Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot blasted an unnamed city council member for “illegally” recording a phone call between the mayor and a number of the city’s aldermen over ongoing riots and unrest that destroyed hundreds of Chicago businesses and left some of the city’s wards helpless. The mayor and Alderman Raymond Lopez, who represents areas on the city’s south and near west sides, got into a profane exchange of words on the call, with Lopez accusing Lightfoot of using police resources to protect downtown stores from looting while leaving poorer and residential neighborhoods to fend for themselves, according to local media. “It’s not something you ignore.

With Article 14, the so-called "two-party consent" law. Illinois made it illegal to use an "eavesdropping device" to overhear or record a phone call or conversation without the consent of all parties to the conversation so, just as the State of California arrested David Daleiden for illegally recording all the horrible things Planned Parenthood was doing, the State of Illinois needs to arrest Alderman Raymond Lopez for his crime.

I listened to the whole stinking pile of obscenity laden nonsense. Not one speaker expressed any interest in supporting black lives matter: they were all bitchin' about the chaotic events that they had encouraged publicly.

Mayor Lori (with an I) Lighweight has been busted. She has not a clue what's going on in HER somewhat black ghettos. She has not a clue how many black kids are shot and killed EVERY weekend in her black ghettos. She has not a clue that white folks all over the USA are seeing weekly how much she thinks black lives matter.
She is VERY well aware that if you took her weekend shooting and death toll and put it in a suburban school the "press" would not shut u[p for 3 weeks and she's really happy about that quiet.
If Black Lives Matter ….
When a 14 year old black kid is shot to death in your 'hood and the homicide cops come around asking if you saw anything ….
Don't know nuffing, snitches gets stitches, 5 - 0 on da street, no no po po doesn't work.

With all of these official city, county, state and other meetings being held remotely, it should be expected that EVERY phone call is taped so people can see what's being discussed.
And, if you're going to use any government issued phone, WIFI, computer, tablet, or system, then they should also be recorded.

Clean up your language, Lori, and it won't be a problem. PS--all meetings should be open.

why are not these discussions about official city business being recorded and made available to the public? thought that was what sunshine laws were meant to address. would appreciate why
these rules do not apply to this conversation.

Illinois is a two party consent state, but it does allow recording in public places, however requires consent where there is a reasonable expectation of privacy.
If this was a meeting of the city council then it most certainly was a public meeting. And even if not, I don’t see how anyone on a conference call with almost 75 people can have a “reasonable expectation of privacy.”

Even the "meeting" was by telephone, wouldn't it be considered a public meeting and fall under some type of rules that make it open to the public, thus taping it is ok?
