Amazon has opened a purpose-built permanent homeless shelter inside its downtown Seattle headquarters. The opening of the shelter, which has been three years in the making and will be operated by local nonprofit Mary's Place, comes as employees of the internet giant have been working from home amid the coronavirus outbreak. Built inside one of Amazon's office buildings in the Denny Regrade neighborhood, the eight-floor, 63,000-square-foot shelter is being kept separate from Amazon's offices through private entrances and acoustical isolation.(Snip) Under normal circumstances, the shelter is expected to be able to provide housing for more than 1,000 families a year.

Transform unused high-end office space into a massive tax deduction; you don’t become a billionaire by being stupid. Would decrease property taxes too by making the surrounding area less desirable. Works well for Amazon, but who pays for increased police costs and cleaning up the sidewalks when the “clients” trash the place, as they always do?

Amazon doesn't know it yet, but they just lost their headquarters. All for virtue signaling. Will it be safe for anyone that does come in to work? What do you do if you want to entertain customers? How are they going to handle all the drug addicts, alcoholics, and those that are mentally ill?

I predict this endeavor will be quietly abandoned within a year or two after Amazon regularly has to clean up and repair things after the "clients" trash them.

AN ASIDE: I don't see any accomodation in that rest room for small children to reach the sinks. Think about it. Have your EVER seen such a thing in any public rest room? After watching a grandma trying to help her small grandchild wash her hands for the required singing of the Alphabet song, which ended up with the kid sitting on the sink table (not meant for the weight) and water going everywhere, I asked our facilities people about getting stepstools for the kids. That ended up involving the Safety office and OHSA standards. (Size of stools, kids falling off, people tripping over them, stools getting in the way of wheelchairs.) We did find a device that attaches under the sink table and is folded up under there. I can be pulled down when needed and pushed back under and up when not; step size meets OHSA standards. Once we open back up from the quarantine, I plan to get them installed in our restrooms. Why don't we see more of these? We have scads of small children using public rest rooms and now handwashing is now pretty much required. Added benefit, they would be advantageous for Little People, too.

As a plumbing contractor I see the need for children's sinks and toilets as well as separate facilities for each of the Heinz 57 varieties of LGBTQWERTY groups. I need a new boat and it is deeply humiliating to find myself driving last year's Ferrari.

Don't cry yet. Amazon has put in for reparations for huge mega corporations who ''help the homeless'' but only for cash.

These people are not homeless, they are self-prideless. They have no self-worth or self-esteem. Traits in common with alcoholics and drug addicts. Welcome home.

Good luck with that, I predict that this will not turn out well for Amazon. But, it is Bezos' money and he is welcomed to spend it in any way he chooses. Perhaps he will learn a lesson.

Amazon was seriously considering moving out of Seattle before the virus due to astronomically high taxes. This gives Bezos an excuse to write the HQ building off, receive a huge tax deduction and build a new HQ in a "less cool" place. It shifts responsibility for the occupying vermin to the city, He also found, thanks to AOC, that New York City was not that place. Maybe he can use the old Washington Post building once that rag folds completely.

Because CRRC benefits from financial support from the Chinese Communist Party, the company often can significantly underbid competitors, said Mr. Olson. “They are moving into this market. Today, the vintage champagne has gone flat, the bells have long stopped ringing, and the couple have turned their backs on Britain, opting to live among the shallow royalty of Hollywood rather than the real thing. The Sussexes' long goodbye has cost the House of Windsor much in damaged reputation. But that is nothing compared to the financial cost to the British public.

A Philadelphia elections judge and Democratic Party official pleaded guilty Thursday to stuffing ballot boxes in favor of Democratic candidates in elections in 2014, 2015 and 2016, while collecting thousands of dollars in cash to make the changes. Prosecutors hinted at an even broader conspiracy by an unnamed “political consultant” who charged his clients “consulting fees” then used some of the money to pay off multiple Election Board officials. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Philadelphia won Thursday’s guilty plea from Domenick J. DeMuro, who served as a judge of elections, responsible for overseeing a polling place during voting. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now says the coronavirus “does not spread easily” through touching surfaces or objects. In early March, the federal health agency was warning that it “may be possible” to pass on the virus from contaminated surfaces, according to Fox News.
