Strand bookstore, vandalized amid

The Strand is taking a stand. “We’re not going to board up the windows,” said Nancy Bass Wyden, third-generation owner of the famed East Village bookstore. Its “18 miles of books” have been under lockdown since the pandemic began, but now a new threat to the 93-year-old business has emerged—looters and rioters marauding through the neighborhood.(Snip) Yet on Sunday night graffiti saying “F–k NYPD” and “NYPD SMD” was spray-painted on the Broadway and East 12th Street facade, which was designated a city landmark last summer. “We spent Monday morning cleaning it up,”

Comments:

"Nice pizza place ya got heah. Be a real shame if somethin' should happen to it in the night, capiche?" Different mob, same mentality. Bad move, though; by removing the Urban Art from their storefront, they side with the White Oppressors, the pain magnified by the fact that books denote White Privilege.

Arafat was in the same racket. He had billions in Manhattan real estate, if I’ve heard correctly. Blm could have a particularly sweet racket if they bought real estate for nothing after one of their riots and then moved their next riot to the next acquisition location.

BLM is no different from the Mob; it just wants to "wet its beak". I hope Ms. Wyden lets us know how that works for her. Give these terrorists an inch...... Appeasement never works. I'm afraid that before too long she'll be learning a very hard lesson. She has just proved to BLM that she can be pushed around. This will not end well for her bookstore.

Uh-oh….from the slightly wayback machine: The Strand Bookstore, a New York City icon that is home to 2.5 million books and 92 years of storefront history, was commemorated by the city and chosen as a historic city landmark this week. Nancy Bass Wyden, the store's third-generation owner, isn't taking it as a compliment. "Some people have congratulated me, and I said, 'No, this is no congratulations. This is a punishment,' " Bass Wyden tells NPR's Scott Simon. Bass Wyden feels that the designation is counterproductive. "We don't need the city to come in and just put red tape and bureaucracy and take control over decision-makings of the store. ... It's really no honor," Bass Wyden says. "We're already a landmark.” https://www.npr.org/2019/06/15/732755982/new-york-city-and-the-strand-bookstore-are-not-on-the-same-page

Translated: "I want to sell this to a developer at some point as the property is worth more than the bookstore and the books.” She doesn’t want City landmark control.

President Trump signed a batch of executive orders Friday designed to slash drug prices in an election year, including a long-awaited push to align the price of Medicare drugs with what other developed nations pay. He said it is unfair that Americans bear the cost of Big Pharma’s research-and-development costs through high prices while “socialist” countries enjoy lower prices, often due to government-mandated caps. “We are bearing the entire cost of all of this. They are bearing none,” he said. “I’ve been waiting for this day a long time.”(Snip) Another executive order would force middlemen to pass certain rebates to consumers,

Hillary Clinton’s weird and fiercely loyal troupe of admirers is determined to make you love her. They are so determined, in fact, that they will even rewrite the story of her life to make her seem more appealing. The online streaming service Hulu, for example, has optioned the rights to Curtis Sittenfeld’s Rodham, a work of “alternate history” fiction that imagines Hillary Clinton’s life without Bill Clinton. Sittenfeld’s book envisions a world in which an unmarried Hillary Rodham becomes successful and powerful enough to make a run at the White House, all without riding the coattails of her eminently more charismatic and politically savvier real-life husband.
