Here’s a key question for the Rev. Derrick DeWitt, director of the Maryland Baptist Aged Home in West Baltimore, a 100-year-old nursing facility that has had no coronavirus infections: What was the moment you realized the threat was real and that you had to take action to protect your residents and staff?
I dare not put words in a Baptist minister’s mouth, but it sounds like he listened to what the President of the United States had to say, then decided just the opposite would be true.
Trump, of course, has lied or made misleading statements thousands of times. So, by the fourth February since his inauguration, none but the Trumpiest

Trump bashing Baltimore Sun. It's in West Baltimore, nothing has changed. The only difference with this nursing home is they did not have Cuomo telling them they had to take sick COVID19 patients.

Sorry, but I don’t see any point in continuing to read an article when a couple of sentences in it says, “Trump, of course, has lied...”

My mother's nursing home in Kissimmee, FL, has had zero COVID-19 infections as well. They locked down in early March, with no one but employees allowed in or out, and are just starting to barely open up for visitors. When I say barely, I mean everyone wears a mask with the visitors sitting outside the main entrance with the resident sitting inside, 6 feet apart.

What does President Trump have to do with it? It’s good the residents did well but Trump’s directives were following the recommendations of medical experts. This would have been an interesting article if it wasn’t trying to bash President Trump.

The editorializing about Trump is unobjective journalism at its best. As for the nursing home, it’s no way to live, in my opinion, being locked down and isolated from family and other visitors.

As noted, the primary purpose of the article is to bash Trump.
Why is the author amazed at the results? From day one and from common sense, the elderly are ALWAYS at higher risk from disease. They are more likely to get it and more likely to do poorly once they are infected. The rest of the steps are common sense immunology; reduce contacts, continual cleaning, temperature checks and questions about contact activities. masks and gloves, etc. ANY responsible nursing home should have followed these procedures. They should follow similar procedures during a bad annual influenza period for the same reasons, the vulnerability of their residents. There is an increased risk for COVID because there is no vaccine.
There was no orders or information needed from the federal or state governments. There were no unusual or extraordinary procedures required, just awareness, intent, and attention to the details that mattered.
The problem is, many nursing homes are not well managed and are sloppy about procedures and care. This was worsened in some states by state government orders that returned COVID infected patients to nursing homes; which was insane.

Those left-wingers can't help themselves can they? Always lying about President Trump. Hitler used these tactics when he was trying to gain power. Beware.

The current crop of “journalists” learned their technique from 0bama whose every failure was Bush’s fault. Now, even Cuomo’s failures are Trump’s fault.
I have dear friends who live in an assisted living facility here in Charleston and they have not had a single case there either. Visitors are still not allowed inside the building, but the residents are free to come and go as they please. We have stood in front of the entrance and hugged each other while NOT wearing masks and the facility is still CV19 free.

He says, "I dare not put words in a Baptist minister’s mouth" then goes on to put words in the Baptist minister's mouth.
The nursing home director isn't quoted ONE PEEP against President Trump.
Lying hack journo."Cancelled," as they say.

The one sentence “PRESIDENT Trump lies”. Tells you why this article was written. There are many senior living facilities that have not had one case of the Wuhan virus
I truly think that every time PRESIDENT Trump introduced Drs. Brixi or Facuie the word Democrat should have been used.
I.e. “Democrat Dr Faucie will now talk about the virus.”

Buried far down in the story, well past the interviewer's Trump bashing, we get this nugget:
“We didn’t wait for guidance from the Centers for Disease Control or from the Maryland Department of Health or from Baltimore City. . . We did what we thought was prudent at the very beginning of the pandemic.”

i have arbitrated in nursing homes, in all sectors - for profit, for non profit, for religious non profit, and for government run homes.
One of the problems in all sectors is related to surprisingly low pay for non-professional staff. Health care unions have not done a good job, for the most part, in negotiating salaries for non professionals.
the non-professionals, as a matter of survival, sometimes work for different nursing homes, putting in double shifts, while each nursing home avoids paying time and one half for overtime, as required by the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Working in two different facilities increases the likelihood of cross contamination, and spreading the Kung flu from nursing home to nursing home...
When the threat of Kung Flu is diminished, I believe the story will;be told as I outlined it above.

Dan Rodricks has been writing leftists dribble for decades for the Baltimore rag. He's all for the government control of every life from cradle to grave. It always amazes me that leftists can't see that everything they believe in never works no matter how many times or ways it's tried. There appears to be no critical thinking of any kind with this mind set.
