After the recent riots which saw multiple large stores looted, some retailers are having second thoughts about remaining in certain cities. In Chicago, Mayor Lori Lightfoot has been talking to these retailers and asking them not to leave the city. Not only do these companies make it possible for residents to get the things they need, they pay tons of taxes which the city relies on. WBBM News reports:Mayor Lightfoot Pleads With Walmart, Other Retailers To Not Abandon Chicago Mayor Lightfoot said she’s hopeful major retailers will reopen the Chicago stores that were looted or otherwise damaged during protests surrounding George Floyd’s killing by police in Minnesota. But, she’s unsure

Needs to restock before the next Kwanzaa Looting Festival.

These large companies will milk the city/state for tax breaks and other benefits...and they'll stay. Just factor the looting, destruction and "shrinkage" in costs of doing business.

Neither Wal Mart, or any other business, owes Chicago anything. I don't see Lightfoot agreeing to pay for rebuilding the stores, restocking the shelves, or paying for lost revenue. Chicago wants them to stay, at their own expense? How long until the next riots over some organized outrage?
For business, happiness is Chicago in the rear-view mirror!

The stores should say "We stay if you leave." They won't, though. #4 is right, as is so often the case.

The predictable aftermath of the burn and loot festival. Time for evil corporations to step up and pay the bill. What possible motivation is there for any business to remain in Minneapolis? Once they replace the police with social workers all that’s left is to build a fence around the city and lock the gates.

If they are smart, they will leave.
If they stay, their business will be destroyed.
Just leave.
Minneapolis must be left to face the consequences of 60 years of Democratic rule. They have been in complete control. And they have stoutly defended the right of crooked cops to stay on the force.
Just go stew in your own juice.
With no Federal help.

Yes - - it's time to re-stock for the next riot.
What's the point of breaking through a glass display window - - if there's no stuff inside?

Walmart should stay only in return for concessions in taxes and other advantages. I'd bet Walmart already employs many minorities but maybe they can promise one extra shift manager will be black as their corporate contribution to negotiations.

Only companies large enough to be able to afford to waste millions on a virtue signaling store will stay. Any company that has to make a profit and survive on one or a few stores, or is just normally judging the business environment, will not rebuild, and even if not burned out, will be moving away as soon as they reasonably can.

Chicago has big, big union pensions to cover, no reform or givebacks plans, so this is gonna get serious soon. Homeowners might want to bail out now too, before their taxes go waaaay up (again) as their home values decline.

The answer is a very clear HELL NO!
Now, YOU deal with the lower tax revenues your COMMUNIST THUG Policies/Laws have created. We're MOVING to TEXAS!

All brick and mortar stores are evaluating their store locations. It looks like an easy decision to close Chicago stores and concentrate on more favorable locations.

As in the above article saying MN is going to see a mass exodus because their Government officials did nothing while businesses burned, the same is going to happen in Chicago. Lori Lightheaded didn't call in the Guard until a lot of the damage was done. So why in the world would businesses want to rebuild there? They won't and if they do, their insurance will be sky high! The chances in the Chicago Ghetto of this happening again are very high! So those Businesses will pick up and move to a more tax friendly state (most likely Republican)! Businesses like Walmart and Target probably won't reopen at all! It's not like this hasn't happened before to them! So Chicago, you can thank your Ditzy Mayor for what is left in the Ashes. You will have to live with it! Sorry!

The city will pay dearly to get these companies to rebuild their stores. If I owned a burned-out store, I wouldn't even return that witch's phone calls.

Two "anecdotes" from other cities: in Baltimore, people had begged CVS to build in their neighborhood because there was no place for the folks to get their prescriptions, and there were no groceries. The CVS fulfilled the promise. During the Freddie Gray riots the first building looted and burned was the CVS.
There was a $30million "low income housing" project in the works, in Minneapolis, as we know, and this building under construction was burned down.
There are evil people a-foot, and they stir up hatred and the keeping track of wrongs, and that destruction will somehow satisfy the lust for revenge and assuage the bitterness and the thirst for retribution for the sins of the past. So they burn everything to the ground. The good people still living there, they struggle with a despair and hopelessness that's hard to comprehend. Even if at first they thought they could change things, --so they stay-- eventually they get out... if they can.
Then the Democrats come around at election time, telling them that we Republicans/Conservatives don't care, are prejudiced, are racists, want to "keep them down." The cycle repeats.
Those brilliant people who have discovered the scam and the sham, and escape, they are added to the Basket of Deplorables with us.
What the Democrats have done and continue to do is evil.

Most of us have Walmart stock in our 401k.
They better give a thought to their investors!
We didn't intend to invest in a charity, or a social justice organization.
