State regulators on Wednesday suspended the license of a 77-year-old Michigan barber who insisted on cutting hair despite an order to stay closed during the coronavirus pandemic. Karl Manke has pledged to keep his shop open “until Jesus comes.” A judge declined the state's request to shut down his shop Monday without first holding a hearing. Regulators took a different path by suspending his barber license and his shop license. “It is paramount that we take action to protect the public and do our part to help save lives,” Attorney General Dana Nessel said. (snip)“It’s pure retribution. It’s abuse of power: How dare you stand up to me?”

I fully expect Manke to defy the tyrant, get arrested, and go to trial, hopefully in front of a jury in his hometown. If he's lucky he will get convicted and jailed but get the verdict quickly reversed on appeal. Then I expect Manke to grin broadly for the cameras and flash the tyrant a double bird as he walks back to his shop and his waiting customers.
(Of course, on the flip side, if she does lose, the tyrant Wittmer will most likely take out a contract on him with her Mafia buddies in Detroit.)

My dad was a barber. He’s been gone for 33 years so indulge me here please. Long hair was becoming the fashion for young men. If a father brought his son in, he’d cut it to the fathers wishes. If a young man came in alone, he’d just do a trim and leave it long. He said if a dad can’t make time for his kid, the kid was his customer. I like to think he’d be like this barber during these times.

Lost in all of the executive orders by mayors and governors stripping away personal liberty and in some cases property has been any notion of 14th Amendment Due Process, Equal Protection and Privileges and Immunities. Also lost have been administrative findings based upon a record of evidence, or a balancing of hardships, or cost-benefit analyses, or professional vetting or the opportunity of affected parties to be heard. "Do it or else" has become the familiar imperious announcement. I have spent my entire career in the law and have never seen or thought I would see anything like it.

Licensing departments and ccupational licences are just another form of taxation. I'm afraid that I would be cutting hair for free in the privacy of my own home and if someone wanted to make a donation (wink, wink) to healthcare for my dog, no taxes or licensing fees would go to any government entity.

Whitmer and Nessel are awful people. It disgusts me to no end the way they have shoved their crap down our throats here in Michigan. It's pathetic. I hope this gentleman gets his business license back. I can't see this sitting well with most Michigan voters.

Simple solution. Don't charge for a haircut, do it for free. Don't need a license to do that or millions of mom's and dad's would be in jail for cutting their kid's hair. Of course, if a patron left a 'tip' that would be up to that person and the GD 'rat governor can't do nothing about that.

Problem is #2, it’s hard to get a speedy trial (jury or bench) in many states these days thanks to “social distancing” and court closures. How amazingly convenient.

How is any of Gov actions legal without due process? Or since emergency powers were not given past April 30- how is this legal? And..
He won in court to stay open.. the petty, evil Gov Witchmer wanted to exert perceived power..

The only need to license barbers and many other professions is only to tax them. Much of government is only tyranny.

“When you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing –
When you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors –
When you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you –
When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice –
You may know that your society is doomed.”

It's amazing the laws the Democrats will not enforce. None on immigration, illegal voting, few on non-violent crimes, practically zero on crimes committed by juveniles, nothing on vagrants and trespassing-----but a 77 year old cutting hair brings a clamp down. For Republicans, the Democrats send in SWAT in early morning hours for non-crimes.

If the people of Michigan don't vote this POS out of office, they haven't a leg to stand on. And I'm sick of hearing Detroit and Ann Arbor are the ones who vote them in. Detroit has a large minority population and they have never been noted for a large turnout. Unless a brotha is running. So as far as I'm concerned, that excuse is lame and overdone. I believe it is more due to apathy on the part of voters in general. Too much trouble to get out and vote, you know?

Imagine if he goes back to work, the governor has him put in jail and he contracts coronavirus (and even dies from it). I pray that doesn't happen, but if she jails him it'll show what a tyrant he is and I can't imagine a court jailing him at his age. So he'll be free to be interviewed and become famous - something I don't think he sought out. I wish him luck. Does he have a gofundme page?

The court ruled in his favor...is she overriding the court? The legislature voted to end her state of emergency. One thing for sure these democratic governors are not gaining any voters. Vote republican in November!
