It's Time for Trump to Come Home to His Voters

Original Article

Historians recognize some U.S. presidential elections as realignment elections — elections that fundamentally alter and reconfigure the various voting constituencies of our major political parties. The 2016 presidential election was one such realignment election. The preexisting blue-red partisan split was, at its core, deeply artificial: Both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party had merely been operating along slightly different points within a broader mutually shared neoliberal paradigm.

Comments:

The author goes on to discuss the disconnect between President Trump's rhetoric vs. his administration's policy on the lockdown. He makes a good point.

I found this rather cheeky: FTA: "The intellectual disconnect is astonishing. On Twitter and in press conferences, Trump sympathizes with the plight of average Americans ... But in policy, he oversees a White House that oftentimes seems direly pessimistic about beginning to reopen America. As with so many other issues since his election, the president’s correct instincts are trampled upon by the advisors to whom he all-too-willingly delegates authority." Who are these "pundits" to think their armchair presidential advice is worth a hill of beans? I doubt Mr. Hammer could have withstood the first three months of Trump's presidency, yet he pontificates as to which actions the President should take. We're knee deep in swamp alligators and I trust our Swamp Guide that has been protecting us and battling for us, very successfully, for four years. We don't know what the President knows. I trust Trump. I trust his intellect, knowledge and, most of all, his instincts. Just because its a bumpy ride doesn't mean the road isn't going where we want. MAGA:KAG - We Will Win!

As far as I'm concerned, Trump has always been home with his voters. I trust his instincts to open up, if that is what he wants. But I believe he has said this is up to the individual states, not the feds. Of course, the dems want to place the blame on him, even as they refuse to reopen.

Across California on May 1, tens of thousands protested in defiance of statewide lockdown orders. In Sacramento, the west lawn of the state capitol building was filled with protesters, with thousands more marching along the sidewalk surrounding the capitol grounds. Additional thousands driving their cars and honking their horns created three hours of total gridlock on the streets that loop around the capitol. Noteworthy protests have taken place in San Diego, Encinitas, Laguna Beach, Huntington Beach, Paso Robles, Santa Rosa, and even tiny Lakeport on the shores of Clear Lake. There is no end in sight.

In a livestreamed update on the Golden State’s response to COVID-19 this afternoon, California Governor Gavin Newsom threw down the gauntlet to sun-worshippers in his state, who he was disappointed appeared to be enjoying life over the weekend. That’s something that just can’t stand, man! Newsom began his speech with a smile, by thanking “the 40 million” Californians who “over the course of the last number of weeks have not only bent the curve….but stabilized it.” But the governor’s smile only lasted about 24 seconds, when he said this:

Gavin Newsom, the lily white, urbane, coiffed scion of San Francisco’s posh royalty, is California’s highest-ranking Democrat. He presides over a party that has taken progressive ideals beyond absurdity to the brink of tyranny, a socialist party that openly disparages whiteness and wealth. One would think that the party of Gavin Newsom is bent on destroying everything Gavin Newsom represents. So what’s going on?

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) called on Attorney General William Barr to resign over the Department of Justice’s decision to drop its criminal case against retired Army lieutenant general Michael Flynn on Thursday. “William Barr is not the President’s lawyer – he is the country’s lawyer. His political interference is blatantly corrupt and he should resign,” Warren wrote on Twitter. (Tweet) Earlier Thursday, the DOJ moved to dismiss its case against Flynn, who pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI about his communications with top Russian diplomat Sergey Kislyak following President Donald Trump’s election in 2016.

