thugs who have no compunctions about using any degree of force against badthinkers ratted out by neighbors, family or block commissars or whose names are on lists compiled at party HQ.

Perhaps first the City Council should resign and reapply for their jobs through a special election?

Ditto #4 but too late. Property values just went to burn it down a 2 AM, collect the insurance and bug out.

george Floyd was not killed.
he died of cardiac faIlure, aggravated by Kung Flu and illegal drugs.
the police were merely spectators in his death.
Eric Garner was not killed. He died of a heart attack, brought on by morbid obesity. And he was not choked. He was taken down..
