On Wednesday, Philadelphia mayor Jim Kenney issued a statement in which he championed the removal of the Christopher Columbus statue at Marconi Plaza in South Philadelphia, thought to be the first publicly-funded monument to Christopher Columbus in the United States, citing his concern for “public safety.”Kenney stated: Like many communities across the country, Philadelphia is in the midst of a much-needed reckoning about the legacy of systemic racism and oppression in this country and around the world. Part of that reckoning requires reexamining what historical figures deserve to be commemorated

I personally am glad Columbus discovered America, so religious and personal liberty could be implemented in the New World. Why is this bad?

Hi Mayor. Don't know if you knew this, but Columbus never set foot in what is now the USA.

Public Safety? Then hire more Cops, or call up the PA National Guard. Or you could have your teachers actually teach the history. It's not as interesting as their Liberal Fantasy History Porn... but it is interesting and inspiring.

Really? The Columbus statue is going to spray paint the mob? Or tie ropes around them? Of set them on fire? There is so much American history in Philadelphia. I hope it is being guarded. I cannot imagine if these animals ruined those precious buildings and their contents. Doesn't anyone in a position of power have the strength (balls) to do something? This has to stop.

So "public safety" has become a euphemism for "appease the bullies so they don't hurt us". There was a time not long past when punks who came with baseball bats to tear down things would just get the hell beaten out of them.

Paraphrasing Mayor Kenney's remarks:
"I am a gutless coward, afraid of the mob, and too weak to stand up against these Marxist vandals, whom I actually admire. Vote for me."

I have an idea. Why don’t we have our discussion first before we go pulling down the statues. Maybe we might change our mind and like the subject portrayed. After all, none of us are bigots, are we?

The hateful mayors want this destruction, and they pull back the cops and let their mobs do what they can't otherwise get done.

Maybe the mob should dig up the graves of the sinners like the iranian mobs did during the revolution.

Great idea #12, except that the testosterone challenged pajama boy lily-white self-loathing ultra-liberals who comprise the mob would not know which end of the shovel to hold.

what is going to happen when they really target museums etc. torching, destroying..looting..then what....? it may be a little late. but, what happened to good old water cannons and fire hoses?? that way you could knock them off their feet plus giving them a much needed bath..so they don't stink up the jails.

Another black and anarchist pandering moron takes the lunacy a step further, pull the statues down for the mob and save them the work. What a great idea. You might as well take down the Liberty Bell while you have the equipment out there you doofus.

If they keep feeding these ignorant fools what they want, they will move on to torching or destroying anything in the country that has historical significance...Mt. Vernon, Monticello, Mt. Rushmore, monuments, statues, parks....anything.
