Student protesters at the University of Missouri have circulated a petition that calls on Mizzou officials to remove a “racist” Thomas Jefferson statue from campus grounds.According to a report by Campus Reform, student protesters at the University of Missouri are calling for the removal of a Thomas Jefferson statue from campus on the grounds that it is “racist.”A petition that has been signed by over 3,000 members of the community argues that the Jefferson statue has “no place” on the Mizzou campus. In the petition, the students cite Jefferson’s ownership of more than 600 slaves as a justification for removal of the statue.

"Students Demand" - try telling them 'no', in no uncertain terms and if some of them throw a tantrum, expel them. That might just be the very first time they ever heard the word 'no'. It will be good for them.

The answer is NO. Stand firm. Toss out the students who get too strident.
They are STUDENTS, they are NOT in charge.

Easy solution. Claim it is named for George Jefferson and we'll be "Movin On Up." Next up George Washington to be renamed George Floyd.

How come students dont demand that the name of Senator Robert Byrd be taken off any street, building, bridge or highway that has the Grand POOba;s name on it.
I just so happen to like that statue. Leave it alone. My opinion also counts.

The student protesters are riding a one-trick pony and unfairly judging Jefferson's entire life by today's racial standards.
What is needed and constructive is an open, honest debate about race in America today. Instead of using the past as an excuse, Americans should be focused on the future and how to make it better. Anger and resentment needs to be worked through and put aside if progress is to be made.
An emphasis on taking personal responsibility is necessary. Decades of government attempts to address problems of race have only exacerbated those problems. It is YOUR responsibility to build a future for you and your children, NOT the government's responsibility.
It will take some time and a lot of personal effort, but it will work just as it did for many groups who were previously subject to discrimination such as Chinese, Jews, Irish and Italians. They all managed to work through it and move on.

Someone needs to remind Mizzou students that they can no longer handle nickels, quarters or 1 or 20 dollar bills since they contain the image of slaveholders.

Dear Demanding,
Thomas Jefferson was born into a world where a slave could never be free. He authored the first legislation to make it legally possible for an African American to become free. It failed to pass until he became Governor of VA and personally signed it into law. He educated what slaves he could and feed them when they could support themselves. That is the change he made in the world he was born into. As soon as one of you make a greater change to your world we will put your statue next to his.

One remark is correct, Thomas Jefferson has no place on their campus. A man that intelligent and honorable would be justified in turning up his nose at what those morons are doing to the great country that he helped to found. Somebody please put up George Floyd statues in all of their places, he is the new role model, criminal, drug addict and low IQ thief. Might as well put a halo on his head and pin a few medals on his chest while they are at it.

#11, that "open and honest" debate about race will never happen for obvious reasons. Those reasons created Affirmative Action, college admissions "special" scores and the diversity laws that plague government and private business all across the country.

President Thomas Jefferson had a family with Sally Hemmings. In fact, they had 6 children together. What is that called? Nowadays, it would be said he had no racial bias. Back then it was a different time in the history. Young students should educate themselves and learn the facts before they go on a rampant spree of hate and destruction. They should take a good look at the fanatics around them, especially their professors, and question their motives.

I'd be curious to know whose statue these fine scholars from the University of Missouri would put in place of Thomas Jefferson. Have any of these kids ever taken an American History class?
I tell anyone who talks to me about "peaceful" protests to look for videos of the war zones that used to be St. Louis, Missouri or Minneapolis, Minnesota.

I'm thinking that if it were not for Thomas Jefferson, the ground that 'Mizzou' stands on would still be part of......FRANCE.
Look around the world and see how well France's former colonies turned out... Algieria, Gambia, Chad, Mali, Togo, Sudan, Gabon, Tunisia, Niger, Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Haiti, Grenada, Nevis, Saint Croix, Dominica, Tobago, Mauritius, Syria, Lebanon.
I think Mizzou did better by becoming part of the USA.
The idiot students at Mizzou should be thankful.

"First they came for the Confederate monuments, but I said nothing because I am not from the South." That precedent established (thanks for nothing, Nikki Haley), coupled with any opposition to Black Sensitivities resulting in social exile if not loss of employment, we must take a knee to the rest. The communists promised in writing to do exactly this back in 1963, while also assuring us that they do not exist, adding furthermore that belief in conspiracies denotes crack-pottery, along the lines of how we were taught in school about the dangerously un-American activities of Sen. McCarthy, who exposed them.

"The Past is a foreign country."
We presume to judge its inhabitants without understanding their world. Worse yet, is to judge folks on one part of their life and ignore the rest. "The rest", as for President Jefferson, is a life of accomplishment and public service that these snot-nosed kids cannot even comprehend, much less live up to.

These aren't students. Students would have known that it was Thomas Jefferson that helped write the Constitution which gives them the right to protest without fear of being killed or sent to jail for doing so.

3. There were Black slave owners, too.

# 25 Rev. Martin Niemoller. Knowing one woman took prayer out of schools and changed this country forever, I weep knowing no one stands up to the ignorance in this country. We are talking about extortion and everybody rolls over. What will be their next demand? Reparations are making the rounds again.
A statue was taken down in Jacksonville too. Perhaps I gave DeSantis too much credit.
Remember, they aren't "statues". They are our ancestors and founders.
