The nation’s blue state governors seem to be far more enthusiastic about lockdowns than their red state counterparts, perhaps because they recognize that the small businesses being driven toward extinction are a key component of the GOP base. But if their motives are so ruthless, perhaps they need to reckon with the damage being done to the key propaganda organs of the left: progressive media, higher education, and government schools.
Waves of layoffs already have hit such progressive stalwarts as Vice, Quartz, Buzzfeed, and Conde Nast. And now The Atlantic, controlled by Steve Jobs’s widow and previously recruiting highly paid talent, is joining the layoff crowd. (In fairness, conservative media, including

Yes, a good read and the excerpt from the Victory Girls blog covers all the bases IMO. The demise of the four-year university is key to fixing K-12. Public, private, or home schools should not be focused on being feeder schools for a decrepit university system. They should prepare students for post-graduates to function in the job market, further vocational training, or university depending on their needs. IOW, make them productive citizens. Change or get rid of the bloated universities, and let that trickle down to change secondary education.

In Texas, public schools pre-college are funded by real estate taxes. I wonder if this will require a tax increase or allow a decrease. Of course real estate values may fall.
Colleges certainly own a lot of real estate. That’s a lot of empty buildings.
But a lot of tuition Would go back in the parents’ hands perhaps. Perhaps the brick and mortar university days are over. I guess that means the kids live at home. That ain’t gonna happen.

From the victory girls blog -
some are just going to opt to homeschool next fall to avoid the chaos
I am one of those essential workers who is expected to come to work. While I consider that to be both a privilege and a blessing I'm also finding it very frustrating that upper management has become so frightened that their tedious response borders on bullying. It is becoming more and more uncomfortable to come to work.
I can't imagine any government-controlled institution opening up without extreme chaos. We have choices. This is not likely to work well for the public schools.

This makes me so happy!!!!!!!!! Especially the part about the home schooling trend. Almost nothing would please me more than to see an end to government run schools. We have to keep these tyrants out of office though, they will try to outlaw home schooling. They've tried before, I guarantee you that if they feel threatened, they will try harder.

I also see a need for more private tutors in the future. One that would come to your home and teach your child in person perhaps with the help of online programs. Too expensive for a lot of families but there would be many who could afford $20 or $25 per hour for a "traveling teacher" and would be a good way for retired or former teachers to make extra money. One would want to choose wisely...you don't want to hire a flaming lefty or a pedophile but I think we will see more of these teacher entrepreneurs starting this fall.

That should send a chill down your spine if you're a conservative. What's next? Re-education camps?
Bill Ayers, around 1970, said 25 million Americans would need to be killed off. That'd be around 40 million with today's population.

It's a start. For people too brainwashed to understand going into massive debt for a degree you might not use, is a good way to have a lifelong anchor of debt. Even if you think you need it to be in a profession, you will likely find you don't really enjoy that job you thought you knew or that the job isn't there or it has a foreign national with green card doing it or the amount of openings aren't there.
For the rest of the American educational system, until you stop insisting that mainstreaming problem kids, ill prepared kids or disruptive kids, isn't going to severely curtail the education of normal kids, they will suffer. A teacher can't teach and the kids can't participate or enjoy learning is there is constant disruption or tutoring going on in their classes. It is PC insanity to think otherwise. The parents of the kids who should not be in a normal classroom won't like it, too bad. They are the minority and in this case the minority can not be allowed to set the pace of learning or to stop learning all together to cater to their problems.
