Amazon is once again in hot water after its Chicago warehouse offered workers chicken and waffles to celebrate Juneteenth–the day the slaves were freed. “We stand in solidarity honoring the black community by supporting local black businesses. We are happy to share an authentic meal crafted by Chicago’s Chicken + Waffles June 19th,” a sign read, which was posted n the DCH1 Amazonians United Facebook Page the group.(Snip) “As people throughout the world are rising up against cops, corporations and this anti-Black capitalist system we live under, Amazon mocks us with this racist form of ‘celebration.’ “So much for supporting your Black/African

Billions of chickens are fried and comsumed by Americans of every color. I don't prefer waffles with my chicken (mashed potatoes and gravy is my preference) but it is a combo that is enjoyed by many. It's not like they served chitterlings and mustard greens and cornbread. Lighten up people. Stop making a problem where there isn't one. Insanity at it's ugliest.

Spent years in Galveston, thru many Juneteenth days. The blacks I worked with said they celebrated the day with a meal that paid homage to 1863 slaves. What was in that meal? Chicken, okra, as well as watermelon - yes, watermelon... it was what a freed slave would have considered a feast (not far from Galveston is Hempstead ,Tx which considers itself the Watermelon capital of the world. Thus, it made sense to me as well as a modernized contribution of Red Pop to reflect blood spilled to obtain freedom. My northern relatives thot this appalling and racist—my black friends said my democrat relatives were racists for deciding what blacks could & couldn't eat.. then they went to the gun range and did some cathartic target practicing!

the thing about dealing with bullies is that there is no way to appease them.
Any attempt at appeasement simply causes them to be offended by the effort, and an escalation in their demands, which never stops increasing.
I suspect this juneteenth celebration will go the way of kwanzaa, unless government panderers make it a holiday. our insiupid little governor, Wolf, of Pa., just made it a state holiday.. Remember that manufactured holiday? and how it dominated local news?
It died a silent death about a year and a half ago, because it was ignored by the majority..

Chicken and waffles is a southern dish enjoyed by all races. When I was a teen during the civil rights movement, we called dishes like that soul food and they were celebrated as part of black culture.

Amazon and the rest of the businesses need to get back to doing business, and get out of politics. The businesses should have discovered by now that there is no winning whatever they do.

Jeff Bezos must GO, right now. Strip this blatant RACIST of his job, his stock in Amazon, his ownership of the WaPo, and BURN him in effigy wherever there is an Amazon "Fulfillment Center", and THEN burn those "Fulfillment Centers" to the ground. It's the only just thing to do. NO JUSTICE, NO AMAZON, NO BEZOS!

The slaves were NOT freed on Juneteenth!! It is only the day Texas slaves were told of the Emancipation Proclamation.
Border ststes had slaves until the 13th Amendment was ratified n Dec 1865.
Can the news media get anything right?

I was born and raised in the north, but have lived in the south for about half my life. I knew nothing about chicken and waffles as a combination until seeing it on the menu in a southern home cooking restaurant. I ordered some and have seen black, white, hispanic, people with foreign accents, etc. all eating and enjoying the combination. Lots of butter and some jelly or syrup on it will likely peg your cholesterol meter, but it is exceedingly delicious. It is only racist if everything and anything is racist.

I was born and raised in Texas and have never seen anyone eat this waffles and chicken, nor I have ever heard anyone mention eating it. I have never seen it on a menu either.

Chicken and Waffle is not a "southern" dish. It is a dish created in New Orleans in the 1920's . It came about because the jazz musicians that had played in the clubs got off about 2 to three in the morning and were hungry and wanted to eat before going home. At that time of the morning it was hard to decide between breakfast and dinner, so the combined the two.

I lived in Virginia and Florida for many years, and have spent a lot of time in Ga and SC visiting relatives...never heard of chicken and waffles. Sounds like some Yankee idea of what southerners eat.

The point is that the Chicken and Waffles Restaurant that Amazon had catering this lunch is a Famous Black owned Restaurant that serves a dish that is traditional in the Black Community in the South and in many cities in the North. There is nothing racist about this. BLM hates capitalism period. They will not stop until Amaxon is no more and the country is no longer Capitalist. Take a look at this webpage from the restaurant and see that the owners are Black and have a very successful business. https://chicagoschickenandwaffles.com/photos/

I checked with several friends and relatives from Tennessee, Mississippi and Ga....nobody ever heard of chicken and waffles in the REAL South in the 50s and 60s when we were growi g up there.
Fried chicken, heck yes. Waffles is Yankee food, pancakes are all we had in the south until the late 60s...and they were a bit of a breakfast novelty after that.
Something made up, probably in NYC.