Information released in the Justice Department’s motion to dismiss the case it brought against Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn confirms the significance of a January 5, 2017, meeting at the Obama White House. It was at this meeting that Obama gave guidance to key officials who would be tasked with protecting his administration’s utilization of secretly funded Clinton campaign research, which alleged Trump was involved in a treasonous plot to collude with Russia, from being discovered or stopped by the incoming administration. (Snip) Shortly thereafter, high-level operatives began intensely leaking selective information supporting a supposed Russia-Trump conspiracy theory, the incoming National Security Advisor was ambushed, and the incoming Attorney General

Yale epidemiologist and legal scholar Gregg Gonsalves suggested the Trump administration may in fact be guilty of genocide for pushing for the reopening of America because COVID-19 has disproportionately affected minority populations. According to The College Fix, Gonsalves launched a series of tweets on Wednesday saying the Trump administration’s response to the pandemic is “close to genocide,” without citing any particular evidence to support his bizarre claim.

The daily and hourly flood of critical information about the COVID-19 crisis has made communicating with immigrant communities in Minnesota a challenging and frustrating task, leaving some non-English speakers struggling to access public health and financial resources. (snip) Yang, whose family arrived in St. Paul from a refugee camp in Thailand in 1979, said the current crisis reminds him of those times. "It brings back vivid memories of the refugee camp where you're shut down. Your circle – you're supposed to stay in the camp. You're not supposed to leave," Yang said.

On Friday, Ted Cruz flew to Dallas for a haircut. He hadn’t been looking particularly shaggy, but as hair salons have become the latest front in the culture war, Cruz—never one to miss an opportunity to declare which side he’s on—invited photographers to join him before he donned a face mask and a leopard-print smock for his visit to Salon à la Mode. The Dallas salon has become pivotal in the stay-at-home-order debates after its owner, Shelley Luther, was arrested on Tuesday and sentenced to seven days in jail on a contempt of court charge. That stemmed from her refusal to apologize and close down her store until the second phase

reck·on·ing (noun) - the avenging or punishing of past mistakes or misdeeds. When one writes a regular opinion column, one is often faced with multiple major stories in the news that deserve further analysis and context that inspire thought and even passion from one's readers. Today, those of us in this noble trade are faced with a serious quandary: Where to begin?- Do we celebrate the partial justice delivered to American patriot Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn as the Justice Department properly withdrew criminal charges against him?- Do we focus on the nefarious actions of the Comey FBI and Lynch Justice Department

Abraham Lincoln is frequently credited with the following aphorism: “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” These words may well have been misattributed to the Great Emancipator, but their wisdom is difficult to dispute. Indeed, during the past two months, the nation’s Democratic governors have clearly demonstrated that the temporary possession of emergency powers can unmask the hidden tyrant in even the most unremarkable politician. Virtually all have overreached their legitimate mandates, and few show any inclination to relinquish their newfound authority. This has not only produced widespread protests but has also led to dozens of constitutional lawsuits.

It's one of the biggest lies in leftist media and insider Washington politics: President Obama left the White House after eight years without a single scandal. "We didn't have a scandal that embarrassed us," Obama said during a private event in 2018, which was then repeated by his adoring allies. This is blatantly untrue and new information about the FBI's unsubstantiated criminal investigation into General Michael Flynn proves Obama was engaged in scandalous abuses of power right up until the moment he left the presidency.

Former President Barack Obama on Friday said that the Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus pandemic has been an “absolute chaotic disaster” and blamed it on a “selfish” and “tribal” mindset that has become operationalized in government. “This election that’s coming up on every level is so important because what we’re going to be battling is not just a particular individual or a political party. What we’re fighting against is these long-term trends in which being selfish, being tribal, being divided, and seeing others as an enemy — that has become a stronger impulse in American life,” he said.

J.C. Penney Co is preparing to file for bankruptcy protection as soon as next week with plans to permanently close about a quarter of its roughly 850 stores, becoming the latest major U.S. retailer to succumb to fallout from the coronavirus outbreak, according to people familiar with the matter. A bankruptcy filing would cap a long decline for the iconic 118-year-old department store chain, which struggled with a nearly $4-billion debt load and competition from e-commerce firms even before the pandemic's onset. The Plano, Texas-based company, which employs nearly 85,000 people,

The staffing includes new senior advisers with a focus on the virtual side of campaigning, all coming from former competitors-turned-endorsers' campaigns.
