Now the cancel police have come for Teddy Roosevelt.
A statue of TR on horseback that has stood at the front of the American Museum of Natural History since 1940 is going to be removed by the museum with the assent of New York City.
The statue portrays two figures beside Roosevelt on foot, a Native American and an African, which is taken to be a statement of racial hierarchy, although the depiction is open to interpretation. Roosevelt is also, of course, getting specifically targeted for his racial views.
There is no doubt that he partook of the prejudices of his time and reflected some of its worst intellectual influences, particularly Social Darwinism.
Teddy was among the greatest Presidents. He doesn't get the recognition he deserves primarily because he had an R after his name. If you want to hunt racists look at Woodrow Wilson or Teddy's cousin Franklin.

George Washington, Ulysses Grant, Abe Lincoln, great men, great Americans, let's put up more statues of them.

Theodore Roosevelt was the first President to host a black man, alone, to dinner at the White House: Booker T. Washington. A successor President, Woodrow Wilson, re-segregated the Federal workforce. And exhibited, "Birth of a Nation" at the White House. And thought the Constitution was overly permissive when it came to individual liberties.
Naturally, the Establishment worships Wilson, and calls Roosevelt a cowboy.

I have mixed feelings about TR. He did some good things, but I don't agree with all his views.

I say Teddy was the greatest man to be President. But he was by far not the greatest president.

Good point #4. I wrote an article ("Edith, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?") last year. It was certainly shocking to see what was printed (verbatim, no #$! to block out the "n" word) in newspapers of the time. TR took a big political risk, but he and Booker T. Washington remained friends. When Washington died, TR fondly remembered his friend, pointing out that Booker T. “realized that the respect of the southern white man was the greatest asset he possessed in his work. . . His sole purpose was to handle Tuskegee Institute so that it would be an asset to the south and in this he succeeded. . . [He] did justice, loved mercy and walked humbly.”

Teddy was responsible for our National Park system. That is probably his greatest contribution to this nation. Unfortunately, one of his sadder is being one of the founders of the FBI.

Preaching to the choir. The tattooed freaks who are tearing down statues know nothing more about Teddy Roosevelt other than he provided the name for a bridge across the Potomac River. At least the protesters of the Vietnam War had a valid reason for their excitement, fear of being drafted into the Army and being made to serve their country. Today's protesters can not even locate the attachment points of their puppet strings.

In order for that to happen, #3, the black-adorned whackos would have to venture out of their cities and walk out here into the country. It's scary out here with lots of trees for snipers to hide behind.

I don't care if he was a good man or not. This is American history and government property. No boundaries should get you shot. Will somebody stand up for this country and stop pandering?

It's all about false revisionist history. They are all over TR because of a speech he made in NY in 1886 (still rather early in his career and not far from his frontier fighting days dealing with vicious, cruel, murdering and torturing warriors to protect settlers) where he said "[I suppose I should be ashamed to say that I take the western view of the Indian.] I don't go so far as to think that the only good Indian is the dead Indian, but I believe nine out of every ten are, and I shouldn't like to inquire too closely into the case of the tenth."
They take it totally out of context by conveniently leaving out the first sentence (marked in brackets). Then they use the rest of the statement (or worse, just the part that says "the only good Indian is a dead Indian" which was used in a Hollywood movie) to equate him with Hitler and genocide. They don't take into account he had done a lot for Indians after he got involved with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and later as President. It makes me sick what these leftists are doing to history.
Now I am resesrching the claims about Columbus that he was a "greedy, murdering and raping slave trader". I found a lot of information that indicates he has been falsely maligned and people (with agendas) misquoted scholars like Lewis Hanke and Bartolome de las Casas, used documents where the original was missing and made other false interpretations to come to the false conclusions.
One scholar who wasn't trying to clear his name was surprised to find that she may have actually done so. It was only her intention to uncover truth. Her name is Carol Delaney and she wrote "Columbus and the Quest for Jerusalem". I am just starting it now after pouring over the Admirals diaries and various letters. She has excellent credentials but, unfortunately, she gets no notice by anyone and even her publisher does nothing to promote her because it goes against the leftist agenda to destroy everything good.

Teddy Roosevelt was a socialist, a racist, and a warmonger. The original RINO. He certainly does not belong on Mount Rushmore. A horrible, horrible man whose ego resulted in victory for the #3 most evil President ever - Woodrow Wilson.
